We should borrow the money from China like we're doing to pay for Bush's Iraq boondoggle. We already owe them over a trillion dollars. What's another billion or so? CHARGE IT!

Bush is a sick fascist who belongs in JAIL.

This "Christian" (don't believe it!) spends $500 BILLION on a needless horrific WAR based on lies. He will give MASSIVE tax cuts to the already filthy rich. He runs up a huge national debt (conservative? what a JOKE!). He refuses to spend anything on children's health care our nations infrastructure, or ANY OTHER peaceful cause!

What is Wrong with my Country!! What is up with the slimy sleazy spineless complicit complacent coporate-owned Democrats, who won't impeach these murderous thugs??

Now I can really see how Hilter did it. Scare people, lie to people, wave the flag of patriotism. The people will roll over like sheep, closing their eyes and crying 'Protect us, Protect us, do whatever you need to do to - just protect us'

JAIL BUSH JAIL CHENEY

Congress and local govt. can't get anything done no matter how much money we give them. They'll spend tens of millions on studies that are obsolete by the time they get them. What happend to the nickel or more gas tax we're already paying to support infrastructure. What diversity study did that go to?

... pastdue1 ... I can visualize the kinds of torque we could create: reviving a speculative interest in utilizing the railway system as an alternative means for large/heavy mass shipment of goods, while the highway system is being retrofited for the projected usage to come. It would mean immediate/urgent examination of the rail system to determine usage feasability and simultaneous introduction of Dept. of Transportation & Commerce getting the American Trucking Association cooperation/imput for cost effective supply chain solutions, that will benefit the nation, their means of livelihood, and possibly even bring down the gasoline use/expenditures they will have, to accommodate detours off highways being maintained. The schedules imposed on trucker's today to meet deadlines is another factor that could be improved on if their supply line runs were shortened; they would have more "turnaround gigs" and stay closer to home base. All the other systems now in place that supports the trucking industry would not be displaced.
Your "wondering why ... coupled with your restrained but logical comments writing could get some people thinking in a focused direction and add to the momentum we are creating by acknowledging a viable solution while the states and powers to be and those that exist get their ducks in a row. I feel you are capable of shaking cobwebs off thinking caps with your discerning comments and thank you for your response.

If they can't keep a few bridges up for 1 trillion a year, I doubt they can do it for 2 trillion, or whatever the terrorists who run our nation are demanding now. Maybe we should swap our current terrorists out of office and take Bin Laden as president, what is the worst he could do. He would blow up a few bridges, maybe ruin a few cities like New Orleans, spy on Americans, open our borders to Mexican enemies, and fight endless personal religious wars, but my guess is he'll do it a lot cheaper. Say for 500 billion, a savings of half.

Can't say Bin Laden would do worse as far as what the People want. Our Dictator has just flat told us what WE the PEOPLE want doesn't matter. Guess there's not a lot of difference then huh? Sieg Heil Bush!!

One of the figures I saw said that it would cost less than $200b to fix ALL the bridges in the U.S. and the was in Iraq has cost us almost $500b.

The Army Corp told the Bush administration that it would cost $14b to fix the levies and outer islands in the New Orleans area years before Katrina happened and nothing was done.

You can talk about priorities, but tax breaks for the rich and a war in Iraq seem to take a MUCH higher priority than any of these other items.

The tax money is there already...we don't need to raise any, we just need to hold our representatives accountable for how they spend it. The American people allowed this to happen, and should fix it.

Now I know a fascist like yourself has a very hard time understanding things... I mean Rush TELLS you what people mean and what they stand for I'm sure, but the LAST time I checked the Fascist Party had run us into debt and had a deficit from day one of the Bush Dictatorship. Now if I'm wrong on this one let me know where but IF the Tax Money WAS there then why in H-E-LL did the fascist allow our people to borrow money from the Communist in China, who are threatening us right now with that FACT. It appears to me that you fascist have sold the country out and now are trying to shift blame. Sorry it won't work. Sieg Heil Bush. Come on Sparky help me out here, click those heels together and give us a bit SIEG HEIL!! Thanks. ROFLMAO

Our state government in NM is bloated with too many people with nothing to do. Reason? Worthless managers that have no right being managers, frequently there because they fvcked over someone during a vindictive previous administration, thus their reward: HAPLESS STATE MANAGER! Pathetic, eh?

That would cause a major spike in unemployment. Anybody who takes a road trip on our interstates can see how many truckers are employed, even if a 50 mile trip.

On top of that (not that I care personally) you'd have people crying their eyes out because they have to wait at more railroad crossings to get to the mall.

I personally don't think trucks are the base problem. The roads / bridges are supposed to be made with trucks and other heavy equipment in mind. The original reason FOR the interstate system was so that the Army could mobilize faster and more efficiently. Heavy travel should be considered the prime factor in designing these portions of the infrastructure.

It's plainly obvious that this happened due to human neglect for 17 years.

Public Safety comes first, fix the Bridges and figure out who pays for it later, there doesn't seem to be a problem using this logic to fight the war in Iraq!

. . .This chaotic scenario is results of abandonment/downplay of a past great workable transportation infrastructure by confining our mass movement network primarily to highways.
Posted by TAWilliams01 at 03:55 PM : Aug 09, 2007

I agree with you about utilizing our vast railroad system and have often wondered why we have not done so. If most long distance shipping were done by railroad, can you imagine how this would save highways ~ and bridges. Those oversized loads on our highways could be eliminated. And, since the government continues to suppliment the railroad industry, why not get something for it.
I cannot agree with you in your support for the present administration, but I do appreciate you literacy and always read your posts because they reflect the thought that has gone into them. And like Thomas Jefferson, "I will fight to the death for your right to disagree"

I can personally atest to the amount of money wasted in just a few commands in the NAVY, so I can't imagine how much is wasted overall by the government, not even considering the almost trillion blown on Iraq.

Though I can't stand him and can't wait for him to leave office, I have to agree with Bush on this one. Stop wasting money congress, and spend it like it should be spent. Only 8% of federal road cash is spent on fixing roads, the rest sent to the states to blow as they see fit. There has to be some oversight or controls in place, else the pork will keep hittin' the trough.

I'm not saying Bush is the example, but I agree with the idea.
