Comments on: Centrist Dem Leader Slams GOP "Hypocrisy"
Harold Ford Jr. Says Republicans Don't Practice What They Preach
- I'm a 21 yr Christian Democrat. I grew up learning about all the things Jesus has done and how I should live a Christian life. It wasn't until I had to vote for a president did I realize how conflicted I was.
My whole church was divided down the middle. I just don't understand how people can claim to be Christians and have so much hate for groups of people who are different. At one point I thought I was growing up believing in the wrong religion. But I realized, it's the people who are wrong not the religion.
I'm just tired, and feel it's disgraceful for this government to use Christianity as a tool to win people over. If Bush is really a true Christian, he wouldn't have to go around trying to promote himself as one. It would just show in the things he's done and will do, but so far he's just proving that he's the devil who starts wars, spreads hate, and has the need to kill. - Reply to this comment

- Once upon a time the republican party was actually not a too bad alternative to democrats. True republican conservatives (like Barry Goldwater, the father of modern conservatism) don't believe in budget deficits, even for war. They don't believe in foreign entanglements and tend to be more isolationist. They don't believe in government interference in people's private lives and are appalled at the idea of the government spying on Americans. They are live and let live people and even Goldwater was pro choice, not because he liked abortion, but because he believed it was none of the governments business. They were religious, but strongly believed in the separation of church and state, because they didn't want the government sticking it's nose in their religion.
Personally I think real republicans, real conservatives, are extinct. It's a shame really. - Reply to this comment

Well said. Everyone thinks they have God on their side and that they are in possession of the absolute truth. The beginning of real wisdom is the realization that you know nothing. - Reply to this comment
Jesus was a liberal. He went against the conservative religeous establishment and was killed for it.
The modern Christian church is a Pharisee church. If Jesus came back today they'd cricify him all over again.- Reply to this comment
- When are people going to understand that religion is largely the problem, that we need to "graduate" from religion in order to achieve a higher level of spirituality, a closer relationship with God? Whether it be the Mid-East or U.S. elections, Christians, Jews and Muslims are all a part of the problem. My hope is that we are on the verge of viewing religion as we currently view elementary school, necessary for our education, but important to graduate from in order to continue our journey.
