Give me a break,i'm on food stamps and i eat really well.the vast majority of people on food stamps are fat.what they get for food stamps is more than enough to get buy and get the needed nutrition.....i live on 33 dollars a week on food stamps...

Then PLEASE Be kind enough to NOT use all of it. Let it be returned to feed those that DO NOT get such a generous amount if you're actually telling the truth and NOT making up a story to feed the self righteous false ammunition.
My mother gets $18 PER MONTH. Try eating on that!

You will NEVER eliminate poverty. Jesus himself said, "you will always have the poor among you."

Typical Neocon response -since it's in the Bible let's create or keep it that way. Thus all the nut cases working so hard to start Armageddon and bring on Jesus.
Falls in the same category as the wackos on the Islamic side trying for the 12th Imam.

In the meantime, while the country is distracted by the whining about "welfare mothers cheating the system" the attention is taken off all the NERON'S, Pension theft scandals, Regulation changes that result in BILLIONS more going to oil corporations and the scandalous misuse and "missing funds for our military and The OIL GRAB going on at our taxpayer expense in IRAQ.

CAN WE SAY PENNY WISE AND POUND FOOLISH.

"Yeah!! Great idea. Let's make the kids and elderly work to earn their food stamps."

Caca, I'm certain you really know what I said. No one suggests that the needy don't get the assistance they require. What has to stop is providing the alcoholic, drug addicted scumbags who have new cars, cell phones, lots of Illegitimate children, with entitlements. The system needs monitoring.

I agree with you about eliminating the immigrant labor and keeping jobs in the USA. I didn't mean to get you so riled up on a beautiful Monday morning.

Which is EXACTLY why a democracy (representative republic) will not last. Our little experiment in freedom & greatness will be consumed by greed.... not corporate greed, PERSONAL greed.
Posted by Infidel_US at 01:15 PM : Apr 23, 2007

Sounds more like YOU ARE THE DETRACTOR. To state that a system that's lasted over 200 years is destined to fail sure sounds like you despise and have NO confidence in our great nation.
I will agree that PERSONAL GREED (and corruption) are at the root of the current problems but it is the PERSONAL GREED OF THE POLITICAL AND CORPORATE ELITE which owns more than the rest of the population COMBINED and WANTS EVEN MORE that is the REAL CAUSE.
A corporation is merely the "device" used by people to avoid PERSONAL responsibility for the potential failure(s) of their creation.
Every economist or scientist would agree that an UNBALANCED system will seek equilibrium.
As far as your attempt to paint me as something less than a TRUE citizen; I believe I have BY FAR better credentials than you. Aside from relatives clear back to before the Revolutionary War; I have 20+ years in the military, quite a bit of volunteer work, have taught all walks of life, raised my children to be successful economically and more important with VALUES.
I pity your kind. They usually end life wealthy, bitter and lonely but NOT rich. RICH is SO MUCH MORE THAN MONEY.

1- I just do not understand how the poor become poor, most of the homeless people I see in the streets may not have money for food or a home but they sure do have enough for a beer or what they call a 40. I live in CA. Los Angeles County and you see alot of that.

2- If you need the food stamps get it but not for years, it does not take a person 3 years to find a job. But it sure takes a women to pop out 3 kids in less than 5 years, knowing she don't even have a job. She is low income the does qualify for what they call Family Planning..condoms, pills, the patch, depo etc. But she knows the more kids the more money.

I hate going to the store on the 1st of the month, I see these women paying with their EBT card with their nails done, luxury jewelry. I will walk out right behind them and OMG!! They are driving on a new SUV or car. What the!!

Most of these women report they live "solo" and claim baby daddy do not live @ home and you go to most of these womes houses and BOOM!! The man is at home...he works but she don't. How could it be that the Walfare office not ask them why? If you don't have a job why are you pregnant again?

The WAR yes I agree it sucks...we are spending money lots of it too, but we also need to cut down all this welafare to this fraud, sick minded people.

%u201CShe was explaining to someone that she had to go meet an individual who sold their stamps to her every month.%u201D

First off, as a concerned citizen (and tax payer) you had a duty to report this crime to DHS. When we see crimes like this taking place it is our responsibility to take action and notify the proper authorities.

%u201CFor example, if you get pregnant in high school, chances are you will never graduate and go to college.%u201D

Second, I take offence to the generalization of this statement. I got pregnant my Senior year in high school. I was eventually able to go back and get my college degree. It was not the easiest thing to do while raising my son, but it is do-able.

One more thing....since Johnson's "war on poverty" started back in the early 60's, we taxpayers (listening you dems?) have spent TRILLIONS on poverty. And, as you said, it's only getting worse.

So I would say that your program has FAILED. Let's try it MY way for a change. Put down the fiddycent and snoooy dog CD's and do a little studying in school for a change.

Be a participator in the American program instead of a separatist in an "underground subculture." Try being part of the country you occupy rather than a detractor of it - for a change.

Our neocon elite are playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship. Hopefully we don't get to that tipping point; but that depends on how unbalanced and arrogant things get.

Which is EXACTLY why a democracy (representative republic) will not last. Our little experiment in freedom & greatness will be consumed by greed.... not corporate greed, PERSONAL greed.

As the ranks of the poor and uneducated grow, they still have the right to vote - unfortunately. And the people they vote for are people who promise them more than they contribute. "Take from the rich and give to the poor".....it's right out of the communist manifesto. You will NEVER eliminate poverty. Jesus himself said, "you will always have the poor among you."

Let me quote you some American history...."if you mean to have a war, then let it begoin here."

Hey, next time a poor man gives you a job, please write us all and let us know. If you'd rather live in France, there are boats and planes leaving every day. Please do us all a favor and go.

