No specific evidence SamtheTVcat. Just a war weary region with intelligent young people who will no doubt find their way through these dark days. One article I read over NewYear holiday was in the April issue Smithsonian magazine (yes, just getting around to reading it) called, "Saudi Arabia's Youthquake" which highlighted the bright intelligent youth of the region. Maybe I'm an eternal optimist but a united democratic Middle East would be very very cool.

the signing of this accountability and enhancement act if a severe insult to the very core of what makes america the land of the free. the president is supposed to be on our side but this whole thing makes me wonder how free america really is anymore? i'm not a real comfortable with politics or politians, but president bush's father and mother were the the only bush's i feel like supporting in any avenue for any reason?

I can't wait for the Dems to get their hands on the records of all the wiretappings that the FBI's been doing the last couple of years. Even though it's warrantless, the FBI was supposed to have specific evidence of terrorist activity before they invaded peoples privacy. And I don't know if this is true or just gossip but I heard they even wiretapped Paula Abdul because, well, her name is Abdul and her dad's like of Egyptian descent or something . . . if true, I don't know if this exactly ought to count as like 'specific evidence' - geez . . .

I think he is telling the truth, that the threat to our and the world's security required taking out Saddam Hussein and that the restructuring of the Middle East will be a success.

BellaL do you have any specific evidence that leads you to believe that the restructuring of the Middle East will be a success? I've done some research myself and come to the opposite conclusion based on stuff like the lack of success in establishing democracies where none have existed before, etc. But often people will have consulted other sources - like it's hard for any one person to be completely thorough (at least that's what I've found to be true with respect to me). Have you based your conclusion on any particular cases or is that just like a 'gut' feeling or a confidence you feel in GW that leads you to conclude that he will succeed? Thanks :)

Again, the founding fathers of this nation are probably turning in their graves, and are probably disgusted by what this president continues to do to the very paper he so swore to protect. Our Constitution continues to be made a mockery of by this president. So, I'm hoping that the new 110th Congress puts an end to this administration's arrogance, and misguided ulterior ambitions/motives. I quote Benjamin Franklin, "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security." So the question again is, "Is the potential loss of privacy worth the gain in security?" I think not! My fellow countrymen/countrywomen, write your congressmen/congresswomen advising they do their job by standing up to the executive branch. The legislative branch must execute oversight for it is its responsibility. Congress, as a co-equal, must protect our Constitution.

"With Democrats now in control of Congress, don't be surprised if we see an investigation into these sorts of uses of signing statements and of the White House's legal authority to undertake searches like this without a warrant or other court order," Cohen said."

Bout time, investigations need to start immediately. I would use private package/envelope handlers like UPS/DHL than the Post office.
I know for a fact US customs opens first class mail and has since at least the 80's

bellaL... YOU THINK BUSH IS TELLING THE TRUTH?!?!? If you think SADDAM was the GREATEST THREAT to US, then YOU must ALSO believe Bush was telling the truth when he said that Osama Bin Ladin has been "marginalized" and that he was no longer important as a Target for our armed forces!! WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE COME FROM?

America is FASCIST.

Corporate Monopolies Rule our Government. The Iraq War is just business as usual. Our "News" is State Sponcered PROPOGANDA.

The RICH only Fear Death and the Loss of Power. The only way that will happen is through YOU. The People. The Masses.

On the funnier side, just think about all the Adult Packages the Feds get to open. I can't wait to see what they see in Mark Foley's mailbox. Actually, that I can DO WITHOUT!!!

Here's a question for ALL BUSH SUPPORTERS; Is THIS the Guy you REALLY WANTED to be the LEADER of the "FREE" WORLD? If so, please explain.
Posted by wayfedup at 10:45 PM : Jan 04, 2007

I'll take that challenge. No, he is not the leader I would have chosen nor did I support the invasion of Iraq. But I have come to be a Bush supporter. That's a 180 degree shift. I think he is telling the truth, that the threat to our and the world's security required taking out Saddam Hussein and that the restructuring of the Middle East will be a success.

Bush is fighting against freedom. Every phone call and every mail made by every non-Republican American is stored in a database in Texas. But while everyone is finally waking up to phone calls and mail, they don't realize that this administration is doing far worse to their critics than just collecting phone calls and mail.

I guess Bush will be the "NEXT PUBLISHER'S CLEARINGHOUSE WINNER" by virtue of having the winning letter in his greedy little paws.

This little F***ing Fascist SOB thinks he can write his OWN laws??? With some BS "signing statement"?

Where in the US Constitution does it mention signing statements? You NeoCon diehards still think you are being patriotic to support Bush? You and Bush are UnAmerican to the core.

It is simply mind boggling that the American sheeple still allow this War Criminal to remain in power.

"Boy"

It's not that it takes all kinds.

It's simply that there are all kinds.

Complaining doesn't fix a flat tire and complaining isn't going to turn Bush or the Iraqi situation into something you will be happy with.

Get smart. Get brave. Get control of yourself.

we need to work together.

"Today we have drug dealers, pedophiles, terrorists and dozens of other threats to the nest of freedom, hovering in carrion facion, to prey on everyone who is not in the high cost light of freedom, and freedom costs."

Then why isn't Bush targeting *them*? Why does he want the power to investigate _every_ American? Why can't he use the legal system, which are predisposed to countering those threats? Are ALL Americans drug dealers, pedophiles, terrorists, and "dozens of other threats"?

I am sorry to see that someone who once perhaps served this country bravely now so declined in courage that he can no longer stand for liberty against a tyrant. You can't even recognize one.

bildooreilly

My grandfather flew biplanes in WWI, My dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor on the Tennessee and my mom was in counter intelligence in the European Theater during WWII. I was in Vietnam and my twin is Army about to be activated for Iraq. Like I said the cost of freedom is heavy.

I'm referring to every predator of freedom. Just because a homeland security agent screwed up doesn't mean this country doesn't deserve security.

One of the most important ingredients of truth is proportion. Don't loose yours.

We've both paid dearly.
