Changes To S-CHIP Measure Fail To Produce A Veto-Proof Majority
- Parrot2: Smoking is most prevelant among low-income Americans. Therefore, increase the tobacco tax and it hits low-income Americans hardest. The Bushies, in their apparent quest to create a caste system in America, want the poor to get poorer and the rich to get richer. The majority of Americans are not rich. Hence, keep the masses poor.

- It does too little to enroll low-income families ahead of those slightly better off, and because it includes a tax hike -- in this case, on tobacco. So the Dimnowits are still hell bent on getting the middle class off their insurance onto government funded programs and the hords have to listen to the same old c/rap over and over again about how the poor are deprived of care. Do they think everyone''s as stupid as them?

What you people need to do is STOP TALKING ABOUT IT AND JUST DO IT.!!
There is no way that Bush CAN''T veto it because there is NO MONEY!! All money has to go to that war as long as there are troops there. And even if they decided TODAY to bring the troops home, it will take time. - Reply to this comment
- Just got this visual of Bush holding the bible against his breast with his loyal MORAL BASE Republicans following him........around the bend..over the mountains...and off the STEEP cliff.....all the while singing loudly...
"Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
with the cross of Jesus going on before.

forward into battle see his banners go! - Reply to this comment
- 13 votes short of a two-thirds majority.
All Republicans time to clean more house America. They are not listening again what will it take. Maybe putting them in the Super minority for a few decades will clean their heads out. - Reply to this comment
- The issue here is of course healthcare for the poor children, but you have a President that is willing to talk fiscal responsibility when funds are asked to assist our nations poor - but yet he neglects to bring up that subject when he asks for billions to fund a war that isn''t working.........
That is a huge part of the issue for most Americans with this president and this subject. - Reply to this comment
- I hate to say it, but for once, I''m with the Prez. Health care is not an issue that will be solved by raising taxes...throwing money at this problem will not make it go away. There needs to be a major reform of the American Health Insurance business. I have far too many ideas on how to do this to post here, but rest assured, I''ll send them to my representatives in congress. I''ll also urge them to support the veto. Raising taxes on tobacco, alcohol, etc. is NOT solving anything, it''s just a way to keep the masses poor and out of the way.

I think instead of just vetoing the 50 billion they should veto it all. But hey instead of that give it too him one month at a time and each time try to pass a time line. I wonder how long before the full weight of America leans on the GOP once and for all for the next century. - Reply to this comment
- "A 61-cent increase in the federal excise tax on a pack of cigarettes."
That means $8.00 a pack in New Jersey.
That sucks.

I will tell you what sucks. Its watching a loved one "Gasp and SUCK" for every once of breath they get after being daiagnosed with COPD or lung cancer. That''s what really SUCKS. I would like to see a pack of Killer Cigarettes cost $100.00 per pack with an additional tax of $50.00 on top of that. It''s time BIG TOBACCO is told enough is enough, You have lied to us for decades and it''s time to control tobacco like any other drug or chemical that is causing harm.
