Senate Turns Back Republican Proposal To Bar Felons From Legalization

You are preaching to the choir. This entire issue just makes me ill, as it did in 1986. I am so tired of pretty much all our posturing, pompous, ignorant Senators, particularly Kennedy, he makes me nauseas when he speaks. - Reply to this comment
- This friggin Congress just buried our country. They friggin gave it away, signed it over to Mexico, right before our eyes.

Even more interesting is Newt Gingrichs comments claiming the governments 12 million illegal Mexican figure was bogus! Gingrich said the government has no idea what the illegal Mexican count is and could be as high as 30 million illegals! That's insane, 30 million? Why are people acting like 12 to 20 to 30 million illegals are no big deal. 12 to 20 to 30 million illegals is a lot of people to absorb! WOW - Reply to this comment
- This was a disingenuous attempt by an anti-immigration Senator to muddy the waters and he should be ashamed for how cheap and obvious of a trick it was. It's like something out of a Junior High School student council and I would have expected better from someone calling themselves a US Senator. Cheap trick from top to bottom. Juvenile. Not too surprising coming from that as8shole I guess, but juvenile nevertheless.

Oh really? Is that why the Senate did accept Kennedys amdt that is basically a watered down version of Cornyn's?
Rejected Cornyn Amdt. No. 1184, As Modified; To establish a permanent bar for gang members, terrorists, and other criminals.
Agreed to Kennedy Amdt. No. 1333, as Modified; To increase the immigration-related penalties associated with various criminal activities. - Reply to this comment

I'm with you. Those stats p1ss me off so much it really makes me want to DEPORT. No ifs ands or buts. DEPORT every last one and get our country back and quit wasting tax dollars. We should boycott Mexico. - Reply to this comment
- Why would anyone be opposed to more resources to go after criminals that are already here?

From the L.A. Times:
1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.
2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
4. Over 2/3's of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L.A.County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in L.A.County).

Like they say, everyone is entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts! These facts speak for themselves! The U.S. has been successfully invaded and overrun without a single shot being fired. Redeploy U.S. forces in Iraq to the Mexican border where they can engage in a more urgent mission! - Reply to this comment

Even if Newt is everything you claim, that is not the point! Does this legislation contain language that lets illegal Mexican criminals just fill out a form promising not to do it again and stay in the U.S. or not, thats the main point, not anything to do with Newt! Beating up Newt deflects from the main issue! - Reply to this comment

Maybe you're right! Its seems like the illlegal Mexican gang criminals are being treated better than U.S. citizen crimnals. Then in that case we should let every criminal locked up in U.S. Jails fill out a form promising not to commit any more crime too! This way we can empty U.S. Jails and save a lot of money in the process. Surely if the U.S. can trust illegal Mexican gang members caught in criminal acts not to do it again by filling out a criminal amnesty form, it can trust Americans criminals not to do it again too! So all criminals, illegal Mexican criminals and U.S. criminals get to fill out an amnesty form, criminal amnesty forms for all, just promise not to do it again and Sign Here!! - Reply to this comment

- I think that as soon as enough Americans realize this legislation contains language that will let hard core illegal Mexican gang members stay in the U.S. by filling out a form promising not be engage in gang activities anymore this legislation will die from its own silliness! Mr. Gingrich then went on to say that if this illegal immigration legislation is passed then when Law Enforcement captures any of the 30,000 illegal Mexican gang members, all a gang member will need to do is fill out a form promising not to engage in any further gang activity and they can then stay in the U.S.!! Mr. Gingrich called that part of the legislation not dealing in reality and just based on that alone this legislation should be defeated!!!
I think that as soon as enough Americans realize this legislation contains language that will let hard core illegal Mexican gang members stay in the U.S. by filling out a form promising not be engage in gang activities anymore this legislation will die from its own silliness! Newt Gingrich even asked the question, who is even going to process and follow up on the stupid form? The correct solution is to make them all go back to Mexico, put a serious wall up since we can't trust Mexicans to respect our borders and start over from scratch and do this immigration thing right! - Reply to this comment

I read the story. The motion by Cronyn was, as Charles Schumer said, a stealth way to try to derail the bill. It was not an honest attempt at amending the bill, it was an attempt to kill it on a procedural issue, because Cronyn knows that the bill, as it stands, does not allow felons to be protected under this bill anymore then they are now. In other words they are already subject to arrest, prosecution, imprisonment and/or deportation under existing laws and this bill does not affect those laws in any manner. This was a disingenuous attempt by an anti-immigration Senator to muddy the waters and he should be ashamed for how cheap and obvious of a trick it was. It's like something out of a Junior High School student council and I would have expected better from someone calling themselves a US Senator. Cheap trick from top to bottom. Juvenile.