Maybe you should study how our economy works and quit whining.
Posted by Infidel_US at 11:52 AM : Apr 23, 2007

Let me write you and let you know.
I get by on a small pension and probably could easily qualify for "poor". Even so, when the local beggar that's worse off than me goes door to door asking for work because he can't afford transportation to an area that may have jobs, It's usually the "poor" in this town that find something to "hire" him for.
There's a whole different world than you live in out there.
A world of poor, an "underground" structure that is increasing every day.
The same happened the France you mentioned with disastrous results to the ruling class during that time.
This country has had a few revolts but not one as extensive and shattering as a revolt of the poor. When the poor become an angry majority and they feel they have NOTHING TO LOSE it quickly becomes chaos until an economic power balance is believed to be restored by the majority.
Sort of like IRAQ currently and France in their Revolution. Maybe they know something you're missing.
Our neocon elite are playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship. Hopefully we don't get to that tipping point; but that depends on how unbalanced and arrogant things get.

So Bush wants to slash benefits for people who are already slowly starving.

Meanwhile, the top three hundred thousand taxpayers are raking in as much as the bottom one hundred fifty MILLION combined.

This administration doesn't give a flying fig about the rest of the country so long as they and their friends get richer.

"BTW, lefties, stop demonizing Gates. The man has given away over 60% of his wealth to all manner of charities, including starting a few of his own - I 'highly' doubt most of you would do the same or to that magnitude." Posted by pixelslinger at 12:04 PM : Apr 23, 2007

Only 60%?? How many "BILLIONS" does it take to live the life of the wealthy?

And he's not exactly GIVING it away without the expectation of benefiting the profits of Microsoft. You might want to educate yourself about how and where Gates is "investing" his "charity." Some countries and local governments are even rejecting his "offers" because they have "strings" attached. Strings that are tied back to Microsoft. LOL!!

Study your history "out of the box." Think for yourself!

As for what you "think" I would do with my "wealth" (if I had any)? You have no clue... I'm far from wealthy, or rich, and I contribute to charities that help the less fortunate.

I LOVE it!!! Someone here is griping about a CASHIER who scams a WHOLE $150 HAHAHAHA. Watch out there Billionaires there's change on the floor that you haven't scooped up before the BEGGARS got it!
REALLY! And how about that Corporate SCAMSTER that JUST GOT AWAY with OVER 200 MILLION dollars squirreled away admittedly in OFFSHORE accounts???
Why? Because one of Gonzales' 2nd rate Attys couldn't cite the "correct statute" for some (corrupt?) reason.

200 Million dollars is a LOT OF "food stamps" for that game playing "winner".

Ironically enough, some people in this country think the answer to getting out of poverty is just "getting a job".

Tell you what.... take a one month sabbatical from your current job. Just go out and find another - easiest way is to walk down to your local McDonald's or another resturant and become a waiter - or maybe a gas station attendant at minimum wage. Go through the whole month with your minimum wage job, without using a nickle of your other savings, and see how well you do with feeding your family, much less youself, putting gas in the tank, or whatnot.

After all, since the answer to poverty is just "going out and getting a job", I'm sure you'll be just fine.

BTW, lefties, stop demonizing Gates. The man has given away over 60% of his wealth to all manner of charities, including starting a few of his own - I 'highly' doubt most of you would do the same or to that magnitude.

My mother after spending her life helping others and working as a dishwasher/cleaning lady for a school had a stroke at 67 and had to retire. Her ENTIRE retirement pension is about $100 and her social security for her lifetime of work is around $500. She was told she didn't qualify for disability due to her age.
SHE is one of the people the self righteous idiots here claim are "scamming the system". I tried to help by taking her to seek assistance. To start 3 to 4 years ago she received a generous $150 in food stamps which within a year was cut to $18 per month while her utilities doubled, the cost of food,,toiletries etc. shot up and forget about transportation -the 20 year old Lincoln she kept spotlessly clean, was ruined after a "friend" decided to "borrow" it. Now she makes do. I bring what I can and she has friends that try to help.
There IS NO "Senior food box" that I know of and never has been around here.
The few rural charities that used to be there are getting fewer and farther between.
She's fighting hard to find ways to squeeze every penny and selling off what she has left to make ends meet.
Meanwhile, The self Righteous are stuffing their offshore accounts with bonanza tax cuts and war profits. So much for a so called "Christian" nation.
But then The neocon Bible says it's their god given right to play "winner takes all" and that the "losers" just are too stupid to deserve FAIR AND JUST TREATMENT.

They have no reservations about corporate welfare. Tax write-offs and "incentives" are on the other hand not an "entitlement." It's a birth right.

Isn't your litmus test for a "slacker" anyone who earns less than 50,000 a year? I would be horrified at the prospect of you making the determination of who is deserving and who isn't....
Posted by huskerarmy at 11:40 AM : Apr 23, 2007

No, my definition is someone who makes poor choices in life, i.e., taking drugs, dropping out of school, getting pregnant before you have the ability to take care of the person(s) you bring in to the world, someone who is too lazy to actually go find a job and EARN a living.

I know libs are all about making excuses instead of taking personal responsibility.....or, better yet, blaming Bush for putting them where they are. I wouldn't expect you to comprehend.

These individuals have always appeared to be scuzzy, trashy, dirty and stupid looking, and quite qualified for such an entitlement benefit.

There's that word again, 'entitlement'. And look at the class of person who likes to use it. Calling less fortunate individuals scuzzy, trashy, dirty and stupid looking. Makes me wonder what you look like, drivel. I'll bet you're all starched with slicked back hair. You probably lick you comb everytime you pass it through your greasy hair.

Anyway, you are certainly a credit to your neocon creed.
