was instead, spent on some boondoggle light-rail mass-transit system that hardly anybody uses.

And, the Government of Minnesota had a 2.1 Billion dollar budget surplus last year.

I put the blame squarely on the Government of Minnesota. They've known about this since the 90's.

Also, one must consider that many of the European countries are more or less socialistic, so consequently, involved with their taxes are:
health care, shorter work weeks, longer vacations, retirements benefits. There is more involved than just paying more taxes on a gallon of gas. At this point, our taxes on a gallon of gas is not paying for what the taxes were originally intended for.

Let's also not forget that the Cheney energy bill gave them over $15 billion dollars in tax cuts last year too. As Jon Stewart said it appears to be part of the Bush plan to give the oil companies so much money that they might give some back out of pure embarrassment.

Other people have the right to come to a clean and cuss free forum. You have the responsibility to use that freedom of speech responsibly and have to use the self-discipline to filter out your emotions which are expressed through expletives. Congress should not fall into the campaign sloganing from the corrupt right nor allow them to set the agenda for our Candidates, they tried this failed with the last boogey man evil Dems will eat your children raise your taxes routine with the amnesty immigration bill their cheerleader President Bush was supposedly pushing.

There is a so called "Hiway Trust Fund"... had it been left alone by a mostly democratic controlled congress for years and years...there would be gobwads of money to keep the highway infrastructure maintained properly... however it and the Social Security trust fund are loaded with "IOU's" and not much else.
