VICTORY AT ALL COSTS!!!

I would say to the House, as I said to those who have joined this Government: 'I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.' We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I can say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. Winston Churchill Speech in the House of Commons, after taking office as Prime Minister (13 May 1940) This has often been misquoted in the form: "I have nothing to offer but blood, sweat and tears..."

Thank you for the FACTUAL information. I had no idea what the number was, but I knew it was no where near 650k.

And if it was 650k, you know what I would call that? A good start.

Oh Really? No parallel? This apology sounds vaguely like Whittington's apology to the Cheney family after Dead eye *** shot him in the face. The parallel is uncannily accurate as are the way too numerous other parallels including the very distinct fact that the Military Industrial Complex seems to control Congress. By the way, Business and Government being one and the Same (Cheney/Halliburton, Carlyle and Congressmen) is the EXACT definition of Fascism....wait for the knock on your door coming soon, and the congressmen and women who oppose this Administration look out for the "Night of the Long Knives". Chertoff's stomach has good reason to be rumbling as another 911 is on it's way since it's becoming all to obvious what these guys are about. Then it's no constitution at all and no elections in 08. Police state is already here just not being exercised. Things are very, very bad....

Hey - let's agree to disagree, okay? The main thing is that Halliburton and Cheney are making bank. That makes it all worthwhile, doesn't it? The dead, mangled and homeless aren't our concern. Not even when they are our own.

This is shameless.

I worked for the DOD. Remember Vietnam? We "fudged on those numbers too. 70,000 might be the number of Americans INJURED but doesn't even come close to the number if Iraqi dead. Besides NOBODY talks about the 4 million Iraqi REFUGEES either.

It's called the NEWS. Turn off Rush and listen occasionally. Oh yeah and we REALLY HAVE LOST OVER 3600 true American heroes in this RICH PROFITEERS DIVERSION FROM GEORGE'S PAL - BIN LADEN. Good scare shot with the new Al Queda Video release from their rebuilt Afghanistan RESORT.

infidel_us, it's been 650,000 for 2 years now on the left wing blogs. I don't even pay attention to it anymore. The actual number is just under 70,000 (American, Iraqi, and all other nationalities combined) since the invasion. That is from the DoD and the UN. Sadam gassed more Kurds with the chemical weapons that he didn't have.

If we're trying to lay parallels here, why not compare 9/11 to Pearl Harbor? Wouldn't that be a more realistic parallel or is it to inconvienient for the run and hide argument from the far left?
Posted by diverinnl at 12:33 PM : Jul 18, 2007

The only comparison I see is that both occurred on U.S. soil. The enemy was no mystery nor where they were located. The enemy was completely open to there whereabouts.

The world trade center was destroyed, intelligence info pointed to the taliban in afghanistan. The U.S. went there. A few months later Bush is saying he doesn't care where Osama is. By this time the U.S. has destabilized Iraq after finding no WMDs, a reason to invade. To date there is no intelligence information willing to commit in a factual concrete way that Iraq posed a threat to the United States.

A much better comparison exists with the WWII/nazi era parallel. A situation was exploited for another unrelated objective.

homespunlady, I see your comparison there. I'll give you that one. Also, sosyomomma has some good counter points as well. When he makes statements like "I am the decider!", even I step back and think "Well no, I am. I'm a voter."

Good arguments guys!

"I believe that they have exploited the fears that grew from 9/11, in order to pass legislation and even start wars they could have never gotten away with but for that tragedy," he said.

It would have been the same fears espoused by Gore, both Clintons, Kerry, and the rest of the usual two-faced suspects.

In truth, the UN mandate gave us the authority to do what we did...regardless of 9/11. And besides, he's wrong.

After WW I the German people were stuck with reparation for inciting that war. Their life became even worse when the currency was devalued - a lot less controlled but similar to some extent to the American dollar's drop recently - it took a while before they realized how their country's economic problems were affecting them and it made them ripe for Fascism (also known as Corporatism). The fascists a"rescued" the economy by starting a war with a country that they believed did them wrong and justified it by saying GOD WAS ON THEIR SIDE. Watch some of the original Nazi propaganda. It's eerily familiar.
It wasn't until the hardcore fascist Germans were losing that they got second thoughts.
