Sources Say Senator-Turned-Actor Will Form "Testing The Waters" Committee Next Week
- his ego is "over" inflated. all ft wants to do is have something to put on his tombstone that reads, "I ran for President, of the United States of America. I was a Senator. I was an Actor. blah, blah, blah. this isn't a waste of time and energy for ft, it's a waste of time & energy for anyone who get's involved with this disaster. Nothing more, nothing less.

- A 1994 New York Times profile described Fred Thompson's film character roles in the following terms:
"The glowering, hulking Mr. Thompson has played a White House chief of staff, a director of the Central Intelligence Agency, a highly placed F.B.I. agent, a rear admiral, even a senator. When Hollywood directors need someone who can personify governmental power, they often turn to him."

- Freddy, Freddy, Freddy.
What this country does not need is another actor for president.
Still it looks good on the resume doesn't it, even a failed run which of course it will be.
Freddy, keep your day job in the the phony world of television.

- A total waste of his time and energy. The reality is, he doesn't have a chance.

- Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma disqualifies him. He has a less thna 50% chance of living through the first term.Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma has a high recurence rate and is quite deadly.
Forget it Fred, the only reason anyone would vote for you is because they like your VP candidate. - Reply to this comment
- rightrevtodd: I have enough burdens making it through the day without the additional burden of calling my neighbors names. Karl Rove's approach to politics, for one, thrives on devisiveness. I am sure there are Democratic strategist examples as well. I am not going to play their game. Our democracy works better when respect is the order of the day. Though I do not agree with your choice of Fred Thompson, still, it is far better for us all if each of has a candidate in which they believe.

- yes. and that's so sad that others have to scoop so low my friend.

- why do you want to call people names? although you might be a red hot liberal, i don't have to call you that to make my point. why can't we learn how to disagree with respect?

- THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What great news. This is going to be the best thing that could happen for both political parties. Fred Thompsom will make a great president. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And by the way....I respect your opinion without calling anyone a crackhead. But that is how low it gets with some people

- I don't need to hear his positions to know I am against him. He is a republican. My thanks to W for this, I did not used to be this way. It is wrong, and I know it, but don't care. I'd friggin vote for a monkey before I'd vote for a republican now and for as long as I live. I loathe the ground that W walks on, he makes me physically sick what he has done to my country with the blessing of a good many of you. Sick.

- Agree with prior post, anyone who votes for a republican must be on crack or unable to read.
Lets see, what would ole Fred do for us?
1. Keep all the tax breaks for the rich, hell, even give them more. [The poor can make up the difference].
2. Find one or two more wars, to make our rich war machine owners richer. [The poor can supply the human cannon fodder]
3. Continue big oil record profits, so the rich can ride around in huge SUVs. [The poor can spend less on food to buy their gas]
4. Find ways to further erode our constitutional rights.
5. See if I can create more enemies in 4 years than did ole W.
6. If he's really lucky, he can start WW III and get about 20% of our population killed, and thus have a more prominent position in history.
What a *** joke. - Reply to this comment
- marcodele: Sadly, I concur in your view regarding the possiblity of a Jeb Bush run. We need to remember that Bush-Cheney-Rove control when this war ends, at least through November. They are already working to end it in any manner that favors their legacy and the election of a Republican in '08. Past behavior says they are not going to wait for an uncertain outcome, and thereby relinquish control.

- The Republicans are not satisfied with their slate of candidates.
Don't rule out a last minute run by Jeb Bush.
He could even win based on a "The Smart Bush Who Should Have Been President" campaign. They'd swallow it hook, line and sinker. I can see the bumper stickers now: "Finally, A Smart Bush in the White House." - Reply to this comment
- I expect to see both Fred Thompson and Al Gore in the race after the September confrontation with Bush over renewed war funding. Frankly, the current batch of candidates is wearing out the voters.
Watch out for a Fall surprise. Cheney and Rove are likely working the Iraqi Parliament to pass an invitation to leave. The Bush administration will declare victory, and annoint Thompson. Remember, Karl Rove is all about manipulation, not open competition. The Democrats will be in the position of claiming failure in the midst of ticker tape parades for returning troops. Wag the dog... - Reply to this comment
- pwrslm,
You're right about the rush to crucify. I don't expect to vote for him but I'd like to at least listen to what he has to say before pigeonholing him.
It's pretty sad when we start swiftboating candidates before we even know what they're thinking. - Reply to this comment
- Of all the republicans, he's the least repulsive.
But I can't see Halliburton allowing him. - Reply to this comment
- Oh, dear God help us! Not another Republican actor as President. Where can we run to???

- If this bird brain gets elected, I swear I'll never vote again for a Republican!
Have you been impressed today with the lack of great men in politics? The so called great men of today would be pygmies and dwarfs in the days of Teddy Roosevelt or George Washington! I say this very kindly and I am not talking about any particular political party. One hundred years ago, the so called great men of today would be called "cheap politicians".
We have many ambitious young men and older men that apparently have no qualifications whatsoever of being statesmen! But we continue to call them statesmen ANYWAY because of our PRIDE! We don't want to admit that we're not producing great men.
In reality, these so called statesmen are nothing more than cleaver politicians. (Totally incompetent in their positions of leadership!)
They don't care about the poor. How long has it been since you've seen homes being built that poor people could afford to purchase? (40 years--50 years?)
Believe it or not, there was a time in the America when ANYONE could afford a home. Nowadays, people want $150,000 for a clapboard shack and $185,000 for a two bedroom, concrete block home! It's disgusting and loathing how our community has regressed to this level of degenerate character.
When these types of conditions exist in a society, it's the mark of a decadent age for that society. - Reply to this comment
