Democrat Says Republican Front-Runner Is Engaging In "Politics Of Fear"
- Notblue,
You simply cannot compare WWII and the war in Iraq.
Why, simple. Congress declared war on Germany and Japan.
Last I checked there has not been a declaration of war by congress. - Reply to this comment
- Hungary, what if our fathers and grandfathers had put an arbitrary time limit on WWII?? Either you believe we are in a GLOBAL conflict or you don't, if not, you can surely justify retreat but if you admit this is a global war of ideology then arbitrary retreat dates will do nothning to further the U.S. security and do nothing to help in the fight against Islamic radicalism.

- From CNN.com:
"Some Democratic leaders seem to believe that blind opposition to the new strategy in Iraq is good politics," Cheney told reporters at the Capitol after attending the weekly Republican policy lunch. "Senator Reid himself has said that the war in Iraq will bring his party more seats in the next election."
And why do you think that is... b e c a u s e the american people are tired of their tax dollars being spent on babysitting a country that we never should have invaded in the first place.
Republicans, Bush mainly, has forgotten that this country's government is "For the people, By the people" If you go against the majority of american...its very simple, you lose your job. That is what is happened in congress last year. That is what will happen next year in congress and the white house. - Reply to this comment
- ckcool, if the radicals could be subdued and some semblance of security could be acheived then the training process would move at a faster rate. it's hard to recruit Iraqi security forces when the police stations are one of the radicals primary targets.

- Huskerarmy while the scenario you describe regarding Iran is maybe not in the best interest of the U.S. or the rest of the free world, letting the radicals retake Iraq through violence as apposed to democracy is still a far worse outcome for the Iraqi people and the stabalization of the middle east in general.

- ckcool the plan for Iraq is when they can do that we will leave it's pretty simple. If we leave now and they are not yet ready to defend themselves and there new government then the bad guys win.

So if we can somehow squash the insurgency, and allow the democratically elected shiite government proceed, you will be satisifed notblue? In spite of the fact that most of those elected have sympathies with and/or ties to Iran? - Reply to this comment
- notblue,
So by your logic all we should be doing in Iraq is trainging. Because wouldn't that prepare them to take complete control?
This war effort has been mismangaged since the begining. Now the place is such a mess that it will take years if not decades for all fighting to stop. I don't know about some people but how much time does it take to train the Iraq people for the military and police? How long is basic training for the army? I'm sure basic training doesn't last over a year.
I support the bill in congress that withdraws most military by Oct of next year, leaving behind a training force to continue training.
The problem in Iraq is that the US military is not concentrating on training the Iraq military and police, they are just saying hey don't worry about it, we'll do the job for you. - Reply to this comment
- Go get him Barack! Those comments are despicable, the lowest form of politics. Republicans have no monopoly on patriotism (or morals, as we have seen.) In comparison, Barack Obama has a thousand times more class than Rudy. Rudy is just a typical party boy politician, drunk with power. And the sad thing is, he is, so far, the best candidate on the Republican roster.

I never said that they didn't want democracy. I simply said why don't we leave them alone to handle their own country.
Wouldn't it be nice if Bush actually concentrated on issues in this country rather than issues halfway around the world? When is the last time you heard anything from bush remotely related to improving things here at home. Every speach he makes lately has been about Iraq this, money for Iraq please, give me a blank check..or a credit card with no limit. Since you do not want to withdraw from Iraq, what conditions should be met for the US to withdraw from Iraq? - Reply to this comment

Oh please. So now everyone with Hussein in their name is a terrorist-lover? Grow up. - Reply to this comment
- ck cool 12 million Iraqi citizens voted for democracy under the threat of death with a greater voter turnout prercentage than we see here in the U.S. Please explain why you seem to believe that the vast majority of Iraqis would rather be ruled by a barbaristic 6th century ideology of oppresion, death and complete lack of human rights. I for one believe this insurgency is being carried out by a tiny majority and mayhem and suicide attacks are the only way to disrupt the process the vast majority of Iraqis voted for.

- huskerarmy, I'm betting that victory in Iraq will do more to defeat radical Islam than retreating will. I guess we all will get to see which strategy will make the most gains in the long run. I for one would love to believe that surrender would end all the violence but if history is any indicator surrender will not make us safer. It's just my opinion.

- Have you ever noticed that Iran is very close to Iraq, and how Bush has been dancing around Iran? Threating Iran etc. Could it be possible that Bush wanted to invade Iraq so that the US Military could use Iraq as a staging zone for Iran...there's an idea.

That was an still is a declared goal of the neoconservative movement. they honestly believe that, through military force, they can establish what they refer to as an "Arch of democracy" stretching from Afghanistan, through Iran and Iraq and ending in Lebanon. Iran and Syria are next on their hit parade and they WILL think up even more lies to go to war with them next. They really are that insane. They honestly believe it is America's destiny to rule the world, and they will work toward that goal. This is a New Crusade to "Americanize" the region, if the current residents like it or not. Or even if most Americans want it or not. - Reply to this comment
- Notblue,
One question, how can victory be possible in an ocupation. I thought we won wars. I didn't know that you win an ocupation? Just a thought.
OH, and one question...who are we too tell the Iraq people what type of government to establish. Or are we Scared to let the Iraq people think for themselves? One thing is certain, Bush is affraid to let the Iraq governemnt take complete control of the country. Bush said that 'power' was handed over what last year, year before? but how can a government rule its country if there is another country's military still there along with diplomats and generals telling them how to run their country. Sounds like the US is simply a babysitter for Iraq. - Reply to this comment
- "...but it all comes back to the fact that we will pull out of Iraq because the majority of the American people want that to happen. And even a republican president can't tell them to go to hell forever."
