Comments on: House Bid To Override Bush Veto Fails
222-203 Vote Falls Far Short Of Two-Thirds Majority Needed For Override
- The war in IRAQ was a strategical and tactical success. We took over the country. That is a fact. We are now aiding the Iragi's in getting their democratic govt up and running.

I suppose it depends on how you look at it. Man it must really be a good time over there. Imagine having free fireworks every night! The religious freedom of being able to load a truck up with explosives and commit suicide at your local market. What a great place to visit!
Osama Bin Laden is probably having trouble finding enough places to train all the new recruits.
If Iraq such a resounding success I would expect that you could identify a bunch of victories!
My question is can you identify a significant or decisive victory that we have realized in Iraq?
Another question is do you feel the 500 billion we have already spent on this operation was worth it? - Reply to this comment
- But the reality is---no American stateside has the right to determine if this war should go on or even if it is just or worth it. That belongs to the people without buildings, sanitation, schools or even food. It belongs to those who constantly are being bombed or attacked and who must fear for their lives from everything and everyone--piles of trash can hide IEDs, Shia can knock on your door at night--Sunni can park next to you and blow you up, people are being killed just waiting--for buses, to pray, or to shop--we cannot imagine this and we have no reference point. Armchair warriors should be ashamed of themselves. it is easy to sentence an entire country and people to continual mayhem when it is not you, isn't it? As for the other side--consider what happens if we leave--the continual chaos, murder--ethnic cleansings--revenge killings--so in the end--we should let the Iraqi people decide--because in the end--like in the beginning--they pay the heaviest price. Let's try to remember this the next time we stage a war of choice instead of necessity.

- We need a war tax and a committment to pay for this war as we go. This will bring the true supporters out of the woodwork and separate the chicken hawks and party supporters from those who really believe this is a good and just cause. About 15% of each of our gross incomes ought to do it. We can decrease spending, rein in the deficit and put our money where our mouth is. A war far away--- where the dying, the destroying, the shortages, the bombs and the chaos is a theory always will produce more supporters in the short term. the list we can do--is actually foot the bill and feel the bite, since we appear unwilling to die or even let our streets get bombed--fighting our own war.

Deficit spending cannot go on forever. America is technically bankrupt.
Soldiers die daily. They do have to be replaced.
But... isn't the Main Point...

- If you beleive in "free love" as you wonder why your 3rd marriage just went down the drain, you may be a liberal.

LOL!!! And if you believe in "paying for love" and want it secretly with another male while being married to a woman and professing "Christianity" you must be a Republican. This is fun!!! Please continue. - Reply to this comment
- Iraq Democracy? A nation that under Saddam a brutal dictator was able to live side by side. Today the Iraqis are unable to live side by side, walls are being built to seperate the sects and invisible walls create bloodshed on a daily basis. Will it splinter into three nations an be at perpetual war or will it require another dictator to govern the Iraqi people? A democratic government that has ties to Iran????

- People on this forum are "talking to the choir." For a real challenge, why not post this stuff on a conservative forum. That may prove to be an intellectual challenge.

Last time I went through the trouble of registering on one, they kicked me off after 20 minutes. Bush followers are just as hateful towards differing views as Bush himself. - Reply to this comment

The money is being handled through deficit spending. Future generations will get the bill.
Bush apparently thinks he has enough troops for Iraq without a Draft.
If Bush thinks he's unpopular now, just let him start drafting young men to fight in Iraq. - Reply to this comment
- To every American out there who watched there representative, knowing that the majority of whom he represents want to end the war in Iraq, vote today to uphold Bush's veto, and in doing so also deny our troops their funds, should really make a point in remembering today for 2008. He might as well have said "I know what you put me here to do, and, well, f**k you. I'm taking the money. Don't forget to vote for me in 2008, Suckers".

The Wall Street Journal reports that a new Harris poll shows that President Bush's approval rating is at an all-time low of just 28%. In fact, it was so bad that today Alberto Gonzales said he's thinking about resigning ... just so he doesn't have to be seen standing with him.- Reply to this comment
- "Great Job in destroying that ridiculous legislation today Mr. President! You have the support of those Americans who actually want to finish a job when it is started. Could someone please tell the democrats this?"
- Posted by cbville72 at 09:56 PM : May 02, 2007
It was a Pyrrhic Victory.
A Democrat is going to win in November 2008 and take office as President in January 2009, and the troops will be withdrawn.
All the Iraqis are aware of this - how could they not be ? It's the real deadline.
We'll see which group wants it more after that: the pro-democracy Iraqi government forces, or the insurgents. - Reply to this comment

- (Significant opponent -- the Serbs have always been mighty fighters, especially in their native terrain. Just ask Timur Leng and Adolph Hitler
OR I could just look back to WWll....oh thats right .....they were crushed in a couple months.
If you are going to argue history, at least you coule bone up on it some.
BTW....The war in IRAQ was a strategical and tactical success. We took over the country. That is a fact. We are now aiding the Iragi's in getting their democratic govt up and running. That too is a fact. If you hate this country so much ....move to France. - Reply to this comment
