Here's a message for all you Bush-Bashers out there who thinks the should be sent to prison immediately. LOOK, the man is an American citizen and like any American citizen he deserves a fair trial for his crimes. His crimes are many, war crimes, flagrant corruption, Valerie Plame, criminal negligence in New Orleans, attacks against the constitution, etc. I still believe in due process of law and a trial should be in order.

The Democrats and moderate Republicans in the House and Senate are doing their historical job of keeping checks on the Executive branch. The Congress has brought President Bush to the bargaining table. That is some progress. Our pocketbook is not endlessly deep, and neither is the supply of American troops.

Both America and Iraq need a substantial diplomatic effort to bring this war to an end. A lasting solution can only come from the Middle East. The only way any good may be salvaged from this Republican foreign policy disaster is through diplomacy, not force.

The political climate of Eisehower's time is gone. Neither party is offering much in the way of honor and/or truth in politics these days. Both parties in this country spend a disporportionally large amount of time blaming each other for EVERYTHING that is wrong in this country. Truth be told, Democrat and Republican both have equally contributed to the political climate that we have today--mistrust, deception, personal gain (financial and otherwise), no matter who gets stepped on to get there. This just doesn't go for the Bush administration, Clinton worked very hard on his own personal gains while he was in the White House, as did his predecessor and so on. Honor and truth are noble values--now if we can just get someone in office with both.

BIGDADPATRIO,,, My son in law is a former Bushie & a carrer marine in Camp Pendelton with 2 Iraq tours.... They use & need food stamps & base food banks,, Shame on us..
. Abject poverty has increased, small business in the gulf can't afford insurance now, some have had increases over $10,000 per year.
. For the 1st time in our history we are fighting on more than 2 fronts with tax cuts, fewer trained well enough, in fewer numbers & little actual troop support from anyone execpt the troops & thier families, and a few of us vets....
. I could easly go on & on but I need to go to bed..

My problem is that I don't see the proud Republicans that I once admired. I don't see anything better in who's running the dog snd pony show in Congress now. Our leaders have failed us miserably. Republicans need to get back to their roots of less government intrusion in our personal lives, of proposing lower taxes, of being the party of actual family values, of standing for morality and virtue......that's all gone and if they don't get back to their core beliefs they may in fact be lost forever. The Democrats need to rid themselves of the extreme leftists who use the vile and foul language and name calling and start aiming towards a more moderately voiced and less hate-filled supporters just as the right needs to rid itself of the extremists to the very far right who spew equally vile ideas. Our country's future is at stake. We need to get it out of the hands of the extremeists on both ends of the spectrum and look for more moderation.

I stongly dissaprove of Bush. Those who do approve of him: what did you think about Katrina? Seems like a lot of bad things have happened that are under his realm of responsibility, but it is somehow never HIS FAULT.

V.P. War Profiterring Haliburton Cheney saying on CNN - that we are making enormous progress in IRAQ - STATE of DENIAL!
This is exactly why the "fired" Generals on the ground objected to putting more troops in Harms Way and why they are dubious about "partnering" with the IRAQI troops!
The Military Brass want to hide these events to try and distort the realities of this Civil War in IRAQ. US TROOPS are viewed as "occupiers" no longer liberators... and thus, just as much a problem as the insurgents to the ultimate stability of their country!
These are IRAQI citizens people and whether you want to label them "yankess" or "rebs" neither of them are Americans and it is their destiny to decide the fate of their country!
You read the reports about IRANIANS traing Shia Militia and in IRAN and the other 100 Muslim Nations you read about the US Training Shia Security Forces - PLEASE TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE!!!
This is the type of deceit that Bush has been shielding from America for over four years in order to keep US Support behind Keeping our Soldiers in HARMS WAY - with Cheerleaders like V.P. War Profiterring Haliburton Cheney saying on CNN - that we are making enormous progress in IRAQ - STATE of DENIAL!

How Tragically SAD!

I'll believe that there will be accountability in Washington again when I see an actual practical solution to Iraq that doesn't make us look any more idiotic than we already look, and that comes about without anymore of this political grandstanding that GW and Reid and Pelosi like doing (jwhitman you're right, Reid really should stay off camera). Also, if Congress could take time from their busy subpeona schedule to do something about the immigration issue, Social Security, that would be a plus.

