Perhaps if any of you who are so=critical either about any candidate or their plan come up with a better solution or "logical" person to run for Office, we all would like to hear it. If you feel that any politician is worthless then you are free to move to another country. If all you want to do is complain about how bad you have it try moving somewhere else and tell us about that too. It gets so tiring to read comments that are extremely critical and biased as the"CBS" website itself.

It's a matter of practical reality. We have aliens living among us, a few of whom intend to do us serious harm. I.D.

Cards may offend your sense of historical American tradition but there is a new reality today. Most countries in the world do a better job of keeping tabs of their aliens than we do.

More than two decades ago we relaxed our borders and now we're paying the price. Just one more terrorist incident resulting in significant civilian casualties and ID cards for everybody will be a consequence. Although I'm not convinced ID cards are the answer.

Oh come on now, like a US National ID card would in any way equate to Nazi Germany. As stated by Prinzowhales, citizens with passports already do have a national ID. If required to carry them, passports would most definately seperate legal citizens from illegal aliens. What makes a national ID so different than a passport?

This is AMERICA for Gods shake! How far down are we going to let these people drag us before we stand up. Someone needs to take charge who can get our alliances back together and AGRESSIVELY go after those who attacked us. These people can't govern... all they know is Divide and Hate. The problem with that is when you are elected you can't govern. This nation is NEVER going to fully agree but when we start CARDING and SPYING in this nation, we are in SERIOUS trouble and headed in the WRONG way. It's been 6 LONG years since 9/11 and we're talking about having an I.D. CARD!! Sounds to me like we need to be listening to some OTHER voices.

My point here is that it all comes down to enforcement.

And the fact is, No matter how big your database is and how many immigrants are in it, If somone decides they are going to stay in this country illegaly no ID card or Database is going to help you find them.

The immigration issue needs begin with:
1. Secure US borders with Mexico and Canada.
2. Random imspections of any business in an ongoing basis to check for illegal workers.
3. Ask for proof of citizenship when visiting the doctor or hospital. If proof cannot be found bill the person, and turn patient contact information over to Immigration officials.
4. Remove the clause that allows babies born of illegal immigrants to automatically be american citizens.

These are just a few of the steps that need to be taken, because face it, illegal expecting mothers want to have their baby in America so that their child will be a citizen. People come here to work and make money to send to their family in their home country...and if the person is an illegal immigrant the money is tax free.

If we laws are made that will punish employers for employing illegal aliens and have regular random inspections companies will be afraid to hire illegal immigrants. If illegal immigrants can't find a job, why and how would they stay here?

If we remove the motivation for mothers to have their children on american soil why would they come to the US and cost tax payers money to have her child?
