all this talk about swift boat, carter, kerry, or anyone else will never make George W Bush a good an decent man. GWB started a war with a country that did not attack the USA, nor did it help Al Qaeda who did attack the USA. This war has cost 300,000 Iraqis, 3,000 Americans, and hundreds of billions of dollars. GWB is the worst President America has ever had.

So let me get this straight - Jimmy Carter slaps Bush, and the best that the war loving neocons can do is talk about John Kerry's Vietnam service?

Why don't we talk about George Bush's Vietnam service? How many medals did he get for cowardice, deferments, and being AWOL?

JEGibbons,

You should get your facts straight. Kerry also received the Silver Star for bravery under fire.

Sorry to burst your bubble. But regardless of where Kerry was or what he did, Dumyah was still skipping out on even the wussy's last chance - the Air National Guard. And he couldn't even hack that; he deserted.

It's a pity Carter backed down. Maybe Cheney threatened to take him hunting?

Bush is the biggest piece of $hit to ever soil the White House. If he and Cheney died tomorrow, it would be the best thing that could happen for the country.

He might as well have been wearing panties under his flight suit with that one; and actually, with some of the rumors about President Cheerleader, he might well have been.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like one, it%u2019s a DUCK (Lame DUCK). Democrats, grow a pair and stand up to this group of thug. Stop apologizing for speaking your mind and stating what I personally believe to be true. If you guys want to win back control, your team (I%u2019m independent) better grow a pair. It doesn%u2019t have to be a big set because I and a lot of other independents, would vote for a chimp before we would vote for another GOP CHIMP. TAKE BACK AMERICA%u2026.

President Carter has done much more good as an ex-president than bush has in office. President Carter in office did more good and a lot less harm than bush has in office. Presidents make their retirement money after they leave office with speaking engagements and book deals. I predict that Dubya will have to settle with his ill-gotten
treasures since he seems incapable of speaker or reading let alone writing.

Iceman, I was in Nam and I was also awarded the purple heart. I am sick and tired of righty chicken hawks telling me that I'm only good for a trigger finger. If I don't support their adventure in Iraq, I'm nothing more than a traitor. Every veteran, who ever took the oath and wore the uniform, regardless of political stripe, should be repulsed, disgusted and outraged at the slimmy Swift Boat lie. To belittle the service of one man for the sake of getting another, who used the National Guard to avoid service, elected, is abhorant and an affront to all who have served.

Kerry was a Navy Swift Boater who operated in my AO. Their job was hazardous no question, but they did not go out every day. Duty requirements were less perilous than say a Marine Lieutenant pounding the bush for Charlie every day.

The point is that Kerry was grooming himself at Yale for a political career. Getting those purple hearts was part of the grand scheme.
You don't see any medals for heroism mixed in with those purple hearts. do you?
REASON: Simple if you were burned by a shell casing ejected during an engagement you could qualify for a Purple Heart. It was an easy medal to acquire fraudently, I am sad to report to you, who may not know first hand.

Kerry does his TELL ALL about things he only hears about rather than things he really experienced, first hand, to a Congress anxious to end an unpopular war. This equates to a BIG FAT LIE, to my mind.

All Veterans should shun John Kerry. He is unworthy to stand in our ranks. He has betrayed us as sure as Hanoi Jane did. Only worse, because he did this for his own personal gain! And that is the TRUTH!

Breaking News: Carter backs down.

NBC, MSNBC and news services
Updated: 1 hour, 22 minutes ago

Former President Jimmy Carter on Monday said his comments over the weekend about the Bush administration were "careless."

Interviewed on the TODAY Show about the comments, Carter said, "They were maybe careless or misinterpreted." He said he "certainly was not talking personally about any president."

You could've fooled us, Jimmy !!