BIGDADPATRIO: What exactly did the republican party do in Congress over their 10 years? Rack up mountains of debt, give insane tax breaks to those who least need it at the top of the income bracket, blindly support an incompetant president, cut student finacial aid, food stamps, and generally made life harder for average americans. Don't be so quick to blame our government for the latter 20th century. Many more factors drove that change in our society.

BIGDADPATRIO,,, Yes,, we agree. But remember this is far from the GOP of Eisenhowers time & most have forgotten.. We need new blood, but none of these Fedralist Sociaty people.... Both party's have become more intrested in thier own party than they are in America.
. I remember 1973 & the oil embargo, I was in the Pacific poking holes in the ocean.. Gas lines where real long in Pearl Harbor.. & I was a republican.... I'll change in a heartbeat if I see anymore lack of honor & truth.

What is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Isn't that what George Bush is doing right now with Iraq? He is without a doubt the worst president in US history, and one of the stupidest world leaders ever.

emokev,, Yes, but its not that surprising.. Look at our Educational System,, It's closer to that of a 3rd rate nation.... How many of these so called educated people in this administration & others have been totally incompent & it's gotten much worse..
, School shootings, college shootings, more high school drop outs now,, hell man, last week here in Sacramento we had 2 big mass murder attemts in our high schools.
, Dumbing down of America indeed, I recognized it 20 years ago, & loss of good working values as well.... We are tought to trust our government & the President's position also,,, But obviously that also need to be changed.
.. They now need a basic battery of tests we give our military, a compleated back ground investigation before they are allowed to handle classified matreials, employment verifications & lie detector tests.

George says, the bill would "mandate a rigid and artificial deadline" for troop pullouts, and "it makes no sense to tell the enemy when you plan to start withdrawing."

It doesn't matter if we stay in Iraq for the next 30 years. Thanks to this idiot we call our President, we can be assured that there will be plenty of terrorists who will be willing to blow themselves up for many generations to come. Any morons in the Republican party who thinks staying in Iraq for any length of time is going to improve the situation in Iraq or the Middle East is just plain dumb.

BRING OUR MEN AND WOMEN HOME NOW!

j-whitman, the Republicans were put out of power in the early 50ies and the Democrats had control of both Houses for about 40 years. What did that get us? Well, it got us the "Great Society" and 5 generations of families stuck in welfare. It got us NO comprehensive energy policy (remember the Arab oil embargo in 1973 and all the promises of that Congress then?); It created a wide network of bleeding heart liberal judges who were soft on crime and criminals; judges who were legislating and making laws instead of interpreting the laws in their rulings; during their "oversight" of this great land we began to see young people losing sight of what was right and moral and their behaviour started becoming violent without much fear of real retribution due to a permissive justice system, and of which has gotten worse and more violent over the years. We had an America that was a true melting pot with people assimmilating to AMERICAN culture and NOW through their tutalidge and PC'ness we now have Politicians who are AFRAID to stand up to the once held belief that "This is America, become an AMERICAN, assimmilate, learn ENGLISH and be the best AMERICAN you can be, NOT a whatever HYPHEN American. We are in danger of losing what America was built on, the ideals and ideas and efforts to be a vast melting pot of ideas & customs, now becoming a fragmented society of little extreme minority groups, all because todays politicians no longer have the culhunes to push what needs to be done to save America.

Bush is in denial, he wants to win so badly he won't let reality in. Too bad that America re-elected the worst president in US history. How smart does that make us look?

40 football field ambassy in Bagdad and you thought really this Walking-Liar would leave as soon as the American People decided to?

-Come on, this leader is lead by mean of a leash in the hands of AIPAC and Church to lead the Armageddon. Walking-Liar will never allow a pull out of the troops from Iraq but on his dead body. Everything is made ready for him, not to be opposed. Turkey is interrupting a democratic process maybe allowing the election of a pro-Islamic president... it'll be ugly over there...

How's that "war Czar" search going? Maybe there's a Bush apologist on this board that is willing to volunteer for the position. Only requirements for the job is to be neutered and the perfect fall guy to take the blame for George's mistakes. He's running out of patsys.
