- We need a real person as a leader, not an internet or television personality. If one of these people can show themselves as they really are and not as a political identity I may vote for them, if not it will be a choice between the lesser of two evils again.

- American families and voters did not sign up to be military evangelists for democracy. Hitting back in Afghanistan, and then assisting Afghanistan to its feet afterwards is a complete winner. But somehow twisting that reasoning to encompass Iraq was a loser. Iraq had no link to 9/11.
Bush's actions have resulted in an Al Qaeda presence in Iraq, in the midst of a civil war. Our problem is getting out of this war of attrition, and avoiding a recurrence of any further neocon adventures. I am listening closely to Hillary Clinton, listening to her statements about Iraq and foreign policy. She needs to say more, but I think she is going to be on target. - Reply to this comment

My information comes from a sailor who was one of those in charge of the setup for the speech on the Abraham Lincoln on that day. He says the banner was for the sailors on that ship going home.
Do you still think it's funny? - Reply to this comment

- "We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We are bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous. We are pursuing and finding leaders of the old regime, who will be held to account for their crimes. We have begun the search for hidden chemical and biological weapons, and already know of hundreds of sites that will be investigated. We are helping to rebuild Iraq, where the dictator built palaces for himself, instead of hospitals and schools. And we will stand with the new leaders of Iraq as they establish a government of, by, and for the Iraqi people. The transition from dictatorship to democracy will take time, but it is worth every effort. Our coalition will stay until our work is done. And then we will leave %u2014 and we will leave behind a free Iraq."

I suppose you missed the memo...
The "Mission Accomplished" banner was meant for the sailors on the carrier. Their mission was accomplished, and they were going home. It was also the end of the major military operation to foust Saddam from rule. The President did say in that same speech that hostilies would continue, and are military would remain in Iraq.
Did you not hear him say that, or did you just watch the sound-bite on CBS? - Reply to this comment
