Comments on: Ford: Reasons For Iraq War 'A Big Mistake'
Former President Criticized Bush In Now-Released Interview From 2004
- Americans have four very large dogs that get disordely when bored, destroying furniture and invading remote gardens. They are their oil and armement industries, their political and military machines and their news industry with self-important talking heads. We have tiny Yorkies or Poms that do bark a lot, especially when they see large dogs going wild next door. Pity the poor Americans when these monsters shed and ***. Our animals excrete stuff you can pick up with tweezers when it's dry.

- As a Canadian I don't jump up to rip a man down for his opinions as Former-President Ford gave. I have noticed at most Americans do respond viciously, when they disagree with someone. I try to think of were Former-President Ford was coming from.
Does anyone in the U.S. remember a little war call Vietnam, yes that war - of which Former-President Ford was not only part of, but front and centre for as Vice & President.
He is talking about first hand experience of going down the long and endless road of war. And I think he held his tongue when he said he just "very strongly" disagreed with the Iraq war.
War is about two things:
(1) - forcing your opinion on to others and
(2) - money (how much can be made).
Example for no. (2) - How many bombs, missiles, tanks, jeeps, jets, helicopters, guns bullets, grenades & mortars and of course don't forget medical supplies, blood, painkillers, widow veils, body-bags, coffins can be sold to the Government?
Of the last two - actually items used - U.S. Deaths with pending DoD Confirmation: 2992 body-bags and U.S. Deaths Confirmed By The DoD: 2983 coffins, with many more to come.
In death, Former-President Gerald Ford's words should hold more weight, especially when in comes from not only a former soldier, but a man who was involved with running a war.
May God walk, with such a good man. Go with God, President Ford.
You shall be missed. - Reply to this comment
- I don't care if it is a president crossing a wobbly bridge or if it is a bum under the bridge, I say SPEAK UP! with a warning, if you think there is a problem, don't go whining around later when its too late.
In the long run, I think Old George is right in putting up the dukes with old Saddam.byebyebutcher. - Reply to this comment
- Ford stayed quiet for the same reason that GWB's own father is being pretty quiet right now...
Some people consider it poor form to call a sitting President 'moron.'
Even if that would be a charitable description. - Reply to this comment
- If Gerald R. Ford really thought the bridge was wobbly and there would be a splat, yet he just couldn't be bothered to get out the little red flag to warn his "friends" Cheney,Rumsfeld, and Bush, what does that say for his lack of strength and character?

- I'm not sure what recent event has had a deeper resonance on my political psyche than Gerald Ford's death has had. I would love to sit back and lambast the post-mortem observations we're being bombarded by these last few hours as showing some diabolicaly motivated, partisanally compromised subversion on President Ford's behalf, but let's face it...This gentleman may have been the last truly UNCOMPROMISED president of our times. There is no question that the handlers and influencers that have ultimately taken control of National politics, and the National Debate as a whole, did not have this genuine, straight speaking, idealogically innocent statesman under their thumb. He truly was still "One Of Us" when he mounted that podium and took over the role of governance of this troubled country. There were many dubious characters that served in the inner sanctum of power during his tenure, many of whom continued their affiliations well into the current regime. I'm willing to acknowledge some sort of willful ignorance on my behalf by not laying the thriving of these troublesome elements at President's Ford's door. It just has always appeared to me that the Republican Party oozes with compromised oppurtunity;the best minds that an incumbent can forward always reflect the deep rooted desires of the powers behind the Party. Regardless.... thank you, President Gerald Ford for your service to our country.

Some of us recognize that GWB & crew can accomplish harm that no external threat can ever do unaided from within. They use fear of the extremist Islamists to allow both open and surreptitious assaults on the Constitution, the glue that holds us together and protects us from would-be rulers. I see the potential danger to freedom around the globe from well-financed, tyrannical individuals who hate almost everyone who dares to disagree with them, people like GWB for example. He%u2019s certainly well-financed and his actions in the US are indicative of his tyrannical tendency. No external extremist can order unlawful surveillance of people in the US or paste together carefully selected intelligence, some of it already discredited to propel the Congress and the people to support his war. The Congressional leadership%u2019s abdication of their oversight function, choosing instead to overlook questionable conduct have raised questions of their complicity in this administration's crimes.
Before the wreckage of the twin towers had cooled, they began assaults on the Constitution and had the State Dept. planning for post-Saddam Iraq. With almost 18 months of planning, the plans could have been **** poor with some improvement. The planners shared a disdain for reality with their leaders who had become much bolder than they'd been during Vietnam. Any risk to other%u2019s lives and limbs was okay, but no risk to their safety was allowed. - Reply to this comment

Thanks for speaking up when you were alive against the war president Ford... I guess protecting your old cronies Cheney and Rumsfeld was more important... yes never go against the order old boy... Thanks for doing nothing.... - Reply to this comment
- It's doubtful that former President Ford was involved sufficiently to offer a reasoned and well informed opinion about GW Bush, or his decisions, but not surprisingly CBS news would likely agree with any anti-Bush commentary, it's part of their political agenda.
