Comments on: Bush Unveils Strategy On Global Warming
President Urges Voluntary Cuts Of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- Top scientists are abandoning their previous affirmative positions on "man made" global warming on an almost daily basis. The "religion" of man made global warming is FINALLY getting the exposure it deserves.
Junk science! So it figures that Bush, since he seems to be interested in totally f**king up the republican party and his last years in office, would be jumping on this band wagon.
He's every bit a loser as the people who believe in this stuff. - Reply to this comment

check out the way to provide our green energy, alternative fuel Ethanol, while at the same time putting new O2 into our atmosphere, and eat up CO2 too. - Reply to this comment
- America will continue to fall behind as long as we continue foreign policies that ignore the wishes of the rest of the world. We are bullies.
States must do what the Federal Government isn't doing and now the rest of the world has come to the same conclusion. America is becoming less and less significant as a leader among nations. - Reply to this comment
- Getting tough on those global emissions, huh, George? George Bush is the worst president in US history, without exception.
Under GOP mismanagement and lack of leadership, the US is very quickly devolving into the same status as a third world nation.
According to a recent BBC commissioned poll, Iran, Israel and the US are considered the least favored nations.
We can thank the GOP for the current state of affairs. And without the support of far right wing extremist Christians and Jews, aka "Zionists," the Bush administration wouldn't have been elected the first time, much less reelected.
Zionists and the GOP (which are pretty much the same thing) are a greater menace to the US and the world at large than al qaida. - Reply to this comment
- The problem with "voluntary" is that it is voluntary, and no one will volunteer to take actions that might negatively impact short term profits. This is another reason Bush is an idiot. How about we arrest Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Powell, Wolfie, and Uncle George's Perverted Rice, and replace them all with 6th graders? We will get a much more realistic and practical world view this way.

Ha, funny stuff!
Actually, nuke (bombs) probably is Plan A for the neocons. It would be a doubleheader: 1) kill millions of CO2 emitting citizens and 2) nuclear winter. I bet Karl Rove thought that one up :) - Reply to this comment

Sorry kids... this is just disingenuous and the rest of the world is looking at our government like we are idiots. We abdicated leadership on this issue... we are not going to get it back in the near term.
You got it in one.- Reply to this comment

I was actually referring to nuclear power plants, but I think that you may have stumbled upon plan 'B'.
Who knows? They may even double-down. - Reply to this comment

What do you mean by 'will'?
Great suggestions.

Has anyone else noticed this little move here? The G8 and the rest of the world moves forward because the US is not interested in participating.
However, when it is politically expedient Bush decides to put together his own Climate Change Summit when he realizes everyone on the planet is moving forward with some form of emissions control. And doing so regardless of what "camp" the rest of the world politically falls into regarding the true scientific reality?

These other countries are going to reduce emissions and they are going to talk about us, the way we talk about China. - Reply to this comment

- Sad and scary.
I have a suggestion for both sides of the argument. Stop believing everything in the press, drop your party bias, and walk out of your media induced haze to do the following:
GO ASK A CLIMATOLOGIST or some other person who *knows* about whatever issue you are interested in.
For the love of pete... Anything that Al Gore or Rush Limbaugh tells you is a STARTING point. Go research it yourself. Don't listen to the media. Pick up a book, talk to a professor, LEARN stuff and stop making the world laugh at us.
We have a responsibility as the electorate to be INFORMED. If we rely on others to inform us we can be misled.
Go read the studies (not what people do say about the studies), go read the research and have an *informed opinion*.
I'm an engineer, I design computer networks. I happen to know that the RAW data for just about any issue you are arguing about is available on the internet. Please for the love of our country go look at the raw data, learn a little math, and figure the basics out.
It took me about a week to come to an informed opinion on global climate change, and no, I'm not telling you what my opinion is.

- Bush's get-tough strategy consists of URGING other nations to a series of DISCUSSIONS regarding VOLUNTARY reductions of greenhouse gases that won't begin until AFTER he leaves office.
In other words, his entire strategy consists of doing NOTHING right now and letting other people do something later. - Reply to this comment
- What a guy!! Not a day goes by that Bush isn't trying to control the world. Everyday is a new subject in ADD land. Of course, nothing ever gets accomplished or completed. We just launch ideas and then move to the next subject.

- As far as Bush's "new attitude" is concerned; he appears to be attempting to salvage the last year or so to avoid that dreaded "worst" label.
His cohorts in profiteering have been arranging their escape moves and he's probably realizing he's being left holding the bag for them.
Even so, his suggestion to do something around 2012 when the solar thing is the strongest is a CYA move.
That way 4-5 years from now he can claim he "tried" if the next Prez follows George in ignoring the problem he'll say he "warned" his successor when things actually go bad.
If the next Prez successfully addresses the potential problems, George will probably claim the credit "for starting the solution".
For George a little lip service and nothing else will go a long way no matter what. - Reply to this comment
