Former VP Says Now Is Time To "Elevate Global Consciousness" On Climate Change
- David Bellamy, environmental campaigner, broadcaster and former botanist: "Global warming is a largely natural phenomenon. The world is wasting stupendous amounts of money on trying to fix something that can%u2019t be fixed."[17] Bellamy later admitted that he had cited faulty data and announced on 29 May 2005 that he had "decided to draw back from the debate on global warming", [18] but in 2006 he joined a climate skeptic organization [19] and in 2007 published a paper arguing that a doubling of atmospheric CO2 "will amount to less than 10C of global warming [and] such a scenario is unlikely to arise given our limited reserves of fossil fuels%u2014certainly not before the end of this century." [20]
Robert M. Carter, geologist, researcher at the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University in Australia: "The essence of the issue is this. Climate changes naturally all the time, partly in predictable cycles, and partly in unpredictable shorter rhythms and rapid episodic shifts, some of the causes of which remain unknown." (Telegraph, April 9, 2006 [22])

- Khabibullo Ismailovich Abdusamatov, mathematician and astronomer at Pulkovskaya Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the supervisor of the Astrometria project of the Russian section of the International Space Station: "Global warming results not from the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, but from an unusually high level of solar radiation and a lengthy - almost throughout the last century - growth in its intensity...
Reid Bryson, emeritus professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison: "It%u2019s absurd. Of course it%u2019s going up. It has gone up since the early 1800s, before the Industrial Revolution, because we%u2019re coming out of the Little Ice Age, not because we%u2019re putting more carbon dioxide into the air." - Al Gore was a loser then and is still a loser! Him winning the Nobel Prize means nothing. For crying out loud they gave Jimmy Carter a Nobel Prize also, and that also was a shame.

- s1ckd09 there are many scientists who don''t believe that the cause of our warmer weather is mainly humans.. I am sure that we are not the cause of Mars and Plutos ice caps melting eh.. if we look at only one reason for the warming and there are others we could be heading for problems,, but as many hundreds of years ago you could grow crops in Iceland I have a feeling that all we might be doing is heading back to weather like then.. or we are just going through one of the many normal process in our history.. as the sun is warmer then that is another possibility for the earth, Pluto and Mar''s ice caps melting...
I have read of many scientists who don''t believe that we are getting out of the worlds normal weather swings.. weather.. eg..
Timothy F. Ball, former Professor of Geography, University of Winnipeg: "(The world''s climate) warmed from 1680 up to 1940, but since 1940 it''s been cooling down. "Temperatures declined from 1940 to 1980 and in the early 1970''s global cooling became the consensus.
By the 1990''s temperatures appeared to have reversed and Global Warming became the consensus. It appears I''ll witness another cycle before retiring, as the major mechanisms and the global temperature trends now indicate a cooling." (Feb. 5, 2007) [7]
this is just one man, and there are many others like him.. but of course they are all stupid eh.. - Reply to this comment
- Global warming is a fact. You can''''t disregard the facts of life, simply because you found one or two crazy "scientists" who don''''t go along with the concensus. What we have at this point in time is a concensus of the vast majority of scientists in climatology and related fields that say:
1. The Globe is warming quickly.
2. This warming will cause chaos and death.
3. Burning fossil fuels contributes to the warming.
4. We can and MUST do something about it ASAP.
============
And you can talk about consensus all you want, but it doesn''t exist. There are way more then "one or two crazy scientists" that don''t go along with it. It is telling, though, that any scientist that doesn''t agree is "crazy" in your view. - Reply to this comment
- SgtRDS, if you are still on...way back you criticized me for putting Saddam in as having won the Noble Prize and you are correct. I haven''t had any real sleep for a few nights and should have been more careful, I was meaning Yasser Arafat also won the Peace prize, and look at what he was like, he killed thousands..
I feel that this prize has become no prize at all..
Yes we have to do something about our pollution, but we are obviously colder than in the Viking days as they grew crops in Iceland.. - Reply to this comment
- Quite frankly I am more concerned about the "pathetic, purchased leadership" on both sides of the aisle neither of which are addressing America''s problems. 17 contenders for the presidency and all of them are lapdogs. Not a statesman amongst them. No uniters, no persons of vision just purchased "poodles" in their "poodle skirts".

"There is no question that America is living a nightmare with no end in sight," Sanchez told a group of journalists covering military affairs.

WOW, MORE EVIDENCE THAT WE''RE WINNING THE WAR ON TERROR!!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
GIVE THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TO THE #1 TERRORIST HUNTER IN THE WORLD, GEORGE W. BUSH!!

- The consequences of NOT ACTING will be severe. Why delay the inevitable? The ONLY ones who gain are the OIL companies. I can''''t believe that ALL OF YOU are actually getting paid by the oil companies to submit your constant barrage of lies.

