Comments on: Romney Wins Iowa GOP Straw Poll
Ex-Mass. Governor Gets 31% Of Votes, Ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee Comes In 2nd
- He made his money mainly through leveraged buyouts %u2014 essentially, mortgaging companies to take them over in the hope of reselling them at big profits in just a few years. It is a bare-knuckle form of investing that is in the spotlight because of the exploding profits of buyout giants like Bain, Blackstone and the Carlyle Group. In Washington, Congress is considering ending a legal quirk that lets fund managers escape much of the income tax on their earnings.
Romney%u2019s tax policies are still a work in progress. Aides say he was prepared to call for a corporate rate reduction in his Detroit speech and changed his mind. Endorsing a cut in the corporate rate would be controversial: Many Republican activists are more interested in cutting marginal rates for individuals than giving corporations tax breaks.
Romney is studying another political hot potato as well: a cut in the top 35 percent tax rate for high-income taxpayers. - Reply to this comment
- I hated Ronald Reagan. He sucked as a president! He destroyed the economy, ran up huge deficits, ran unemployment up out of sight, gave tax cuts to the rich, traded weapons for hostages and even sold WMD's in the form of chemical and biological weapons to Saddam that he used to slaughter hundreds of thousands of people! He was the 2nd worst president of the modern era, though granted a distant second to the as*shole we have now! He was a god-awful terrible president! Electing anyone like another Reagan or worse another Bush, would be the death of our nation! We could not survive another presidency like either of those two di*ckheads have put us through!
If Romney is ANYTHING like Reagan then that's reason enough to vote AGAINST him! - Reply to this comment
- Mitt is the most viable conservative in the Presidential race and the best qualified to bring new leadership with his vision for America's future. As Michael Reagan has reminded everyone, his beloved father, The Gipper; when Governor of California signed a major pro-abortion piece of legislation before he became our party's greatest conservative and pro-life President. So good people do evolve in their positions on social issues. Gov. Romney has an impressive resume to showcase. When elected governor in 2002 he assumed a monstrous 3 billion dollar deficit and put the state od Massachusetts back in the black without raising taxes. His success in public office mirrors his record in the private sector at Bain Capitol where he reorganized and made household names of companies such as Domino's Pizza and Staples. He also bailed out the U.S. Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002, and turned a profit there for 100 million dollars. I have nicknamed Mitt, "the Rominator", for obvious reasons. Candidate Romney graduated valedictorian in undergrad; then pursued a double degree at Harvard (M.B.A. and law) graduating in the top 5% of his class while doing so. Gov. Romney's record not only reflects his fiscal expertise; but he's also pro-life. As governor, Romney vetoed a bill which would have funded human cloning and the destruction of human embryos.
Our liberal wolfpack press is trying to create a negative sterotype of Mitt but his record is out there and its excellent - Reply to this comment
- Romney is a corporate leech...
He is CFR and New World Order.
He is a waffler and contradicts himself over and over - depending on the audience and the issue.
He a privatizer - a corporate suck off tax dollars issued for education, jails and NATIONAL plans. He's VERY pro - NAFTA. All for "globalization" and no better than we have in office now. He backs putting V chips in our computers and wants EVEN MORE tax cuts for corporation and the rich...
U.S. businesses must globalize or whither away and die.
That's the message Massachusetts' governor and top technology executives said at the Forrester Research executive strategy summit in Boston on Wednesday.
Gov. Mitt Romney, a former Bain Capital venture capitalist who is mulling a presidential run in 2008, said jobs will continue to be lost to emerging economies but U.S. businesses have far more to gain by selling their products into massive markets such as China and India than they risk losing by not participating at all.
He advised CIOs and technology executives to stop worrying about lost jobs and concentrate on innovating globally that will grow jobs here and abroad.

- With Mitt as the GOP nominee the GOP could win in an historic landslide in 2008.

- Huckabee, or even Brownback as the nominee. I think Romney's religious background, no matter how bigoted it is, will be the obstacle he won't be able to overcome. Even among the religious right, Mormons or LDS are outsiders.

..... diverinnl, which every party submits the candidate that is closest to the "center" is going to win in 2008. The Democrats are pretty far to the "left" this election cycle and will probably nominate Hillary. Mitt's pretty close to the "center" and slightly to the right. I believe anyone further to the right of Mitt on the GOP side will get crushed. I do like the idea of a Romney/Huckabee ticket. Mitt needs help with the South and Huckabee can bring in the conservatives. Mitt has a great chance of taking his old state and I believe California with Arnold's help. With Mitt as the GOP nominee the GOP could win in an historic landslide in 2008. - Reply to this comment

- Romney plans to keep the Stupid People's War going...that's enough to *** him in my eyes. I haven't followed Romney's career as governor. I hope I can find time to check it out and discover how he performed in Massechusetts. Fiscal turn arounds like the one you are reporting are certainly worth investigating.

...Prinzowhales, at least you are open minded. Actually Mitt did an interview with the Associated Press in June and stated that he was "against" any permanet US bases in Iraq.
I can tell you his father George Romney, popular 3-term Governor of Michigan in the 1960's was against the war in Vietnam. Mitt's not a real "hawk" he's pretty much a moderate that wants to focus on "domestic" issues by growing the American economy and doing something about the low graduation rates of public schools in America's inner cities.
Visit Mitt's website www.mittromney.com On the right side is Mitt TV which are short film clips. - Reply to this comment
- perception5-I voted for Reagan, after getting out of the active military, with Jimmy Carter as CiC. I regretted it almost immediately after he took office--but I wouldn't have voted for his Democratic opponent under any circumstances and if Ron Paul doesn't get the Republican nod, I'm going to vote Third Party...unless a miracle gives Gravel or Kucinich the Democratic nomination.

- If Americans liked Ronald Reagan they are going to love Mitt Romney.
Mitt Romney is a solid candidate. He has accomplished more than any other candidate out there in his career so far. 1. Took apart failing companies and put them back to together again...............2. Took the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics games that were 369 million in debt with massive corruption and pulled off one of the most incredible "turn a rounds" three months after 9/11................3. Became Governor of the bluest state in the Union with a projected $3 billion deficit and balanced the budget WITHOUT RAISING TAXES...............4. Brought private health insurance to every citizen in Massachusetts WITHOUT RASIING TAXES..... There simply isn't ANYONE as qualified to run as this man. If our corrupt liberal press wants to "nick pick" and create a "negative" stereotype of this man this so be it. ALL the other candidates running for President "TALK" about what they will do........Mitt Romney has already WALKED THE WALK. He has actually DONE things. Mitt would make a great President for All Americans.... - Reply to this comment
