Funny how some articles have a comment section and some haven't.

When there is no fear of criminal implication against oneself, there is no 5th Amendment. Which means that Ms. Goodling can only invoke this if she fears that she has done something which is prosecutable under the law.

Actually it does because she is one of the key officials involved in the firings, and when the democrats are on a perjury hunt or witch hunt every republican in the country has reason to worry. Anyway, what does that have to do with anything?

"Monica Goodling, a key Justice Department official involved in the firings of U.S. prosecutors, will invoke a constitutional privilege against self-incrimination and refuse to answer questions at upcoming congressional hearings, her lawyer said Monday."

The 5th amendment should not apply to her case ... she is not asked to be a witness against herself.

(...) nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself (...)

"Anyway, warrants were obtained in courts for wire surveillance, though they were obtained secretly in order to not alert potential guilty people."

Congratulations. Event Tony Snow didn't think about that one ...
That's why they were called warrantless wiretaps.

If Hagel really thinks what he says why wouldn't he be the one to start pushing for impeachment or is it just talking points.

The wiretap was directed against people who are not American citizens, and the constitution doesn't protect those who are not Americans. Anyway, warrants were obtained in courts for wire surveillance, though they were obtained secretly in order to not alert potential guilty people.

On the subject of corrupting the constitution: Clinton, Roosevelt, and Kennedy all damaged our government. Bush has not yet violated the constitution.

I%u2019m aware of the financial hold that congress has, but that was not meant to e a check. The power of impeachment, and the power to overturn a veto are the checks: the funds allocation power was not meant to be a check.

Finally, the president%u2019s salary cannot be increased nor diminished during his time in office according to Article 2 of the constitution.
