- Slim - the problem I have is with the word "fair". We can all understand the concept but it can''t be applied in real life. Fair is relative to each individual. Socialist systems are created for the purpose of fair distribution of the wealth - and they have always failed. In very small communities it works because each individual is committed to that process. In a system as big as a nation it can''t work due to far to many people who will abuse it for personal gain.
Do I want health care for all Americans - yes. Do I trust any government agency to deliver that - no. And taking money out of peoples pockets to give to a new government agency to have them redistribute some smaller portion is the height of irrational delusion. It hasn''t worked in England over the long run, it doesn''t work in Canada and it isn''t working elsewhere.
I want a debate on this, open and fair discussions but more government oversight is not good. - Reply to this comment
- I call that stereotyping and irrational.

Yah we''ve gotten off subject, a bit. Just like any conversation tends to do, from time to time.

"We have already heard this argument before ...
How am I going to run my cotton plantation without slaves ? Too bad for them. I need them to keep my lifestyle."
That statement implies that anybody who disagrees with having more taken from them to give to others must be:
A - a rich slave holder
B- Wealthy living in luxury
C- Whinney and greedy
I call that stereotyping and irrational. - Reply to this comment

- rhs648/slim1h2o,
Did you guys read the article? It doesn''t appear so from your comments.
The proposal calls for consumer choice. People who are happy with what they have can keep it. The government won''t be controlling what benefits are offered, the competitive market will still do that.
What the proposal does is regulate abuses in the market, such as denying coverage or claims for patients deemed to have "pre-existing conditions".
The insurance companies can currently deny any person or claim they want. That''s what this addresses.
It''s like forcing the Chinese to improve product safety, only in this case the government is forcing the insurance companies to stop endangering public safety by denying coverage and the payment of claims. - Reply to this comment
