While I too wish this vote had more teeth, its a necessariy forst step. Not a first step to defund the troops, but a first step to force the President to REALLY listen to more than a small group of right wing ideologues.

These idoelogies used 9/11 to further their misguided mid-east agenda. Importantly, they were not interested in a real honest debate. They used questionable intelligence to build a case that the majority of Americans would believe.

So this vote, is a vote to tell Bush that he can't ignore the people, and we don't like being mislead. After which, perhaps the congress can have a more meaningful debate on what specific steps they think would actually move things forward.

But to leave this to GW and his inner circle .. that's SIT AND SPIN all over.

I am very happy that your niece made it home safely. I hope with all my might that she doesn't get called up again.

I agree bring 'em home or not but don't hamstring 'em. I say bring 'em home.

What we all need to realize here is that we lost to the terrorists years ago right after 9/11.

When we changed our way of life in the name of "keeping us safe", when we became afraid of everything, when an advertising campaign utilizing basically "lite brite boxes" scared Boston spitless, when we let the government take away our freedoms with nary a whimper, the terrorists won. Resoundingly.

Particularly in light of that, the fact that a non-binding, toothless resolution is the best the Democrats can manage is extremely sad and disappointing. Maybe they could give the president a time-out too?

They're just doing a roll call for Murtha. Now they'll turn the old war-dog loose on Bush and company. Murtha will make him squeal like a little piggy!!

Iraq was a mess before we got there (neater, though) is a helluva mess now, and will be a mess when we leave, probably worse. Bringing refugees over, as many as we can assimilate, and bringing our troops home may be the best we can do under the circumstances.

Bush is a total disaster.

Baldman,, Friend, Dems are to blame for giving Bush the authority for war then failing to stop him ---- But this is the situation,,, Bush blames Sadr & Sheiit Militia leaders,, when they support his Secuity Plan,,,, Bush blames Cuds in the north, when Cuds help Iraqi's that support America's efforts ---- Bush doesn' blame Sunni's for causing 96% of our casualties (They are Arab)

Clearly, the Bush "strategy" in Iraq is a tragic, bloody failure. It only makes sense, in fact, in the context of an attempt to initiate endless war, which is a well-known tactic of dictators as they find people more easily controlled when there is a common enemy. This also makes sense of the current saber-rattling and "confidence" that Iran is attacking American troops in Iraq.

Particularly in light of that, the fact that a non-binding, toothless resolution is the best the Democrats can manage is extremely sad and disappointing. Maybe they could give the president a time-out too?

"The government is reading your mail" -
- Good let them,, The FBI already knows how I feel, I let them know years ago if WMD's weren't found they'd better arrest Bush.

anyone who emails blog posters on POLITICAL boards SHOULD be scared sh~tless.

The government is reading your mail
But that's nothing new -- a Bush signing statement reminds us how little we know about hush-hush postal-monitoring programs, and how vulnerable they are to abuse.
