- All we did was punt the ball not score! Great Job America! We should of passed the Bill!

You wanted them here (you may even be one) so if they won--you should be happy. The tenor of your posts indicate you are anything but. The facts are the invasion never would have stopped anyway. What we know (and suspect you know) is that the illegals STILL have no protection, they can be deported, jailed, etc just for being in a country they broke the laws to enter--so they are still on the hook. This is good from the American standpoint in that if needed, we can point them out, have them arrested and removed from a job site. This could not be done if they were legal. especially in the case of recession and a need for all those low paying jobs by Americans--this is a good back up. that may seem unfair--but people who break laws to benefit themselves, can't expect fair. They forfeited fairness when they decided they were above or beneath the laws of this country. - Reply to this comment
- Wow, 54 pages on this subject!!
As a Democrat I applaud the successful efforts of the Republicans in Congress to stop this rampant give away of America. Bush seems to want to give this country away to China, Mexico, India, and Saudi Arabia while saying to hell with those of us who still need to live and work here.
I don't know what the Democrats in Congress plan to get from this, perhaps millions of new votes from poor to lower middle class Mexicans. - Reply to this comment
- Now, how did they all vote (by party, by state)?
Posted by gunnerv1 at 08:21 AM : Jun 29, 2007
They voted by individual. Keep in mind that almost a third of Democrats voted NO. The Senate only gained 1 more vote than the did the first time it was shot down. they like to portray this as a Republican victory and the Dems as all for, but it has been acknowldeged that even among Democrats this bill was unpopular and there were bitter divisions. The fact is, we want to be considered first as citizens and have our laws enforced; while many want the cheap labor trains to continue and the rest of you just want the people here for your own reasons. But the majority do not want to inherit up to 20 million more people--with no end in sight, and since ALL Americans would have to pay in money and social conditions for making them legal (which means when recessions come they would all be entitled to welfare and other services) All Americans have a differing view than the bleeding hearts and relatives of the illegals. We don't need new, legal burdens--thank you very much. - Reply to this comment
- Some are suggesting we all fall for the "okie doke" you know---that ploy where gullible people are told one thing (because they are gullible and too trusting) and right in their face another thing is done? No thanks. We are on to the games and lies--maybe we can talk about amnesty AFTER the 800+ miles is up and running and the laws are actually enforced. We can even determing if building the fence is even effective and maybe save some money.
What is apparent to all Americans is that it is NOT the security of the borders or anything approaching it that pro-immigrants really want; it is the amnesty. Because even when offered a staggered choice to kick amnesty in later--that was a no go. Nope You all want your 12 to 20 million in--and the fence and law enforcement--that is just a carrot for everyone else that none of you plan to really honor. When the amnesty of the millions is paramount you send a very clear message of what you realy want and the rest---just sugar to make the medicine go down. But as I said, we can look at what already was passed and NOT done and in fact was de-funded by Bush to know how this particular game is played.
You would think, with the rising momentum in Americans AGAINST this bill, that those of you arguing your points would understand they are not very good points and in fact, elicit even more negative reaction. Try a new song. - Reply to this comment
- This Bill would of secured the borders. That was part of the bill, remember. It would have leagalized 12 million immigrants. Posted by penskeone at 09:56 AM : Jun 29, 2007
Many would still live in the shadows--they'd just be legal and untouchable.
the bill would not have secured the borders, it would have given lip service to securing the borders and since part of the bill was that anyone illegal here when it passed would get amnesty, there was a guaranteed stampede sure to ensue.
In 2005, the 109th Congress passed a bill to fund over 800 miles of border. Already PASSED. so far 13 miles have been completed, and there are cameras showing illegals prying openings in the corrugated metal frameworks and coming through in droves. In fact, you can see this for yourself in the CBS video on the failure of the immigration bill. Airing right now. - Reply to this comment
- What was going to be accomplished if it did pass??? Except to have 12 million more mouths to feed? We would have had 20 million more undocumented workers if it had passed! You people just don't get it do you? Everytime you cave in to their wants more of them flood across the border. Ten years down the road we are going to be asked to give them amnesty again! This has happened 7 times now since 1986. They haven't enforced the laws that were proposed in 1986! So where do people like you figure this is going to be any different??????

This Bill would of secured the borders. That was part of the bill, remember. It would have leagalized 12 million immigrants. Would you rather them live in the shadows? I would rather know who they are and what they are doing. It is not Amnesty FOOL. It's a reform bill. These illegals would pay fees and back taxes. 12 million more people paying taxes. The problem would be solved. How would you be feeding them? Immigrants do not qualify for welfare or foodstamps. We do? Worthless Petty Americans Draining our sytem. - Reply to this comment
- You Guys Are A Bunch of Fat-bellied racist rednecks who don't have a life! You think you won yesterday. Nothing got accomplished! If anything the illegals won because by the next time these Senators vote, we will have 20 million undocumented workers in our country. All we did was punt the ball not score! Great Job America! We should of passed the Bill!

