Wilmette, which has a ban on handguns, was charged with violating the ordinance after shooting an alleged burglar. The state legislature quickly passed a bill making it easier for gun owners like Hale Demar to avoid prosecution on "local gun bans" if they were acting in self defense. But Obama voted---"NO"---on the bill, which was sponsored by a former prosecutor. - Reply to this comment
- candide777,.......I''''m not a republican, I''''m a constitutionalist. Posted by cfin5 at 11:12 PM : Nov 10, 2007
I don''t blame you, I''d be pretty embarrassed to call myself a republican too. I use to vote republican until I realized that republican candidates believe almost zero percent of what they say. It all sounds good until you realize that it''s just a sell to the middle class to get them to vote republican. I wised up long before GWB came along. I think you had to be pretty drunk on the republican kool-aide if you bought any of GWB''s lies. Of course, after becoming president, he took every opportunity he had to wipe his arse with the U.S. Constitution. - Reply to this comment
- This all comes down to the sum of what President Bush (both) and Clinton (maybe both) have done and are doing. It''''s called BIG BROTHER!........Ron Paul, the NOT global socialist candidate for 2008! GO USA!!!

I''ll agree with you on one thing, no president has wrought more destruction upon freedom in this country than George W. Bush and the republican party. Their behaviour during the last 7 years has truly delighted Osama bin Laden. bin Laden got precisely the kind of hysterical reaction he was hoping for from the U.S. and it''s brain-dead president, both outside (Iraq) and at home (the Patriot Act). Not many things in life are certain, but one thing is: bin Laden is pleased as punch with himself, thanks to the mentally retarded republican party. Meanwhile, the U.S. has egg all over its face. We won''t live this down anytime soon. Rather than teach them a lesson, our president has emboldened terrorists all over the world. - Reply to this comment
- .........Nice try! First of all I thank you for another opportunity to expose your Big Brother hype of standing behind the countries founding fathers. It''''s apparent you are a teacher/student of the antithetical principals of a civic textbook called "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution". . . . .blah, blah, blah, blah . . .

LOL! You didn''t present a single argument, just totally unsubstantiated ad hominem attacks, which seems to be all you are capable of. I''ve never heard of the "textbook" to which you refer. I don''t have much use for dumb-downed versions of those texts, which you apparently rely upon. I bet you didn''t know this, but their actual writings are still in print!! You can read the real McCoy! That''s what I did in college. I totally ignored the BS propaganda that our right wing professor use so spew out during his lectures in an effort to convert us all into gun-nut naziis. Still got an A. It was amusing watching him bend, twist and stretch their words in an effort to get their texts to support his own personal political agenda, much the way you try to do on this website, except your arguments appear to be void of any of their original texts. Go Ron Paul, LOL, I will follow you into the bowels of hell, for you are my Lord and Saviour! LOL! - Reply to this comment
So, my dear sir, it appears that it is you who have been arguing with our founding fathers, not me . . .

.........Nice try! First of all I thank you for another opportunity to expose your Big Brother hype of standing behind the countries founding fathers. It''s apparent you are a teacher/student of the antithetical principals of a civic textbook called "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution". This NEA endorced/subsidized textbook does nothing but cast doubt on what our Constitution says into what one wishes it to say. In other words, Allegorical interpretation of it trumps the authors intended literal meaning. The text book even encourages the pupil to diminish the importance of his/her citizenship to that of UN citizenship tauted in the UN Declaration of Human Rights. It also steers the student to believe our unalienable rights should "evolve" over time and place limitations on our rights......This all comes down to the sum of what President Bush (both) and Clinton (maybe both) have done and are doing. It''s called BIG BROTHER!........Ron Paul, the NOT global socialist candidate for 2008! GO USA!!!- Reply to this comment

Ah, another strawman argument from cfin5. Actually, I''m a true fan of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Samuel Adams, Thomas Paine, John Locke, etc. (Doesn''t mean I blindly adhere to everything they had to say --don''t even purport to know everything they had to say) More importantly, I don''t simply use them to justify my paranoia. I support the constitution 100%, but I''m personally outraged when gun nuts try to convince others that the Second Amendment was intended to protect the rights of an INDIVIDUAL to keep a gun in his house. In case you haven''t noticed, things have changed a tiny bit since then, but rather than protecting the spirit of the Second Amendment, gun nuts focus solely on the second clause, which doesn''t even say what they say it does, and they totally ignore the first clause. It''s really shameless.
So, my dear sir, it appears that it is you who have been arguing with our founding fathers, not me . . . - Reply to this comment

Citigroup''s Charles Prince Will Get $40 Million
Citigroup, the largest bank in the United States, said on Thursday that its former Chairman and Chief Executive, Charles Prince, will take home roughly $40 million as he retires from the company.
Citi shares have fallen for eight straight sessions, in a slump that has chopped $48.5 billion off the bank''s market capitalization.
The $40 million is in addition to about $53 million of shares Prince already owns,
Prince is receiving considerably less than the $161.5 million that Merrill Lynch''s O''Neal received
