Democratic Hopeful Says He Would Personally Negotiate, Offer Incentives
- War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. John Stuart Mill
It is well that war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it. Robert E. Lee
A self-respecting nation is ready for anything, including war, except for a renunciation of its option to make war. Simone Weil
If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace. Thomas Paine
Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realise that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events. Winston Churchill
One ought never to turn one''s back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Winston Churchill
The pacifist is as surely a traitor to his country and to humanity as is the most brutal warmonger. Theodore Roosevelt - Reply to this comment

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Ben Franklin
We make war that we may live in peace. Aristotle
It is an unfortunate fact that we can secure peace only by preparing for war. John F. Kennedy
There''s a graveyard in northern France where all the dead boys from D-Day are buried. The white crosses reach from one horizon to the other. I remember looking it over and thinking it was a forest of graves. But the rows were like this, dizzying, diagonal, perfectly straight, so after all it wasn''t a forest but an orchard of graves. Nothing to do with nature, unless you count human nature. Barbara Kingsolver
They have not wanted Peace at all; they have wanted to be spared war -- as though the absence of war was the same as peace. Dorothy Thompson
There is nothing so likely to produce peace as to be well prepared to meet the enemy. George Washington
I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain. - What''s Ron''s message? Whatever you think Dr. Paul''s campaign is about, the main thing it has done thus far is to serve as a clearinghouse for voters like me who feel unrepresented by New World Order Fasciscts (mainstream Republicans) and their Socialist comrades in crime (mainstream Democrats). They''re actually one and the same. There is no real difference between the two parties. Most people, though, are too distracted, dumbed-down, or outright brainwashed by mainstream media, which endlessly regurgitates scientifically-crafted streams of information aimed at keeping your eyes closed to the realities of the world around you, that you fail to recognize this. Those currently in power, and those being groomed to take [major] political power, are the "global elite," and we are their "Plebs." People on the right and those on the left have many differences, maybe irreconcilable ones. But they have a lot of common beliefs too, and their numbers and anger are of a considerable magnitude. No matter what happens in 2008, I personally believe Ron Paul will influence the national conversation about what the role of the federal government is, how much power should government have over our lives, how much liberty we should give up for security. These are important issues, and frankly, no one''s talking about them as seriously and sincerely as Ron Paul. What''s for sure is that his growing army of supporters like me will be a force to be reckoned with in 2008.

More important, they also helped to draw away any critical examination from the real engine of our violence: Islamic theology.

Our Prophet commanded us to fight the kaafirs when we are able and to attack them in their homelands and to give them three choices before we enter their lands: either they become Muslim and be like us, sharing our rights and duties; or they pay the jizyah (poll tax) and feel themselves subdued; or they fight, in which case their wealth, women, children and homes become permissible as booty for the Muslims.

- IS RON PAUL A RACIST OR ANTI-SEMITE? PROBABLY!!!
The fact is, Ron Paul is totally out of touch with reality. If Ron''s ideas about what is consitutional were to prevail, Missouri would pass laws prohibiting blacks from marrying whites and Georgia would require blacks to use different bathrooms and water fountains. The federal government stepped in on these issues because something needed to be done. Whereas George Bush Senior did in fact vote against the 1964 Civil Rights Act because he is a racist, Ron Paul would have voted against it because he is out of touch with reality. Ron Paul is so wedded to principal that he cannot see the forest for the trees. We don''t need a dogmatic conservative, we need a practical president with practical solutions to the very real problems this country faces. Let''s not have another dogmatic lunatic like GWB. I want a president who can think for himself and recognize that there is no single one-size fits all solution to this country''s problems. That''s what you get with Ron Paul, an idiot who thinks that if you get rid of the federal government or totally disable it, all our problems will magically be solved. Ron Paul is a lunatic, and that''s the real reason the media hasn''t paid much attention to him.
To answer the question, it doesn''t matter if Ron Paul is a bigot, he will push the same policies that a bigot would push, without regard for its impact on the lives of real people. - Reply to this comment