- Ozilot 6:40 a.m.----You are so right and I sent a e-mail this morning to my senator stating what I felt was needed and to check the 1986 bill sec274a and listed my priorities and everyone should do just that now. Border and PORTS which ports are never mentioned which is upsetting to me look what China is getting through now. If Secretary Chertoff who has the money cannot secure this country he needs to resign before it is too late and put someone in there that is not a kiss azz for Bush and has this safety of this country foremost in there mind. Companies, social agenceis, schools, construction, driver branches, to make it a felony to hire aid or abet an illegal in any way. Toldyouso had some great ideas last night and I stole a lot of her great ideas so I give her all the credit. Take your Country Back!!!!

First they tried to put too much trash into this bill, nobody in their right mind would agree with all of that garbage. The more ***** that they added, the more that there is to object too.
Secondly they need to fully close the mexican border, and that is very easy.
Use our military reserve forces effectively. Let them spend a day placing 5 million land mines, scattered every few feet, on our side of the Mexican border. After only one night of fireworks ... ******* PROBLEM SOLVED.- Reply to this comment

For me this issue was never about race! I could care less if the illegals were red, blue or green or even Aliens from Mars! Get off the race issue and stop playing the tired old race card, its pathetic. This issue is about legal American status versus illegal American status and thats all. If legal Hispanics support illegal Hispanics because of culture and not the law then are Hispanics in the U.S. truly real Americans?
I read this post on another website. This is excerpt from a speech by Theodore Roosevelt is 1907, his ideas on Immigrants and on being an AMERICAN: "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." - Reply to this comment
- Have these PUSHERS of this legislation actually read or comprehended that there were TWO opinions and two set of concerns, or are they just DEAF to our words?
The dems are *** up - I know MANY who have switched sides because of the ignorance and obvious disregard for the concerns of citizens. I have YET to hear ONE address what their plan for a north american union (which is ALL this is) - will cost THE FLAILING MIDDLE CLASS TAXPAYER. Not ONE whimper for us who would have the most to lose - our jobs and our taxdollars to float millions of low paying (and welfare receiving) guests.
We have bellowing and more hands reaching into our public funds - we have minorities demanding and unappreciating what I have to offer. We have rights for "black-americans" and "native-americans" and "cuban-americans" and mexican-americans. We have expanded special interests to "asian-americans" and tip toed around the feelings of "muslim-americans". We have been VERY good to our immigrants and tried to give them ADVANTAGES to make it in this country- educations, free healthcare, housing - food etc..
but it never seems to be enough for the pandering of our "new world order" politicians.
Everyone is special in America and "deserving".
I would like a label for those of us who are just the "worker" bees that provide fodder for all these politicians lobbying and pandering to foreign cheap labor. - Reply to this comment
- To tbweb and others like him/her:
The reasons why it failed were:
1. Distortions like the ones you write.
2. Hate radio hates illegal immigrants. One
in Phoenix even calls for their murder.
3. Auto Robot calls to the Senators.
The list goes on and one.
In 2006, the House bill sponsored by Rep. Sessenbrenner and other Republicans resulted in the Democrats taking Congress. In 2008, the Hispanic bloc will remember which senators killed this immigration bill and vote againist them. After 11/2008, the GOP will no longer be a major party. - Reply to this comment
- I have a message for the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants trespassing in the United States and why I am in opposition to your invasion of our sovereign nation! In simple terms, imagine you are standing in a long slow frustrating check out line at a store. Adding to your frustration you glance over and see available registers and available clerks standing on the side chatting instead of opening up the available registers and speeding you along your way! To make matters even worst, 12 million people suddenly illegally jump in front of you pushing you so far back in the check out line you end up outside the store and into another State!! The action of the U.S. Senate today took those 12 million people who illegally jumped in front of you out of line and restored you to your original placement. Its really as simple as that! Most of you will not leave the U.S. and will continue to stay in the U.S. illegally, continuing to break our laws, but the defeat of this FRANKENSTEIN legislation also has the additional benefit of restoring America's kids to their rightful positions in overcrowded school districts across the U.S., because even if schools accept illegal students despite their status, spaces will have to go to legal American students first and illegal students will only be able to attend if additional room is available, the point is illegal kids no longer have equal benefits to education or bumping rights on a first come, first serve basis over legal American kids!

Re: "It's typical greed, so screw you Obrador and the rest of your frickin' corrupt gov't!"
It is Calderon who occupies the Presidential seat in Mexico.
Obrador was most likely the person who was legitimately elected to the office, but the corporate elite apparently used various election fraud techniques and repression efforts, and installed their guy, Calderon.
Sound familiar? - Reply to this comment
