Actually, the firings are not legal regardless of the reason. If the firings were to precipitate appointments to subvert justice or to skew actual cases then obstruction of justice could be construed. The President does have the right to appoint US attorneys and to fire them or hire them for any reason--as interpreted by precedence but that is not a law and that right NEVER included being able to stack the courts or skew justice to prejudice or dispense laws based on party. If it has been found that such a thing occurred, then Bush is in deep trouble, rights or not. there is a thing called the nuance of law, and that means going beyond the implied right to the true intent and the ramification of subversion.

I remember well when Congress passed and the THEN President Gerald R. Ford signed this Law. I just, for some reason, do not believe "I didn't mean too" is going to get it this time.
