Whenever something like the school shooting happens, everyone wants the govt to ''do something'', even if it will do no good, or make things worse.

Private gun ownership is illegal in Chicago, yet the city still ranks high on the annual list of murders per capita.

Criminalization of guns no more reduces gun crime than the criminalization of drugs and prostitution prevents people from doing illegal drugs or paying for sexxx.

Alcohol distribution was criminalized for 13 years in this country. How did that work out?

taotx - as long as people are peaceful and harming noone else, they should be free to live as they please in their own home. It''s none of your business what they do, as long as its consentual and peaceful.

taotx - how does gun ownership show lack of compassion for your fellow man?

taotx - the most dangerous place for children is public schools. They won''t even kick bullies and thugs out because they are ''entitled'' to an education.

taotxzen1,
Most of the time when a gun is used in self defense not a single shot is fired and no one in harmed.
In America guns are used hundreds(and some criminologists say thousands) of times every day in self defense to stop criminals and save lives.
Rarely do these involve shooting.

"taotx - don''''t like guns? Don''''t own one.

Just don''''t tell others how they should live their lives. It''''s called minding your own business."

To me this issue absolutely personifies the difference that divides this country. You have the gun owners that insist on having guns without any rules, regulations or oversight. Assault weapons, the more the better. Cheap guns, bring em on. And the rest of us had just better learn to deal with it. No compassion for the victims of gun violence, oh youll get the old (our thoughts and prayers) line from them but dont you dare try to change anything. It is this lack of caring for their fellow man, selfishness, and lack of humanity that makes me both revile and pity them at the same time. And it makes me thankful that I will never share their (Values.)

By the way, police do NOT ''protect'' ANYONE from criminals and crime. They try to catch the bad guys AFTER the crime has been committed. The government police have no legal obligation to protect anyone from crime or criminals.

I suspect that is actually what DID happen even back in Jefferson''s time. Some of the LESS SANITIZED history of this country described that and WORSE.

This nation has an embarrassingly violent history that if was shown in ALL it''s Violence would make recent statistics look TAME. I DO know that the 70''s is actually the RECORD HOLDER for SCHOOL killings per capita.

A Hundred Years ago the locals here bashed in the local sheriff''s head with a chunk of lumber and it''s still unsolved. Bank Robberies, armed "gangs" and mass murder have a Very long history.

The question SHOULD be WHY our MEDIA GLORIFIES it by providing such ATTENTION and ENCOURAGEMENT now.

Maybe we should Bring back PUBLIC hangings as well for the "infotainment"?

BTW i believe it was an armed "church member" that PREVENTED further carnage in Colorado Springs when THAT incident - once again by someone that SHOULD HAVE been a Mental Hospital Resident due to being OFF his "medication". But then again this nation has SUBSTITUTED PILLS for MENTAL CARE as a CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE and CLOSED those facilities so even if he NEEDED to be watched - nobody looks anymore.
The RESULT is tragedy.

How many NRA members send there last dollar to them to buy off Congressmen to keep them from passing legislation that would make it safe to send your kids to school.

The NRA has fought ever single piece of common sense legislation regarding gun ownership in this country.

Do not tell me the NRA is not a major factor in why America is flooded with cheap guns, dont get me started on assault weapons.
