Parvenu: a person who has recently acquired wealth but not yet the polish and sophistication to use it wisely.
I just looked that word up, when I came across it in Stendhal''s great novel "The Red and the Black" - Reply to this comment

Lt. Cmdr. Charles E. Madison: You American haters bore me to tears, Ms. Barham. I''ve dealt with Europeans all my life. I know all about us parvenus from the States who come over here and race around your old Cathedral towns with our cameras and Coca-cola bottles... Brawl in your pubs, paw at your women, and act like we own the world. We over-tip, we talk too loud, we think we can buy anything with a Hershey bar. I''ve had Germans and Italians tell me how politically ingenuous we are, and perhaps so. But we haven''t managed a Hitler or a Mussolini yet. I''ve had Frenchmen call me a savage because I only took half an hour for lunch. Hell, Ms. Barham, the only reason the French take two hours for lunch is because the service in their restaurants is lousy. The most tedious lot are you British. We crass Americans didn''t introduce war into your little island. This war, Ms. Barham to which we Americans are so insensitive, is the result of 2,000 years of European greed, barbarism, superstition, and stupidity. Don''t blame it on our Coca-cola bottles. Europe was a growing brothel long before we came to town.

I hear that''s going to be Sgt. Dave Karsnia''s next assignment.
Hanging out in the Oval Office disguised as a plump female intern, to arrest lusting presidents. - Reply to this comment
- I think the Republicans should start pushing a Constitutional amendment that defines an extra-marital affair as "between one man and one woman."
They could call it "The Defense of Hypocracy" amendment! - Reply to this comment

He didn''t get in trouble ?????
I''d hate to see what real trouble is like. - Reply to this comment
- I just noticed the exact Hillary Clinton quote in the story.
I was quoting from memory, but fairly accurately.
"I think it''s a very sad story," said Sen. Hillary Clinton, asked about Craig as she appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman" Thursday. "I''m just wishing the best for him and his family. I think obviously the Republicans, and the voters of Idaho, will make a decision about his future." - Reply to this comment
- You have got to be kidding me! This is rediculous! The President of the United States can have *** with someone in the oval office and he doesn''t get in trouble for that but a senator touches someone''s "foot" in the bathroom stall next to him and he the world is ready to hang him? People, move on!

- "For the most part, Democrats studiously avoided involvement with an unfolding Republican scandal."
e.g. Hillary Clinton on Dave Letterman last night. (Hillary might have personal reasons not to start lecturing on this topic, however...)
Dave asked her, "What''s up with Larry Craig ?"
After a Cheshire Cat grin that lasted about a minute, Hillary finally said, "This is a very sad story. I wish the best for Senator Craig and his family. Obviously the Republican Party and the people of Idaho will have to make a decision, but I just wish the best for him and his family. It''s very sad." - Reply to this comment

- If you listen to that whole childish exchange between Craig and the cop ("Hear The Police Recording" link above) you have to wonder if this cop couldn''t be doing better things with his time and the taxpayers'' money.

Many are "outraged" by that, who had no problem with a phony destructive war in Iraq that really was shoved down our throats.
Hillary''s health care program was a only a study project. It was not an attempt to circumvent normal legislative avenues for passing laws.
And Mitt Romney has now unveiled a health care reform proposal as well.
But there are "some people" here who would prefer keeping the lousy system we have now, where many millions are without health insurance. - Reply to this comment

Gotcha - the current plan where 47 million Americans have NO HEALTH CARE COVERAGE is better than national health care.
Big pharmacy companies, HMO''s, doctors, and hospitals are making profits in the billions of dollars each year, but 1 out of every 5 people in this country have NO HEALTH CARE COVERAGE.
But illegal aliens can come here and go to an emergency room and never have to worry about paying it back.
Yup - you''re pretty smart there Jethro. - Reply to this comment
- What the hell did Sgt. Dave Karsnia mean when he said to Craig, "I''m disappointed in you. I expect this from the guy we get out of the ''hood, but I voted for you..."
Racist comments like that are a big reason why black people in America often feel they can''t trust cops. - Reply to this comment

What exactly was the "crime according to federal or state code" when Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinsky ? What was the point of asking him under oath ? Looks like someone took a page out of the book of someone else ... - Reply to this comment
