Scott/Sarge,
I don't think that a pro-choice, pro affirmative action, black man would stand a chance of getting enough Republican or southern votes to win election as a dog catcher, much less president of the U.S. He would have had to of run as a Dem to have any chance at all.

Agreed. But he would not have run as a Democrat. And he may have seen the obsacles I cited and therfore decided not to run at all. The media claimed it was his wife, Alma, who was worried for his safety as a black man running for president. He did not dispute that, but I don't buy it.

He is definitely the person who could restart the 'Grand Old Party'. If the RNC had any sense they would be on their knees begging him as we speak.

Considering the he is tarnished for life after Bush's prostitution of him before the UN, it's all just pissing in the wind in the final analysis.....

"He had to be holding his nose for the last year and a half....."
...Or his gut.

I also believe that he left at the end of Bush's first term because he knew he had perpetuated a lie. This was a sad end to an otherwise stellar career for Powell. And that really is too bad.

Agreed on all counts. I believe the only reason he stayed until the end of the term was because of his sense of duty. He had to be holding his nose for the last year and a half.....

Too bad that Powell was disgraced by Bush's prostitution of him before the UN, eh? He is a Repub I could vote for. But he's now tarnished for life......

It was appropriate that he announced on Letterman since his swing to appease the right wing wackos in his party render his entire campaign a joke. He is just an older version of King George the Younger - pander, pander, pander!

Has anyone noticed that ever since the board was repaired from placing *** between every word, that the time of the posting is 8 minutes off?

I haven't voted for a Republican in 20 years now! From the looks of things, it will be a cold day in hell before I ever do again! Where I am not completely happy with Democrat's they are the least of the evil's on the stage. The Republican's have gotten so far out in right field they are out of sight anymore. Their special interest groups (religion and big business) run the party and it's policies anymore! They have a completely distorted view of the Constitution and what it stands for. They twist it to fit their agenda. It was the ruination of the Republican party when ultra conservative's took over. I won't vote for them again until they lose the whole mess. If they do that they won't have any voting base left.

"Republicans need to nominate a real conservative, someone who will wage a real war, and protect us."
I certainly hope they do... That line of thinking could help to rid of the plutocrat, neo-con corruption for years to come. Wars that destract us from security at home and serve as a "cause celeb" for recruiting terrorists are not exactly what most Americans are thinking is the best way to "protect us."