Re: Lebanon
Spoken like a true Fascist.
Hizbullah has ground its Syrian-Iranian boot into the heart of Lebanon for 30 years, but all you will ever do is blame the Israelis. I guess you''ll blame them for the murder of Rafik Hariri - a guy who CERTAINLY WAS NO friend of Israel, or for the countless dead Muslims who wouldn''t accept Sharia sh*t from these cowards.
The only Lebanese who were willing to fight the Israelis were the sh*t from Hizbullah - who even put their heavy weapons in the cribs of babies - ask an average Lebanese, especially the Christian population what they think of Israel and the vast majority will agree - that they only wish a gutless wonder like Olmert had the balls to march into Beirut and shoot the Shi''ite Osama dead. As he deserves.

- What we need is a President who will show us the way. Not the old way. Not the same way, but a NEW WAY. Think about this for a minute. What if we pulled all of our troops out of South Korea? They''ve been there for 50+ years. What if we quit worrying about Iran, but instead, realized that its having a nuclear weapon will not mean the end of the world? What if we pulled all of our troops out of the Middle-East, and brought them all home? What if we realistically addressed the National Debt, and paid attention to REALLY DOING SOMETHING about stopping illegal immigration? These are the ideas of Republican Presidential candidate, Dr. Ron Paul. He''s a ten term Congressman and a physician who has delivered over 4,000 babies. He''s an intellectual who''s published four books, three of which are devoted entirely to sound economics and one to foreign policy. He was raised on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania as a pious Lutheran, but now he attends a Baptist church. Paul is given to mulling things over morally. Whenever he recollects the helicopter pilots he treated as an Air Force Flight Surgeon (Captain) during the Vietnam War, a war which he now says was "totally unnecessary and illegal," he laments, "They were gung-ho. I''ve often thought about how many of those people never came back." Candidates with the high level of personal integrity and proven track record of adherance to The Constitution, Congressman Paul has always demonstrated only come around once in a lifetime, if we''re lucky.

- "I am unwilling either to cede to federal courts the authority to redefine marriage, or to deny a state%u2019s ability to preserve the traditional definition of marriage." Ron Paul
Ron Paul would have also voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If it were up to Ron, states would still be permitted to prohibit blacks from marrying whites, and they would still be allowed to keep blacks separate but "equal," among other things that this nation no longer finds morally tolerable. It''s time to get wrong-minded people like Ron Paul out of government. Vote for anyone, but don''t vote for Ron Paul! - Reply to this comment
- Ron Paul "is one of the easiest people in Congress to work with, because he bases his positions on the merits of issues," says Barney Frank, who has worked with Paul on efforts to ease the regulation of gambling and medical marijuana. "He is independent, but not ornery." Paul has made a habit of objecting to things that no one else objects to. Simply put, RON PAUL NEVER VOTES FOR ANY BILL WHICH HE FEELS IS NOT AUTHORIZED BY THE CONSTITUTION (no matter what it''s mis-named). In October 2001, he was one of only three House Republicans to vote against the USA Patriot Act. He was the sole House member of either party to vote against the Financial Antiterrorism Act (final tally: 412-1). In 1999, he was the only naysayer in a 424-1 vote in favor of casting a medal to honor Rosa Parks. Nothing against Rosa Parks, apparently: Paul also voted against similar medals for Ronald Reagan, who was a close personal friend, and Pope John Paul II. He not only routinely opposes resolutions that are UNCONSTITUTIONAL, he votes against all Bills which presume to advise foreign governments how to run their affairs: He has refused to condemn Robert Mugabe%u2019s violence against Zimbabwean citizens (421-1), to call on Vietnam to release political prisoners (425-1) or to ask the League of Arab States to help stop the killing in Darfur (425-1). This man not only talks the talk. He walks the walk--a man of principle. Just the type of President we need.