That''s because we aren''t being paid by anyone. And you won''t find a single lie in my posts about GW. Libs just can''t stand the fact that people don''t bow down and worship THEM when they say something, so they always blame it on Rebublicans being Nazis, or Fascists, or Hallibuton employees, or Oil company payees, etc.
But my real problem is the assertion that it is inevitable and that if we don''t act the consequences will be severe. You mean severe like the 20 ft increase in sea level? Oh, that was one of those "minor" exagerations. Not 20ft, but more like 1.5 feet over a hundred years. What are these severe consequences and where is any supporting evidence that it will happen, or that we won''t adapt? We''ve adapted to all the global warming so far, haven''t we? In fact, we thrive on a warmer planet. I''d be more worried about Universal Asteroids than Global Warming. - Reply to this comment

- Bush is the real winner of this prize.
He''s going to get the US Supreme Court to step in and AWARD THE 2007 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TO TO GEORGE W. BUSH, SAVIOR OF THE WORLD!!
Look at his accomplishments!!
Iraq is a model of democracy in the middle east!
Israel and Palestine co existing peacefully!
And the US treasury with two trillion dollars surplus!
Let''s declare the Nobel Peace award null and void and get the US SUPREME COURT TO GIVE IT TO GEORGE W. BUSH!
They did that in 2000, they can do it again!
IF YOU CAN''T WIN ''EM, STEAL ''EM!!!

- So the74blaster,
This muzzle Bush put on scientists, are you referring to the one who claimed that he was being muzzled after he had granted well over 100 interviews and the Administration told him "no" on ONE of them?
I thought scientists weren''t supposed to exagerrate... like the Politician Algore does in his movie. - Reply to this comment

I am sorry too, but as a scientist, you should know better than to make unsupported assumptions. I don''t know where you see my "conservative hatred" in my comment. Further, you then make assumptions of what I do and do not support from Bush. Are you surprised by the liberal hatred for conservaitves or for Bush? Then again, I''m not surprised by it either, so I will take it as a backhanded compliment that you were "surprised" by hatred, even though none was exhibited by me.
If you researched the movie and don''t see political spin, you are not much of a researcher. He clearly falsifies, exagerrates, and/or misrepresents data, and that can easily be shown by the most elementary of researching. I posted 11 things a judge found wrong in this movie.
Global warming has gone away many times before without any help from mankind, it is foolish to think it won''t again. And nobody says GW doesn''t exist, they just disagree on the cause. And I am not willing to sacrifice my children''s future for an unproven theory and wild predictions that don''t match real life observations. - Reply to this comment
- What are we doing to this holy ground, this land that God gave to us all
''Cause everywhere I hear that crashing sound that trees make when they fall
Why can''t we understand when it turns to sand
There''s no way you can bring it back again
Why don''t we change the plan, and try to save this land
And make a promise not to hurt again this holy ground
What are we doing to this sacred heart, this heart that''s beating for us all
''Cause everywhere I see it torn apart as tears like rain will fall
Why don''t we take the time, take a look inside
Try to understand what''s going wrong
Stop trying to change the tide, overcome our pride
Take off our shoes, this place we''re standing on is holy ground
Get out of doing the things you do in the dark
Keep the flame alive in your heart
What are we doing to the children''s lives, the ones we shouldn''t hurt at all
''Cause in the night I hear their lonely cries, so frail and small
How can we just stand by and watch them fade and die
Before they even reach the age of ten
Why don''t we heal the pain, take away this shame
And make a vow to give them back again this holy ground - Reply to this comment
- A liberal like Algore getting a Nobel from a group of liberal, old, white Swedes is not an acheivement. It''''s pretty much business as usual.
It seems you are forgetting about Henry Kisenger. He also recived the Nobel peace prize so we can deduce that they award it to conservatives as well.
However, I doubt the Nobel Committee has put a muzzle on scientists like the Bush administration has.
Instead they meet with the defense contractors so they can plan on how to profit from $ 190 billion we could use for research to find a cure for cancer, perhaps fund social security or rebuild our nation''s infrastructure. - Reply to this comment
- New photos of Bush without make up and scientist are still trying to determine the origin of his species the closet they have come is a cross between a "horse fly and a canine". Photos at:

- Since when does creating a film full of lies equate to "hard work"?
I am sorry but I feel a response is needed here!
As a scientist, I often run into people who do not posssess the technical background to hold a meaningful conversation in regards to engineering and physics. However, I do not pretend to know everything and when another theory or design is brought I welcome it because their is a good chance I can learn something from it.
However, I am surprised by the level of conservative hatred over Gores remarkable accomplishment.
Why is it that you cannot follow the leadership of Bush and offer some respect for this accomplishment?
After all I would bet that you probably still support every other decison Bush hs made!
I researched Gore''s movie it does not put a political spin on the problem of global warming. It is foolish to think global warming is going away without any action by mankind.
Are you willing to bet your children''s future that global warming does not exist?
As a scientist I can tell you that I would not. - Reply to this comment

Remember Global Cooling?
Why scientists find climate change so hard to predict.
WEB EXCLUSIVE
By Jerry Adler
Updated: 5:41 p.m. ET Oct 23, 2006
Oct. 23, 2006 - In April, 1975, in an issue mostly taken up with stories about the collapse of the American-backed government of South Vietnam, NEWSWEEK published a small back-page article about a very different kind of disaster. Citing "ominous signs that the earth''s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically," the magazine warned of an impending "drastic decline in food production." Political disruptions stemming from food shortages could affect "just about every nation on earth." Scientists urged governments to consider emergency action to head off the terrible threat of . . . well, if you had been following the climate-change debates at the time, you''d have known that the threat was: global cooling.
All in all, it''s probably just as well that society elected not to follow one of the possible solutions mentioned in the NEWSWEEK article: to pour soot over the Arctic ice cap, to help it melt.- Reply to this comment
