This means that it does not stop and it cannot be contained by borders or laws.

I wouldn't be too sure. East Germany did a VERY good job of it. And that was a pretty long wall, as well.

One of the issues both sides must accept is that migration is DYNAMIC not finite. I think a lot of us know this--but many never thought about it. This means that it does not stop and it cannot be contained by borders or laws.

I am saying this, due to some suggesting we assimilate Mexico (as if they would all stay in that "state" then. And Bush claiming they can become citizens by taking their place at the end or the legal immigration line (though he stopped saying that) there IS NO END to the line---no matter what 12 to 20 million were going to cut in front of someone.

The point is--think this through because this is not remotely over and the pro-immigrants are right when the say, the problem AND the numbers are growing daily.

We MUST demand physical barriers, state and Federal law enforcement and really some sort of tamperproof id so that those without it can be deported eventually. Without those things, one day the amount in will overwhelm the amount that are legal. and due to how our gov and part of America works--legal or illegal, they will flood our social and health and education system, making them more derilect than they already are.

say, to hell with it, If Mexicans want the benefits of living in the U.S. so bad, lets dissolve their government, allow them some seats in Congress and allow them to elect a state Governor. At least Mississippi will be able to lose it's status as the poorest state in the union.

Of course you aren't serious--but still. Really!!! Just imagine the corruption, crime, sexual/human slavery, the healthcare issues, the many diseases, the sanitation and the fact that as a state they are entitled to swarm anywhere in America they want AND we could all get to pay BILLIONS in taxes for their health care, education etc. What makes you think they would stay in Mexico if you made them a state? They'd be anywhere in America they wanted to be and then some--and there would be nothing you could do about it, except maybe learn Spanish and get rid of the notion of the suburban lawn.

So, it was very sucessful and I am very proud to have been a part of it. And as the hippocratic oath says, "first, do no harm", not having this amnesty bill is FAR better than having it.

Hispanics are more inclined to join the GOP...Posted by ozilot at 06:40 AM : Jun 29, 2007

well, first...since I am an Independent, I could care less which party most join--BUT you are wrong. Nice try to scare or shame the GOP. The fact is, most Hispanics ARE conservative BUT are also in love with Social programs like WIC and free school lunches and title XX for free child care and HUD for cheap housing. If they were legal--they could avail themselves of all of that more freely instead of just in a few states.

Here is a well known fact: Democrats favor, protect and promote social programs that aid and assist poor people. due to the low paying jobs being done by illegals, they NEED these programs and welcome them.

Republicans favor little to no help in Social programs and more of a help yourself or sink or swim policy.

So even though many have convictions that are more in line with Republicans (like on abortion) they will choose Democrat, because given the choice between their bellies and all the freebies and their convictions--they will toss them aside just as fast as they do our laws that say they should not be here illegally.

It is really very simple: they came for a better life--by hook or by crook. The Republican way does not make it easier for them--who in the hell would vote for a group that may take away the few chances illegals and the other poor have to get by or save? (their view).

All we did was punt the ball not score! Great Job America! We should of passed the Bill!
Posted by penskeone at 08:57 AM : Jun 29, 2007

I disagree. I think we showed that Americans CAN be involved in the political process (besides voting), and we can make our voices heard!

Somehow, these elected losers up in DC have lost touch with the rank and file American who put them there. They got their tree shook but GOOD!

So, it was very sucessful and I am very proud to have been a part of it. And as the hippocratic oath says, "first, do no harm", not having this amnesty bill is FAR better than having it.

With Bush pushing this bill so hard, it kinda makes me wonder how many illegals are working on his ranch in Crawford right now?

To ramos937 and others like him/her:

The reasons why it failed were:

1. The message for--was weak, self serving and did NOT consider most Americans first

2. It was a bad bill and a regurgitation of the 1986 promises (that were never kept)

3. The 1986 failure and promises that were never kept

4. Talk radio, blogs and TV that let many Americans learn about this issue or see that what they were experiencing was not unique

5. George Bush

6. Ted Kennedy

7. That Americans felt a huge disconnect between what was wanted by us and what was in the bill

8. The fact that the border security was all lies and most knew it and exposed it

9. Bush's idiocy in trying to bribe us with theoretical money for something he already defunded once and had never built

10. A lot of the pro-bloggers on these sites who not only failed to make their case, but were so childish and/or venal, they drove more moderate Americans into the "against" camp and even encouraged them to call their Congressmen

11. Most Americans just do not want this and the 13 % and the 20 million illegals that do--are not enough to outweigh everyone else.

I, for one, am glad to see the bill die. Now before you start jumping up and down on me, let me say this. I don't have a problem with immigrants, hell most of my family came here from Ireland (legally). What I do have a problem with is the ILLEGAL portion of this. How many millions of people came to this country LEGALLY, following the rules sent forth by this country, learned English, worked, paid taxes, served this country during war, and made a better life for themselves and their families? Why should we allow 20 million people to stay when they didn't follow the rules, haven't learned English, don't pay taxes, haven't served this country, and have the nerve to whine and gripe that they are being treated unfairly!

And to set the record straight, they are eligible and do receive food stamps and medical care. I think they should be sent back to their home countries with the proper paperwork in hand, allow them to apply legally, then make the determination if they are eligible or not. If they are, then they can come here LEGALLY, follow the rules, work, pay taxes, serve this country during war, and make a better life for themselves.
