j-whitman... I wrote a computer program to calculate the amount of farm land required to make enough ethanol just to replace the auto gas consumed in 2006. It will take every foot of land in all the corn belt states just to break even.

I used 45 miles to the gallon as my baseline for fuel burn and 385 gallons of ethanol per acre of corn. I did not include the fuel for production of the corn or the fuel used in refining to ethanol.

Ethanol as a motor fuel to replace gasoline is a myth.

Katie,

It was only 4 years ago that you and your colleagues were cheerleading the Bush Invasion of Iraq, after having regurgitated the endless LIES that the Bush Administration was telling us about phony WMDs and the fake Al Qaeada links.

Even though two reporters at Knight-Ridder got it right and revealed their LIES before the Invasion, you and your corporate media friends did not do your job and ask the questions or challenge the Cheney/Bush LIES. As a result the NeoCons invaded Iraq in true Hilteresque form - using Lies, Fear, Propoganda, fake Patriotism...

So I am glad you got a chance to witness the death and destruction in Iraq, carnage that you are in part responsible for.

Have you apologized yet for not doing your job, and letting Cheney and Bush get away with their War Crimes?

As much as I hate to admit it, the man was good at his job. He could have spun Clintons B-J into something that would save the lives of millions. I wish him all the best in his battle and the time he has with his family. Not many could show such dedication. It had to be difficult to swim against the tide when the toilet is about to go down the drain.

He must have known the salary when he took the job. It makes me wonder what has changed.

I wish I made $168,000. Let''s see, more than a third of that will go for payroll taxes. Then, housing in the D.C. area, like many metropolitan areas, is amazingly expensive and don''t forget the real estate taxes. Did I read that he has 3 children? Based on his income they''re not going to get financial aid for college ... so how much does he need to put aside there? (These days annual tuition, room & board costs than most of us earn.) Health insurance probably doesn''t pay all of his medical expenses. Also, he needs to be saving for retirement and with the shock of facing cancer I know I would be trying to save some more for my family''s future, just in case. Yes, if he can make more money elsewhere he should do it. I guess I should have said I would like to clear $168,000 after expenses.

Nobody can even stand to be with Bushit and Darth anymore, not even his co-wankers like the *** News crowd. Gee Tony, hope your cancer gets well enough for you to go to bankruptcy court, ya ***!

You guys are COMPLETELY out-of-line to say that Tony is dying. You don''t know that! He looks like anyone else going through cancer treatment, and plenty of folks survive. How dare you to invade his and his family''s privacy and personal space on such a delicate matter.

Yup, you can see it....Tony''s a gonner. Might as well retire. I always thought this guy was completely devoid of personality and spirit, but this is sad to see, nonetheless.
