Comments on: NRA, Democrats Team Up To Pass Gun Bill
After Virginia Tech Shootings, House Passes Bill To Strengthen National Background Check System
- I am an owner of several guns, including the "evil assault weapons" feared by Democrat politicians, and am a gun rights advocate. However, I also believe that mentally crazy lunatics should not be allowed to possess them. The NRA is right in supporting this law.

- Lately, news that I have read, seen or heard as shown an increase in "out of control" people behind the wheel of a automobile wreaking havoc. It is not inanimate objects that cause so much destruction it is people. The sooner you realize that the better. You can't keep passing laws banning this and that and not address the serious issues, namely why are there more incidents of people losing it. When people have no regard for their own lives much less someone else, society suffers.

The irony is that at that time, a veto-proof majority won't be needed anymore. - Reply to this comment
- Your only hope is to bury the gun, renounce it forever, and be men. People who support guns are really cowards because it helps them hide behind their barrel of violence.

You sir (or madam) have no concept of Freedeom, Responsibility, or Manhood. You are a sniveling coward waiting for the Nanny State to tell you when to get up, eat, go to work, what to do, and when to defecate, (usually in your posts)! You are disgusting to real Men. That's why you and those like you can't lead real lives and must spend your spare time attacking those of us who ARE real. Back into your pen Sheep. - Reply to this comment

WOW, this guy is living in fantasyland. Last evening polls showed only 24% thought the country was heading the right direction. Afer ten years of congesssional control and 7 years of total republican control, its easy to figure out which party was leading this country. While the Senates approval numbers are also bad, I feel its directly related to the newly elected democratic majority's lack of ablility to stop this war. We have to remember that unless the Senate has a 60 member majority, a presidential veto cannot be overriden. Let's work to insure the democrats have that 60 member majority at the end on 08. Do you know what years and years of drinking water contaminated with the pill does to a man? Huh? It makes him want.. It makes him need.. It makes him the envy of the world. - Reply to this comment

- The more I think about it, the more sense it makes.
The real problem with gun ownership is not the mentally ill. It is the users of alcohol. Beer consumption is involved in most firearm related homicides.
It's the same with automobiles.
Why not require every driver and every gun owner to affirm in writing, under penalty of perjury, that he or she currently abstains from alcohol, and then if he or she ever decides to start using alcohol again, he or she will first voluntarily surrender driving license and/or firearms and gun license ?
This would requires at most a slight modification to the 2nd Amendment, not its repeal. It would be beneficial to the American public in any number of ways. - Reply to this comment

Apples and oranges.
A car is seldom consciously used as a weapon.
It would be more logical to ask why anyone who is not a strict teetotaler, and who does not declare in writing on penalty of perjury that he or she never touches alcohol, is allowed to have a driving license.
Now that would be a valid comparison, as alcohol users behind the wheel create a true slaughter on America's highways every year. - Reply to this comment
- Those Iraqis? Man, I envy those folks. No more Law? No more Nancy Grace? No more CNN liberal commentary? What could be better?

You fascist have always hated our freedoms haven't you? Freedom of Press??? Only if the Party approves? There has got to be at least 20 or better Nazi News Outlets that is FULLY approved and supported by the Fuhrer and the Party, yet YOU want to bash CNN or anyone else who doesn't print what the PARTY and the Fuhrer want's. Maybe you should try being an AMERICAN Sparky and thus stand up for the freedom of ALL to print and speak what they believe? Is that asking to much of you Fascist? You don't HAVE to listen to them... You don't HAVE to read it... just DO NOT try to stop ME from doing it. Simple? Sieg Heil!! - Reply to this comment
- With as many people that are killed or left pementaly disabled by a vehicle why are we not making sure that nobody that has mental illness can buy, own or be in the possesion of a vehicle? But no it is legal for a person to kill a full family at one time and nobody wants to outlaw a vehicle.
If history has taught us one thing, to outlaw something is NOT the answer we tried it with whiskey and the crooks formed "gangs" to make it on a big scale proving in just one instance that if the bad guys want it or they can make money at it they will get it or produce it and if it is guns that are being made outlawed than we as the legal side of society are caught without a means of self preservation.I guess we could put someone in a car driving at 70 mph and talking on a cell phone and let them run over the bad guys!
If you to push a law trough then push a law for not being able to use a cell phone in a moving vehicle.

Could you tell me what state allows a Mentally Ill Person to drive. No state that I'm aware of does NOT have test for driving, test that a Mentally Impaired Person can NOT pass. Maybe you are just a Nazi who is attempting to give wacked out people guns and are attempting to do what all Nazi's do, divert attention from the REAL issue. Sieg Heil Y'all - Reply to this comment

- Ok, now let us expand the definition of mental illness to include members of right-winbg extremist groups like the KKK, and Aryan Nations, and Mr. Cheney, who has already shot his "friend" in the face, and was smiling during an interview on the incident.

- The right to not have a gun is a better right than having one. Just because you own a gun, does not mean you won't be shot. Does not mean you can stop a villian, does not mean you have no mental handicaps, does not mean you protect your rights. What it means is you give the impression you are going to shoot someone who Phucks with you. That in itself is paranoia, and very likely misinterpretation. Guns should be banned. Outlaws who have guns, will be hunted down. But please don't give me the bologna that owning a gun is my right because I can now go up against an unruly government who has taken our country hostage by its immense military. By the very fact that the 2nd Ammendment is a complete lie and fabrication of reality, would be that if you own a tank, so can I, if you own a nuke, so can I. So stop lying America. Your only hope is to bury the gun, renounce it forever, and be men. People who support guns are really cowards because it helps them hide behind their barrel of violence. Selling guns on American streets needs to stop.

- Statistics show that countries which ban guns have higher rates of overall crime.
Locking people up for committing a violent crime is OK. Locking people up and taking away their rights because one psychiatrist presumes they are dangerous, without any proof of violence, makes them angry. Making people angry leads to violence. This student had many problems, but was not a mass killer before he got locked up, had his rights stripped and was outcast as a menace to society. He became a killer after that happened to him.
Many mental patients have socially disconnected. What prevents problems is to re-connect them. Declaring them a social menace without proof further disconnects them. When disconnected, people can do unthinkable things.
We should better educate psychologists to connect with people who have issues of sexual abuse, like this student wrote about. Such people need A LOT of support to recover. Mental health professionals are no better than the flip of a coin at knowing who is dangerous. So, laws that allow one such professional to advise a judge to label a patient do the opposite of supporting patients. Ultimately, supporting patients%u2019 recovery protects us. However, bereaved families are often too traumatized with grief to be able to sympathize with the pain of people who go over the edge and commit atrocious crimes. However, re-connecting with troubled people before that happens protects us. - Reply to this comment
- If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Hey. Outlaws are the ones who really need them, so that's cool.