["I think it's sad that President Carter's reckless personal criticism is out there," White House spokesman Tony Fratto said Sunday from Texas, where Bush spent the weekend ... "I think it's unfortunate," Fratto said. "And I think he is proving to be increasingly irrelevant with these kinds of comments." ]

yes ... a past president who more than any other past president clearly represents morality, decency, and goodwill to others (that which the right lays sole claim to) ... is now deemed irrelevent by the bushies.

don't actually adress the claims ... just attempt to destroy or marginalize the messenger ... how republican of them!

war is peace ... freedom is slavery ... ignorance is strength.

Hundreds of thousands of people opposed the war - not just Michael Moore. He just had the ability to show the truth about this administration by making a movie. Note too that there were many celebrities that also joined in the chorus to get us out of this illegal invasion / occupation.

And why would Bush denounce the swift boat ads? He paid for them!!

"increasingly irrelevant"

That's being overly kind. I live in GA and JC is not well thought of in his own state.....except in the extreme south (farmland.)

Jimmy was/is an honest man, but he was an abysmal president. He was also the first to break the civil rule of presidents not commenting on sitting president's administrations. He is a great disappointment.

"Fact: Not one of the swift boat liars was on Kerry's boat."
-Posted by huskerarmy at 09:17 AM : May 21, 2007

FACT: Michael Moore created an attack on Bush during the 2004 campaign that was just as misleading and deceptive as the Swift Boat ads, and you liberals had no problem with that.

FACT: You libs are guilty of the worst kind of hypocracy. Remember when Kerry whined that Bush should denounce the Swift Boat attacks? And remember when Bush said, "Ok - but I'll go one step further and denounce ALL defamatory political attack ads." And remember Kerry whining, "But that's not what I meant! You were just supposed to denounce the ads that attacked ME!!!"

Much of Carters woes were not of his own doing. On the other hand, Bush has been the worst president in history, other than possibly Herbie Hoover, by his own willful design.

JEGibbons,
Every President faces problems beyond their control. Some, like Bush "bring it on" themselves.

I'm not anti-Bush. I'm for maintaining our alliances in the war on terror, protecting the identities of our intelligence networks looking for WMD, holding Bin Laden's family hostage until we got some answers, responding to the directive titled "Bin Laden determined to attack America with planes",and providing troops with body and humvee armor. I was against going into Iraq before the weapons insppections were done so that we would have the same international support that we had in Gulf War 1 and Afghanistan. Once we decided to go anyways I was for sending the troops that the Generals asked for. I was for getting Sadaam and his sons but against occupying Iraq and trying to force a democracy down the throats of warring factions. I don't agree that results have ever mattered to Bush and I don't see you demanding any results.

The Camp David accords did result in peace between the Israelis and Palestinians while Carter was President. He received the Nobel Prize for a treaty, not for a meeting. The peace lasted until your heroes took over.

You're right that it isn't easy to convince bad people to not do bad things. The majority of the American people and the rest of the world are trying very hard to get the President and his supporters like you to wake up.

"John Kerry = 3 purple hearts in a 4 month tour? Only another Viet Nam veteran, like myself, could possibly understand just how ludicrous that sounds."
- Posted by JEGibbons at 09:08 AM : May 21, 2007

You were never there, son.

"There were an awful lot of Purple Hearts %u2014 from shrapnel, some of those might have been M-40 grenades," said George Elliott, Kerry's commanding officer. "The Purple Hearts were coming down in boxes. Kerry, he had three Purple Hearts. None of them took him off duty. Not to belittle it, that was more the rule than the exception."

From the Urban Legends busting website Snopes.com:

Claim: John Kerry's Vietnam War service medals (a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts) were earned under "fishy" circumstances.

Status: False.

Fact: Not one of the swift boat liars was on Kerry's boat.
Fact: Actual eyewitness accounts, Swift boaters were not, describe Kerry's actions just as has been documented in the official record.
Fact: The military condcuts a thorough investigation and does not just willy nilly award medals like candy.
Fact: Neo-cons believe the truth is a matter of marketing... much less important than public "perception."
