I think this whole thing is disgusting. I am an Obama fan, and never had any intentions of voting for a Republican, McCain or otherwise, but I think this sort of thing stinks and the NYT is a scum paper for starting it.
The issue that he is having with his campaign funds is relevant and newsworthy, this tripe isn''t.
If I was on the fence about who to vote for in November and this story was out sliming up the airways, that would certainly push me in McCain''s direction. Whoever is responsible for the story is as big of a slimeball as Karl Rove, and that is saying a lot.

The NYT has no motive to smear McCain....
--------------------------

This is a load. The NYT is in failure mode, both in terms of prestige and finances. They would say anything to sell a few extra papers.

I don''t think the story will hurt McCain one way or another. The fact is he is kind of a grumpy old man who probably doesn''t have much of a future. The NYT has only damaged itself... and badly.

It seems that it is improper to remind American voters of another Republican candidates'' indiscretions, but it is OK for the followers of that candidate to accuse another of nonexistent religious affiliations...

The theory about the NYT smearing McCain doesn''t hold - mainly, due to motive. The NYT has no motive to smear McCain now.

First of all, since McCain has the nomination pretty much wrapped up, this story will do little to derail him. Why "waste" this story now? The NYT would use it in October for the election if they truely wanted to smear him.

Second, since this story *might* affect the primaries, it''s unlikely that the NYT would trash moderate McCain and open the door for conservative Huckabee.

I guess when Nancy Reagan was preaching, "Just Say No", Obama was saying I need some Blow...

Is your lack of educated or informed responses due to past drug use?

Sleaze and smear? These words were taken right from Obama''s first book. These were his words. Nothing is made up. I think its an insult to other teens of color that he stated he had to do drugs just to get through the day.

If there was a secret radical Muslim in the white house as president what would He CHANGE? Would He CHANGE the way to make it easy for terrorists to get into this country to over throw this country? Would He CHANGE the laws for any of His kind? Would He hang out with those who supported tyranny? Would He impose martial law? Could He start unjust wars for His hidden ideology? Could His decisions CHANGE the course for America? Would He CHANGE your civil liberties? Last of all would He CHANGE your right to vote? Believe me when I say there are no one with hidden agenda%u2019s in this world! If there was a secret radical Muslim in the white house as president what would He CHANGE?

Obama''''s First Book, "Dreams From My Father" (1995), before entering politics, that he had used marijuana and cocaine ("maybe a little blow"). He said he had not tried heroin because he did not like the pusher who was trying to sell it to him.

Not a felony addict as we are unaware how often his use was. Possessing the drug just once was the Felony. So your quote ,"We were always playing on the white man''''s court . . . by the white man''''s rules," he writes. "If the principal, or the coach, or a teacher . . . wanted to spit in your face, he could, because he had the power and you didn''''t. . . . The only thing you could choose was withdrawal into a smaller and smaller coil of rage." The anger directed at white people in general is very evident. Are these demons still embedded in his soul since he felt that he had to write them down?

i''ll believe the story when they show proof, not just hearsay. i''ll also believe that the NYT is balanced when we see a similar story about clinton or obama.

Let freedom ring for our nation!
To every heart that hopes for truth and liberty!
Let freedom ring for our here and far!
Let freedom ring to every nation!

Who is our next president!
Does He or She hold these truths?
Do they cry for Gods sovereign hand upon them?
Do they want the best for America?
Who is our next president?
