Ignoring Bush Veto Threat, Senate Approves Bill Setting Deadline For Troop Withdrawal
- WHEN OUR TROOPS DO COME HOME WE MUST HELP THEM. Here is a solution without raising everyone%u2019s taxes or rent. While politicians are fighting on the needed emergency funding for Veterans, a new type of DRAFT must be implemented Out of Patriotic duty, and the future of our economy, just 1/4 of the more affluent private medical/mental health facilities must use their office and expertise just a few hours a month for some of our young vets. By temporally picking up the slack for the grossly under funded, over booked and under staffed VAMCs, each of our young kids/veterans will have a chance to resume a comfortable life as a productive member of the society for which they offered to give up their own life to serve and protect. Even attorneys do pro-bono to help out society.Since WWI the medical field and drug companies have greatly benefited from the research they have done involving our veterans. A few months ago 60 minutes did a segment entitled A Pill To Forget? It was about the drug used for high blood pressure;Propranolol, which is believed can help to cure PTSD if prescribed off-label, can help the memory be erased. The story ended saying the military has provided funding to test this theory on veterans returning home from this war. It is time the private medical community return the favor and knowledge they have already received from our veterans. Too many veterans from past wars have ended up as just a number in a research project, helping society once again!

- What do you mean a "Pull Out Bill"?
The Senate PASSED THE FUNDING BILL FOR THE TROOPS
If Bush signs it the troops have the money AND come home before the 4th quarter 2008.
If Bush vetos it the troops will not have the money and they will start home next month.
There is nothing that says a vetoed bill must be re-considered in either the House or the Senate.
Whether or not the troops get the money is now entirely up to Mr. Bush. Win, Lose, or Draw at this point Mr. Bush is 100 percent responsable.
Let us hope he stays sober enough to make the correct choice as it is his turn to PUT UP or SHUT UP - Reply to this comment

- Now that the troops are fully funded it is up to Mr. Bush to either sign off or veto the measure. If he signs off the troops come home in the 3rd quarter 2008. If he vetos the troops come home in the 2nd quarter 2007. Either way the troops come home. If Mr. Bush does not calm down and/or get off the booze he may veto the measure thinking he will get another bite of the apple. He would be wrong to think so. A veto of the measure would kill the measure as there are not sufficient Americans in Congress to over-ride. But there need not be any need whatsoever to re-introduce a vetoed measure at all. In this event the measure is dead, there is no funding, and the troops come home next month. Frankly there is no downside involved here at all.
