CBS's Dick Meyer Says Older Americans Have So Far Proven Unwilling To Vote For Barack Obama
- The premise that older voters won''t vote for Obama because of racism is nonsense.
Does it not occur to the author that older voters remember the messes made by inexperienced presidents, especially an exceptionally good man named Jimmy Carter who was an exceptionally bad president.
Expecting proven accomplishments and indications of competence is far from racism. After 8 years of Bush, we must have a president who can do the job, not an attractive cheerleader with high hopes and good intentions.
This 59-year-old white female was an Obama supporter, but I got tired of waiting for the Sen. to show some substance. Since he hasn''t, I don''t think he has any, so I am now looking elsewhere. Inspiration won''t solve this countries enormous problems. - Reply to this comment
- But what has he ever done? He has no track record. The whole thing is a fairy tale like Clinton said.

- Any of the candidates would be a significant improvement as compared to that 2 digit IQ, incoherent, pompous smirking axx that is there now...except Giuliani and ba ba ba, ba ba Iran - McCain. I don''t trust them.
But Dr Paul would represent truly an order of magnitude improvement, especially in those troubled areas of our governmental policies that really count.
but Bush. Except for Giulliani and McCain - Reply to this comment

- "Obama''s Age Gap: Is It Race? "
Yes it is race, but its not racism. My dad is a 90 year old veteran of world war two. He lived much of his life in poverty. He has never been a racist or used any words to slur people of other nationalities. When I first expressed my support for Barack Obama he told me " America will not elect a black man" I said "America will elect a great man". I have black friends that tell me the same thing.
The pundits and the Clintons want to make race a big issue in this race. Barack Obama is not about racial differences he is about "JUSTICE FOR ALL".
My dad ( and many thousands across this country) are becoming more aware of Barack Obama. They are learning about his personal history ,policies, and philosophy. Today, instead of saying, " America will not elect a black man" My dad is saying " I hope America will elect Barack Obama. - Reply to this comment
- cuttingras,
Sorry that we left you peace, prosperity, and a budget surplus.
Thanks so much for leaving us a huge deficit, a mortgage crisis, our troops caught in the middle of a Muslim civil war, environmental degradation, a recession, the dollar worth less than nothing, America seen as the world''s leading war criminal, no body armor for our troops, the largest foreign attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor, unsafe food, unsafe toys for kids, a broken New Orleans, and thousands of wounded troops we can''t afford.
Thanks so much...***! - Reply to this comment

- "I want vote for no water melon eating , cotton picking black boy" - mocaleo
I don''t normally acknowledge idiots, but for you I will make an exception.
Mr. Obama is well employed and pays taxes therefore I am sure he qualifies as a man, not a boy.
If he likes watermelon that is just a sign he has good taste and lives healthy, therefore another plus.
If he picks cotton, that means he must be a hard worker, therefore yet another plus. My father is a white cotton picker and I admire him very much.
But the main reason I will support Obama is because a jackass like you doesn''t like him. But I guess I should thank you, because the more people like you speak out, the more support Obama gets. - Reply to this comment

Well, there you have it...some well thoughtout words from some Neanderthal living in the Everglaze....yes, PLEASE DONT VOTE!!! - Reply to this comment
- True. We are primarily a white, middle class, Christian, nation of patriots. We prefer to elect veterans, males (although we did pass the 19th amendment in 1919) and people who have considerable experience in national politics. That is not saying we wouldn''''t vote for a well qualified person who wasn''''t amoung the above, but he/she needs to have a strong history of patriotism and leadership.

Oh, give me a break!!! When was the last time we put a ''qualified'' person in the White House? We dont care if theyre qualified or not!!! All we are interested in is color, religion, and gun policies. So, if youre a white man, christian(anti-abortion and anti-gay), and protect our right to go hunting with high-powered assault rifles...you could run for president!!! All others need not apply!!! - Reply to this comment
- Why is it "racist" *not* to want to vote for a man because of his race, but not "racist" to *want* to vote for a man because of his race? *Warum?*
