- And technology for CO2 sequestering does exist, and does not cost millions. Try googling geologic sequestering CO2, you might learn something.

The great unknown? Hardly. Increased CO2 will cause increased temperature, it is basic physics. - Reply to this comment

You asked me what I did with regard to the issue, then you attack me for it. It just happens to be my situation, and I don't claim it is a solution for anything or anybody else.
And where did you get the corporate/govt bubble BS? I have always worked as an independent consultant, relying on wits and luck to make a living.
You have a very nasty streak, and presume way too much. - Reply to this comment
- Singing good morning America, how are you
Saying don't you know me, I'm your native son
Yes I'm the train they call City of New Orleans
I'll be gone five hundred miles when the days is done
But it's twilight on the city of New Orleans
Talk about a pocket full of friends
Halfway home, we'll be there by morning
With no tomorrow waiting round the bend
Singing goodbye America, I love you
Saying don't you know me, I'm your native son
I'm the train they call City of New Orleans

- The data indicate that there have been many naturally-induced warming and cooling periods over the last several hundred thousand years. It is likely that we are in such a warming period now. The problem is that we also have a great deal of CO2 which was released through human activity superimposed on top of this natural warming. There will be even more CO2 released as the oceans continue to warm. This is the great unknown...what happens when natural warming is accompanied by significantly elevated CO2 levels DURING and AFTER the warming. Will the warming be amplified to a deleterious level? Will the warming period be significantly increased? No one knows.

- I did very well financially, and no longer need to do that. So I don't.

...so because I have made it....screw everyone else...right?
You might have traveled, but living within the corporate/government bubble is far from a global view.
Otherwise YOU would have never said that capturing CO2 from US power plants is NOT going to cost trillions over the years in developing technology THAT DOESN'T EXIST YET..yikes!!!
Good luck and please don't feel sorry for me. Get up from your home office chair, and thank whoever paid YOU a bundle to live in the cocoon you get to live in. - Reply to this comment

Without subsidies, ethanol would cost much more than gasoline.
The claim that using ethanol will save energy is another myth. Studies show that the amount of energy ethanol produces and the amount needed to make it are roughly the same.
Plus, look at what has happened to the price of food staples in the last month. Think that is a temporary spike. Think again. Corporate farms are going where the money is...and if corn futures are any indication, expect ALL food to sky rocket because of the MYTH that ethanol will lead us from the mid east nipple.
Think again.
God, I hate it when facts get in the way of a good economic/environmental policy. - Reply to this comment

Unfortunately you can't argue with what the data show, regardless of your predisposition to interpret it one way or the other. I suspect that you have never actually read any of these papers, correct? BTW...its "a-r-g-u-m-e-n-t". - Reply to this comment

I feel sad for you. All the solutions I posted are easily done, and will not cost "trillion."
With regard to my "naive wisdom and need to get out of the office." I travelled the world for years as a geology consultant, and saw and did things you can't imagine. I did very well financially, and no longer need to do that. So I don't. - Reply to this comment

Very true. The problem with global warming is that it is not an immediate "in your face" kind of threat that most can understand... - Reply to this comment
- Your solutions are silly. Try these for starts:
Greater fuel efficiency for cars
More efficient homes & appliances
More public transit

You are spending TOO much time in your home office. There is a BIG world out there and your naive wisdom towards it is breathtaking. What do you propose that the other 190 million Americans do that don't have the luxury of working at home or don't have jobs, or, or ,or.
Your proposals are great. Unfortunately you are watching too much TV. All of them would require decades and trillions of dollars.
Any idea what you would be doing in your home office after the public is asked to carry the load of this "we think it's happening" scenario?
Conservation is a MUST from everyone. But the GW hysterics are convinced that we have NO time to wait and actions must be taken NOW.
That rush to judgment won't work. - Reply to this comment

You are correct. The old "temperature leads CO2" arguement is part of the Exxon-Mobil disinformation campaign. It does work on people without a scientific education, or those looking to support their ideological position...or both. - Reply to this comment

Those ridiculous predictions from Dipracer could become a necessity if the Global warming deniers such as Bush and those blind fools who follow him have their way, and nothing is done "NOW".
They will push us to the point of no return, as long as the energy lobby can see a profit to be turned.
As far as foresight goes, they are truly blind.- Reply to this comment

- AND THE RESTRICTIONS THAT WILL LEAD TO ANARCHY..
Automobile use will be banned in all government-designated restricted metro areas. Mass transit will be the only form of transportation within these areas. Because of the millions using the transit system, it will be rationed by color-coded days. All interstate highways will become toll ONLY. Again, use of the interstate system will be rationed for individuals and commercial use will be heavily taxed. All personal vehicles will be emission certified every 6 months at the owner expense. All vehicles that cannot be made compliant will be confiscated and destroyed. All antique and classic cars will have their engines rendered inoperable.
ANY QUESTIONS?
Go ahead, let the politicians make the decisions on whether GW is real or not. If YOU are not informed about ALL the evidence of GW...get ready for laws that the government THINKS will make a difference....facts be D A M N E D. - Reply to this comment
- We have ice core smaples dating back 900,000 years. The data clearly show that an increase in temperature PRECEDES an increase in atmospheric CO2. This is because as the oceans warm, CO2 solubility decreases and it is released back into the atmoshphere. The oceans are currently near their saturation level with CO2 and much of this will be re-released as warming continues.

Well, the first step to a solution is to convince GW deniers like yourself that there is actually a problem.
The second step is to put leadership in place that has the wisdom and courage to make some painful changes.
As for myself, I work from a home office. Drive as little as possible (for a selfish reason, to save money), walk or ride a bike when possible, have a largely solar-powered home, and buy locally produced goods when possible.