- In Congress, Ron Paul is not only known for his lack of ego (a rare quality in Washington), he''s widely admired for his resistance to the influence of special interest groups. They don''t call him "Dr. No" for no reason. He consistanly votes against pork-barrel spending. In a rice-growing, cattle-ranching district, Dr. Paul consistently votes against farm subsidies. In the very district where, on the night of Sept. 8, 1900, a storm destroyed the city of Galveston, and where repairs from Hurricane Rita and refugees from Hurricane Katrina continue to exact their toll, he votes against FEMA and flood aid. In a district that is home to thousands of employees of the Johnson Space Center, he votes against financing NASA. Nothwithstanding this, his constituants in the 14th District of Texas continue to re-relect him. Why? You ask? I think one voter I talked to there summarized it nicely when she said, "We may not like his vote. But we trust his heart." Ron Paul is a man with Presidential-like constitutional integrity and frugal spending principles, which I fully support. That''s why he has my vote.

Ron who? Is he still running? Didn''t he use to be the Pope? Why is it that his supporters are all brain-dead nitwits totally incapable of engaging other than to spread their annoying political spam? - realpatriot1--I don''t believe the Syrians were behind the killings...Hezb''allah had the political momentum with them...they didn''t need the killings...I suspect that they do not even want the responsibility of governing Lebanon...after all, look what happened to Palestine when they elected Hamas...Right now they have the best of both worlds.
The Syrians are bending over backwards to please the Americans and have offered to sit down with the Israelis--but this has been ignored because negotiations and peace will mean that Israel will finally have to demarcate it borders and a peace deal will mean giving up the Heights. Why risk assassinating Lebanese leaders? I suspect, deep down in their heart of hearts, they are not at all crazy about the Shi''a dominated Hezzies. Leaving Lebanon benefited Syria in many ways...one in particular deserves note....they can''t be drawn into a war with Israel by any IDF attack on their positions in Lebanon after some incident like the one with the captured IDFers. If I were a Neo-Con, that is how I would have got the war against Syria going...Now, they have to attack Syria proper and find away to get the Syrians to fight back so they can scream bloody murder about Syrian aggression...the air strike apparently didn''t work... - Reply to this comment
- real patriot--The Israeli story is that their soldiers were kidnapped from their side of the border--I choose not to believe them--any more than I believe their lies about mistaking the USS LIBERTY for an Egyptian horse hauler. The captured soldiers were going to be used to gain the return of Lebanese citizens in captivity since the first Israeli invasion. As long as Israel occupies areas of Lebanon, Lebanese have the right to fight back. Notice also that Hezb'' allah did not rocket attack Israeli civilian targets until Lebanese villages came under fire from the IDF--and there are pictures of Israeli track mounted guns shelling from Israeli towns.
The Israelis were preparing for this attack months earlier and used, or orchestrated, this incident to kick off the attack. - Reply to this comment

- sendreidpelo,
I''m a Democrat but we don''t all walk in lockstep anymore than all conservative Republicans do.
I''ve never denied that we''re in a war on terror in the middle east and here at home. I part company with conservatives when they demonize all Muslims(including the Muslims who''ve supported our policies and taken heat for it and the great majority of the masses who don''t blow up markets or shoot people).
I believe that we will ultimately win the war on terror but we''ll do so by holding true to the principles that separate us from our enemies, not by getting down into the same gutter.
Sure, we need to take them on militarily wherever it''s justifiable(like Afghanistan where we attacked those who attacked us). When we attack and occupy those who didn''t attack us first we''re damaging our own reputation in both the democratic and Muslim world.
In order to be an agent for peace in the middle east we need a certain level of credibility with both sides. We have to be genuinely as nuetral as possible to have any chance of accomplishing anything positive for the long-term.
That''s why I favor policies that aren''t too closely aligned with the militaries/governments of either the Israelis or Arabs and I recognize that all sides in this 60 year old conflict have blood on their hands.
What matters isn''t who attacked who first or who stole whose land first. What''s important is who will take risks for peace and who will share God''s land with their brother. - Reply to this comment
