California Gov. Says Immigrants Should Shun Spanish-Language Media To Learn English
- For extended stays in Mexico, you must apply for the Visitors permit (usually an FM3) through your company and state what the purpose of the visit is, and how long it is likely to take. There are also some forms to fill out and a handling fee to pay. You can download the forms, and find out the latest fees and process by contacting your local Mexican Consulate. Visitor's Permits are issued for up to one year, and are renewable four times, for a maximum of one year each time - for a total maximum period of five years. See more information on Immigration Permits below.

In general, foreign nationals are welcome to visit Mexico for a defined period of time to take part in non-remunerative activities (e.g. a holiday), and requirements for remunerative visits or longer stays (beyond 180 days) require special permits from the Mexican Consulate.
There are two kinds of permit: Non-Immigrant and Immigrant:
Non Immigrant Permits are for people who intend to visit Mexico for a specific purpose and then depart.
Immigrant Permits are for people who wish to live in Mexico, short or long term.
You do not have to surrender your natural Citizenship to be granted full resident status in Mexico. Full resident status entitles you to all rights and benefits of a Mexican National (live, work, claim state benefits and to pay taxes) but you cannot vote in Mexican elections. These permits may also prohibit work in specific industries. These are limited, and relate to bar and waiter/waitress work.- Reply to this comment

Hey Rudy,
Is this supposed to be Italian? Because if so, it doesn't translate very well and I'm can't interpet what you are trying to say besides once again calling someone a racist who clearly is not. Maybe you should come up with a more appropriate insult. - Reply to this comment
- Including the USA I've lived/worked in 90 countries, and ONLY the USA permits broadcasting in a foreign language. I learned over 30 languages pretty much the way the Austrian-born Governor of California learned English as he was trying to point out to media representatives, who instantly labeled him a "racist" because he dared to suggest foreigners learn English if they plan living in the USA. (1) eliminate any broadcasting except in English, (2) defeat Mr. Bush's S.1348 "Senate" Corporate Welfare and Amnesty proposals, (3) arrest, fine, and jail officers, managers, and companies employing illegal aliens (4) cut off Federal funds of any sort to a city, police department or any other State or local entity not cooperating fully with ICE, (5) cut off Federal tax-exempt status for any and all religious organizations (so as no controversy which ones offer "sanctuary" or meddle in or frustrate ICE or local enforcement, or otherwise preach politics from the pulpit), (6) ENFORCE ALL OTHER CURRENT LAWS.

Thank you for noticing I'm Italian! Actually I'm not racist, but I definitely don't like some people based on their attitude. Whatever race they are is not even considered. If you don't like that tuff ***!! You, I don't like! - Reply to this comment
- I believe the Governor was just trying to say that, if you are here, try to learn the native language to get by. He was giving advice based on his experience as an immigrant himself.
It has nothing do with the governor's background who his daddy was, nor the color of any skin.
Does your Dad's sin's reflect who you are?? Anyhoo-- :0}
Actually, it is refreshing to hear someone of any party give advice,to immigrants. Go figure,it is someone that has been there and done that! - Reply to this comment
- I have a daughter-in-law that has been here for 20+ years. She is a spanish speaking individual and refuses to get her citizenship. She came from a household that attended spanish speaking schools, had to attend ESL classes at her high school and could not communicate in English when she married my son. From what I have observed, her attitude is pretty much across the board for most Hispanic immigrants. By the way, her student VISA was expiring, so she got herself pregnant so she could stay in this country. She has made life not pleasant for my son, including sending money without his knowledge back to her "HOME".

- Silly- very silly. Yes, anyone who expects to stay in the USA needs to learn the language but that doesn't mean they have to give up who they are and were they come from.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is wrong- they can learn the language AND watch television which presents entertainment and news in their native tongue. Maybe he wasn't smart enough to do both but I bet most people can.
If he said they need to do all they can to learn English and become more immersed into American culture, that would be one thing. To say they need to not watch Spanish language television is ridiculous.
The US is only major industrial power that doesn't require learning a second language. Most of those students that come here seem to do quite well and I bet they watched/listened to TV and audio in their native tongue back home.
That tells you that even the people the governor was speaking of can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time once they apply themselves to the task.
Another Reich Publican spewing silly stupid statements- haven't we come to expect this from that party more and more? - Reply to this comment
- I have been through sections of LA and El Paso where people cannot speak or understand English.
They cannot speak or understand English.
It's appalling. - Reply to this comment
