"Congress and the President have no higher responsibility than protecting the American people from enemies who attacked our country."

This quote by Bush, and similar others by various politicians, drives me up the wall. The highest responsibility that the President and members of Congress has is to defend and protect the CONSTITUTION from "ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC." That is the oath they take, and the oath they should be held to. When other actions, such as warrantless spying, directly interferes with this oath, that is an impeachable offense.

Benjamin Franklin said it best in a quote I''ve seen used quite a lot lately: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

If laws were broken, such as poor Telecoms not requesting warrants before they spied on us then let them defend themselves in court like anyone else instead of getting laws changed.

%u201CProviding retroactive immunity to companies that may have violated the law will set a dangerous precedent,%u201D said Dodd. %u201CCompanies who violated the trust of thousands of their customers will be immune to prosecution and the details of their actions will stay hidden.

"The President, and his Administration, has consistently used scare tactics in an attempt to force Congress to pass FISA legislation that provides retroactive immunity," Dodd said.

Senator Dodd is correct NO IMMUNITY. NO IMMUNITY.

They broke the law and new it at the time. All of these companies have legal teams that they run decisions like this by. They made the judgment call that what they did would never come to light. Quest decided not to cooperate because it was illegal and was punished by losing government contracts.

Of the 64%, 14% (9% of all voters) say the abuses are not serious enough to warrant impeachment, 33% (21% of all voters) say the abuses rise to the level of impeachable offenses, but he should not be impeached, and 53% (34% of all voters) say the abuses rise to the level of impeachable offenses and Mr. Bush should be impeached and removed from office.

Sorry to tell you this is how it is played. They have the majority but if they don''t play the game you the voter will remove them.

They don''t have unlimited power and until you vote a Democrat as President and give the Democrats more votes you must live with this.

Most people just don''t get it Jefferson was a genius he did this on purpose so that no one group no matter how powerful can completely control the government.

If Congress gives in to Bush on this then corparations really are now running the country. If they broke the law, then just like anyone else, they should be brought to justice.
