Comments on: Bush Wants Immigration On The Front Burner
President Asks Lawmakers To Come Together On "Critical Challenge"
- This illegal immigrant issue/nightmare reminds me of the rampant problem a few years ago with house squatters, people who just moved into vacant homes, turned on the lights, set their kids up in schools, didn't pay for anything, stressed out community services and dared the Banks to kick them out. There were crys for sympathy and compassion, but do you think the Banks had sympathy or compassion? Nope! When did a Bank ever have sympathy or compassion, their only version of compassion is called Foreclosure! The local Sheriff's Office decended on these squatters and these people were out on the street faster than you can blink an eye! Is there any compassion for all the failed home loans and bankruptcies around the nation? Nope! Again, homes listed, Americans put out on the streets! The only reason there is sympathy for these illegal criminals and thats what these people are is criminals is because they can be exploited for cheap labor! Like I posted a while back, an illegal Mexican hit my car, wasn't even paying attention and shrugged his shoulders like "so what!" and didn't have a license, registration or insurance and was driving a stolen car with stolen tags to boot! How many Americans have suffered in car accidents having to pay their deductables because the U.S. has all these illegal drivers? These illegals have to get around some how, how do you think they do it? Stolen cars in rural areas most of the time!

- Where did they get there polls? In Mexico?
The American people are VERY opposed to a path to citizenship, amnesty, touch back, whatever they want to call it.

You pass an income or consumption tax of 5%, to
pay for Iraq both past and future. You exempt
anybody earning under 100k, since that would
be too big of a hit tp their ability to keep
consuming and driving economic growth.
R's would end Iraq tomorrow...

- honeymoonie,
I was just thinking the same and you could be right. I just cannot see why we should lower our standards for cheap uneducated labor that cannot understand our laws, will not learn English, and assimilate into our society. - Reply to this comment
- We can stop this problem if we will address it and stop trying to have a bleeding heart. The horrors and hardship facing illegals is no different than those of other immigrants waiting legally, many of who will die before ever being granted entrance. The only difference is the willingness of illegals to defy and break US law and to use US services they should not be entitled to.

- Notice how articles that CBS or any other news outlet wants to pass off as objective, never has an author? Most Americans support illegals getting a pathway to citizenship? is that why the Dem. won't even touch this issue and why many were also inundated with letters and concerns over the rising rates of property taxes and other taxes to pay for social and school programs overburdened by illegals? Most Americans DO NOT support illegal amnesty (which these programs are) no matter what you call them, they still reward people who cut in front of others in the immigration line, disregarded laws and gave them their own track to citizenship. This is just like what happened in 1986 (which led to the influx of the millions we have now) if you reward with one hand--you provide the incentive for people to keep abusing the system. Those who enter illegal, should have DNA samples taken, fingerprints and retina scans and should be forbidden to ever become US citizens. if they are caught in the country the 2nd time--i year in jail--no probation, the 3rd time, 5 years in prison (the same for those who employ them) Their children should have "delayed citizenship to not be activated until they are 18, and this citizenship should not allow the sponsoring of any family members for 10 years. Those who come in the 4th time, should become free labor on prison farms for up to 30 years, and after they are freed--deported of course. The 5th time, life in prison with no parole.

- Time for a war tax to pay as you go for this war. it will be extremely popular with Republicans as it will be a chance for each to put their money where their mouths are. Time for all Americans to begin to suffer and pay the price for this war of choice besides with bumper stickers, letters and cookies from elementary classes.
Republicans particularly will not protest this special tax which will continue as long as the war is being fought in Iraq and will NOT increase our deficit since it will be coming out of each of our pockets each year until the war ends. Let's see...how much would that be--to really show we are willing to sacrifice for the troops? 2500.00/year per family? or should it be more if we make more...How about a 10% increase above the 2.5K for everyone making over 35K/year? A hardship? Sure--but as every American knows--war is hell and we all must do our part--plus we don't want a debt from a war of choice on our children now do we? Please feel free to forward this to your Congressmen and ask that it be introduced as a bill. Then we will see, if having a war and sacrificing it is really what Americans want to do--or if it is only something they want others to do for them. - Reply to this comment
- It was pretty sneaky of the AP reporter to conclude her story with the dubious claim that most polls show most Americans support amnesty for 12-20 million illegal aliens. She was probably just trying to persuade readers to support amnesty, which is what she personally wants. What polls is she talking about and how were the questions phrased to those polled?

- The U.S. does not need any new immigration rules or laws, all the U.S. has to do is enforce the laws already on the books. The claim is that its not practical to deport 12 million illegals. Tell that to the 12 million plus legals waiting for years in long immigration lines around the world waiting to come to the U.S. legally, those who tried to obey the law and do it right. Now the illegal criminals are rewarded with citizenship and benefits just because its too much work to kick them out. Then it just has to be too much work in my view, we have a lot to do, lets get started. The U.S. has all the laws on the books it needs right now, we don't need any new laws, enforce the laws we already have, thank you!

A funny (and striking) parallel...
I bought a bird feeder.
Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests. Then came the poop.
It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table.
Then some of the birds turned mean:
They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.
And others birds were boisterous and loud:
After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore.
I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone.
I cleaned up their mess. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal
Now lets see...
our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education
and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen.
Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services;
small apartments are housing 5 families:
you have to wa hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor:
your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box;
I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English,
and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets,
demanding more rights and free liberties.
Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.- Reply to this comment
Didn't the Speaker of House indicate a willingness to proceed on a bill if the Republicans could get the support of 70 (roughly 1/3) of their members?- Reply to this comment
- The statement: "Most national polls show Americans are overwhelmingly supportive of an immigration overhaul that would allow those here illegally to stay, work and earn their way to legal status." is a complete and total LIE.
MOST POLLS SHOW AMERICANS DO NOT FAVOR AMNESTY. FOr example:
April 28, 2007
"(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in the United States think the best way to handle illegal immigration is to efficiently observe existent regulations, according to a poll by Zogby Interactive released by UPI. 58.6 per cent of respondents think law enforcement is the solution, while 31.6 per cent favor creating a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Polling Data
Best way to fight illegal immigration
Toughen enforcement of existent laws
58.6%
Creating a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants
31.6%
Source: Zogby Interactive / UPI
Methodology: Online interviews with 5,932 American adults, conducted from Apr. 13 to Apr. 16, 2007. Margin of error is 1.3 per cent." - Reply to this comment
- Bush is the devil. Democrats, don't make deals with him. Wait until the REpublicscums are voted out, then develop a humane but firm immigration policy once he's gone. Bushit has nothing we need. No reason for Bonzo to get credit for a *** thing. The only reasons Bonzo wants more immigrants is 1) cheap labor for his corporate masters and 2) more cannon fodder for the wars of global domination by the Christo-fascists. He could care less about them as people. They're just pawns in his game.

That's what happens when a proud, strong, independent citizenry is reduced to a mere consumer. We've become grist for the Wall Street mill, nothing more, nothing less. We have no country and absolutely no power. It's naive to think otherwise. - Reply to this comment

Of course Junior wants immigration on the
"front burner". Anything to divert from his
other collosal failures and corruptions.
Every American should see the Moyers report
from last week, documenting how our "liberal"
press totally rubberstamped him on Iraq and
failed their mission of true information.
You can watch it on your computer;

You won't be getting up once you start into it,
it's riveting. Pass the link on please -- Reply to this comment
- Yes,
My father has told me that also, "Mexican laborers are known as the most unruly, the lazy-iest, and the least cooperative and law-abiding people on earth".
I have found them to be stubborn and unable to reason to logic. They have a Country Village mentality with no common sense. - Reply to this comment
