- If lowering benefits is the only way to keep Social Security solvent, then, so be it.

- RON PAUL WILL PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY
I agree with Dr. Paul on the Social Security issue. Our nation''s promise to its seniors, once considered a sacred trust, has become little more than a tool for politicians to scare retirees while robbing them of their promised benefits to pay for militarization. Today, the Social Security system is both broke and broken. Those in the system are seeing their benefits dwindle due to higher taxes, increasing inflation, and irresponsible military spending. The proposed solutions, ranging from lower benefits to higher taxes to increasing the age of eligibility, are NOT solutions; they are betrayals. Imposing any tax on Social Security benefits is unfair and illogical. In Congress, Dr. Paul introduced the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act (H.R. 191), which repeals ALL taxes on Social Security benefits, to eliminate political theft of our seniors'' income and raise their standard of living. Solvency is the key to keeping our promise to our seniors, and he introduced the Social Security Preservation Act (H.R. 219) to ensure that money paid into the system is ONLY used for Social Security. Also, it is fundamentally unfair to give benefits to anyone who has not paid into the system. The Social Security for Americans Only Act (H.R. 190), which Ron Paul supported, ends the drain on Social Security caused by illegal aliens seeking the fruits of your labor. We must also address the widespread desire of younger workers to save for retirement on their own. - Reply to this comment
- RON PAUL: A GUN OWNER''S BEST FRIEND
Like Ron Paul, I share our Founders'' belief that in a free society each citizen must have the right to keep and bear arms. They ratified the Second Amendment knowing that this right is the guardian of every other right, and they all would be horrified by the proliferation of unconstitutional legislation that prevents Law-abiding Americans from exercising this right. Congressman, Paul has always supported the Second Amendment and these are some of the Bills he introduced in the current Congress to help restore respect for it: H.R. 1096 includes provisions repealing the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the Federal Firearms License Reform Act, two invasive and unconstitutional Bills. H.R. 1897 would end the ban on carrying a firearm in the National Park System, restoring Americans'' ability to protect themselves in potentially hazardous situations. H.R. 3305 would allow pilots and specially assigned personnel to carry firearms in order to protect airline passengers, possibly preventing future 9/11-style attacks. H.R. 1146 would end our membership in the United Nations, protecting us from their attempts to tax our guns or disarm us entirely. In the past, he introduced legislation to repeal the so-called assault weapons ban before its 2004 sunset, and he has opposed all attempts to reinstate it. Congessman, Paul also recently opposed H.R. 2640, which would allow government-appointed psychiatrists to ban veterans experiencing any form of PTSD. - Reply to this comment
- Obama''''''''s record on firearms in Illinois not being reported on any where!
I cant get past Obama''''''''s support and passage of the stated law in Illinois that makes it a crime to protect your wife, son , daughter, and home against an intruder bent on doing you and your family harm.
The law states the because it''''''''''''''''s illegal to have a gun in your home, if you use one to protect yourself and family you are facing felony charges and probably going to jail.
In my opinion there is something horribly wrong with that kind of thinking.
"I Try To Stick To What I Think" I have not heard the media, bring up this "type of thinking of his" at all.
DONT YOU THINK EVERY CROOK WOULD SUPPORT THIS?
NOW WE KNOW WHICH SEGMENT OBAMA WILL SUPPORT! - Reply to this comment
- I have a sure cure for Social Security. We need a national referendum to give all of our Senators, Congressmen and ex-Presidents Social Security as their retirement package instead of the the overly generous pay and benefits we give them now. Then see how fast it gets fixed.

- I''m tired of comments like the one from tomar0317, and indeed the first sentence of this article, about how awful the concept of cutting benefits is. Seniors are getting screwed! Benefits will get cut!
No, Sparky, it''s the current generation of taxpayers, and their siblings, who are getting screwed. SS (as it is currently structured) is nothing more than a giant Ponzi scheme. Seniors are living longer than ever, and couples are having less children than ever (and waiting longer to have them. And benefits are indexed to wages, not inflation, so the payout keeps getting higher.
The net effect is fewer taxpayers - getting hit with more and more taxes - per beneficiary, who is living longer and collecting increasingly higher payouts evey month. - Reply to this comment
- Had the congress and administration left social security alone back in the 60''s-90''s the program would be in this problem. The 401k is a cover up and will like social security fail because the stock market is so undependable. Big business and high spenders determine where the market goes leaving us 401Kers in deep trouble, as usual. Seniors have been screwed time and time again, from their retirement incomes being taxed higher each year to having to pay more for medical. These poor folks put in their time and decades of hard work. They deserve better. Stop giving the social security monies to people that don''t earn them. Stop taking care of the world''s people and lets concentrate on taking care of our own! While I''m at it, stop *** our Vets!

- Whatever the plan is, I say vote out of office anyone who is going to tell us that the money that has been coming out of our paychecks every two weeks, over the course of 30 plus years of our lives, suffering through the work life we all suffer through, if that money is not there because of corruption and greed of the people who pretend to be our public servants.

- Under his plan, which the former senator unveiled in Washington, workers would be able to contribute two percent of pre-tax income into a personal savings.
This worker and her husband did this long time ago. If SS. is there great! If not we are GREAT! - Reply to this comment
- I do think that SS needs some tweaking, the plan that he is proposing is political suicide. I know one thing about elder Americans, and this is that they vote in huge numbers. He is dead in the water if he keeps up promoting this plan, which is good. He would be a horrible president.

- What is it with Southern Fascist? Can''t they understand when the PEOPLE of this nation tell them that a certain idea they have proposed is NOT acceptable. This idea was NOT acceptable in 1956 and it''s not acceptable today. Social Security is something that EVERY American Worker has a right to and it should be changed to pay out to all workers that which it''s supposed too. I''m tired of sending 190 BILLION dollars to fight a war that did NOT have to be and deprive AMERICAN''s of what they DESERVE! Now if the Fascist can''t understand that, it''s time they were ALL voted out of office.... PERIOD!!! Sieg Heil Bush!!

- My understanding is that there would have never been the first problem if it wasn''t the perpetual "pilfering" by our leaders spendaholic and never pay it back attitude. The only thing that ever happens is the recipients are penalized constantly. This is my main point of distrust for ANY other health (commicare) plan from the government......If you can''t run Social Security correctly, what makes you think that we can trust you guys to load on our backs more socialist type of programs and expect us to believe it? You couldn''t wave the American Flag in my face everyday to get me to swallow that malarkey!
