Bush the most intelligent man alive today. He has manipulated, twisted, and distorted the truth so that millions now believe falsehood to be truth. They believe we are in Iraq because Iraq attacked us on 9/11, that tax cuts for the wealthy are just, all poor people are lazy and should be denied help. They believe hating certain groups of people to be moral. They believe that killing, supporting wealth, taking from the poor, and denying human rights are Christian values.

I''m no bible thumping Christian, but I live my life by some simple principles that Jesus put forth. What so ever you do to the least of my brothers you also do unto me. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven. Be watchful for false teachers.

Bush has managed to twist truth to a point where many believe it''s their Christian duty to support him. They do so with smiles on their faces believing in their hearts that George Bush speaks with God. They believe that he is a holy and righteous man. He is in alignment with America''s greatest preachers who preach hate against certain groups and non Christian faiths. Didn''t Jesus tell us to love even our enemies?

I ask you to think about these things as you watch George Bush and the Republican party, who stand for family values, send millions of poor children forth without adequate health coverage so that insurance companies and tobacco companies can reap their profits.

Yes, remember Schiavo.
That''s the answer I expected from you, but I''d like
to see the republican answer to that question :-)

How is it compatible with the republican philosophy of minimal government intervention to give taxpayer money to private companies ?

The "minimalist intervention" part has been absent from Republican philosophy for decades, their sad attempts to legislate morality goes way back to the criminalizing of marijuana, and beyond.

Giving our money to crony companies has been a mainstay in Republican politics since before Reagan''s "trickle down" BS tried to codify it.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but I seem to remember that the original proposal was to get the funding (1) from tobacco taxes and (2) from lowering the subsidies to private insurance companies ...
Somehow in the process, (2) was dropped. Was it to get republican support to get 2/3 of the senate votes ?

With a program such as this, we will not only provide affordable health care, but will also drastically lower unemployment, and the need for doctors to be in debt before they even graduate. There will also be pressure for private insurers and health care providers to lower prices and improve services, or perish from their own inefficiency.

Not to mention it makes a minimal (one can even say negligible)impact on taxes for the majority, except drunks, potheads, and gamblers, who would then provide some benefit from their consumptions, rather than draining resources in jail.

Therein lies the problem, Bush wants the "government" to subcontract out to private insurance companies, which will then instantly mark up all rates. Watch the stocks of the insurance companies to see what I mean, the closer Bush gets, the higher the stock value.

The Democrats, are afraid to propose revenue neutral possibilities for direct government controls, and are slowly toeing the Bush line.

Here is my idea,

1. Legalize and tax alcohol, tobaccol firearms, marijuana, and gambling.
2. Audit the contracts for government procurements, force the refund of all amounts marked up over the standard market price for the items.
3. Reduce the military budget to a level consistent with protecting US borders and lands, apply the difference to the kitty for a five year period.
4. Standardize and apply all fines for violations of environmental regulations, remove judges'' discretion.
5. Levy duties on all manufactured imports, sufficient for there to be no difference between the price of the import, and domestically produced goods.
6. Strictly enforce standard living wages, heavy fines and jail for violators.
7. Kill Bush''s tax cuts for the rich.

Apply the money saved/recovered/earned to a program to build and staff public hospitals, with publkished prices for procedures. Subsidize med school, in return for a work bond of four years, at reasonable pay.

brianbwb: I still don''t see how this bill has anything to do with private insurance companies. This bill is about providing coverage (government is insurance in this case) for kids that both don''t have and already have insurance. The program in this bill was never about going after insurance companies for business practices, it was about having the government take over for them.

I agree, "regulation" of insurance company practices would have been a great goal, but the money flows too much for that to happen. Both democrats and republicans are bought and paid for.

Wonder if the name dubya or bush will become the new standard of stupidity? Like, Oh sheeeooot, that shore was an ole dubya on Fox''s Cops last night, or they had to let him go after that bush stunt he pulled on the cheese doodle account yesterday. Idiot, Stupid, Blunder, Decision making or Decider, thick skulled, dimwitted, dimbulb, shrub, bush, dubya....will go down in history as did the John, and others before it. The name dubya or bush will go down in history as a name meaning substandard to the max, or a huge blunder. What a legacy!!!!! Hope he is fixed.

Please clarify how the current bill will be inadequate? Posted by tmbuccelli

Because it has no mechanism to prevent insurance companies from colluding to hike prices to take the money while continuing to provide substandard service, or deny it altogether. It is a one sided bill that still lets the insurance companies mark up, falsify, and otherwise embezzle the money without adequate oversight, or auditing.

Besides with the CEOs and upper executives, we are talking what, maybe 1000 people?

Yes the super greedy, who always see a missed opportunity to profit even more as a loss, even when the profit comes from unethical activities like war profiteering, and or insurance scamming, drug distribution, ond many other ills contributing to the demise of the US as a country.

It is this small group of people for whom our children are killing and dying in illegal wars.
