- Jefferson deserves his trial. Regardless, re-electing him is no worse than re-electing Bush. Bush has scr*ewed this country up far more than Jefferson ever could. Your children and grandchildren will be paying for Bush's grandiouse mistakes for years to come.
So, janem, if you knew half as much about Bush's history as you think you know about corrupt democrats, you would know that:
- Bush was an alcoholic for the first 20 years of his adult life;
- He was "slapped on the wrist" by the SEC for insider trading where he made hundreds of thousands of dollars. Had his name been "Stewart" he would have gone to jail.
- Took money from investors and never turned a dime. Most people call this a scam!

- The device was in Mayor Street office because just about everyone connected to the mayor has been indicted and/or convicted for influence peddling in his administration. Even the mayor's brother was recently indicted for influence peddling concerning city contracts in Philadelphia. My point is if Congressman Jefferson or Mayor Street had been white they would have lost office for such scandals. But because these are black politicians, the black electorate in their respective areas vote for them as more of a slam at what they portray as the "white man" is out to get them.

- Thanks for the response, Kennedy19106 at 12:49 PM : Dec 10, 2006.
Your comment helps to illustrate my point.
It is no more justified to say that Jefferson is guilty because of $90.000 being found in his freezer than it would be to say that the FBI planted it there%u2026.
Or in the case of the %u201CJohn Street election incident with the FBI electronic bugging device you mentioned, one might ask%u2026 %u201CWhat was the bugging device doing there? - Reply to this comment
- "Why haven't they brought this guy to court?
Posted by Winstrv at 08:48 AM : Dec 10, 2006"
Ever thought that they DO NOT have anything of judicial worth on your 'guy'?
Making ALLEGATIONS IS NOT the same as making charges that stick in a court of law!
The ALLEGATIONS are just propaganda and fodder for the undereducated masses who don't have enough schooling to know the difference between an ALLEGATION and actual court-proven wrongdoing. - Reply to this comment

No the congressman has not be charged, tried or convicted YET! Typically any hint of scandal concerning a politician is basically the kiss of death for re-election. But it seems that in certain black communities in this country this sort of "Scarlet letter" is a badge of honor. Take for instance the city I live in (Philadelphia) the last election that John Street was in it was extremely close between he and is opponent down to the wire. But when a FBI electronic bugging device was discovered in his office, he rallied his base to make it seem like "the man" was after him. He won!
People should not vote for someone simply because they feel that the "white man" has out for all blacks. In reality we have black politicians who are corrupt, should they receive a pass on losing their elected position when they bring up the race card? - Reply to this comment
- To all posters here who have convicted Jefferson without trial, (a trials based on proven facts). Think of what you are saying. Would you truly circumvent our justice system based on heretofore-unproven facts?
I don%u2019t know if Jefferson is guilty or not%u2026 If I had to make a judgment right this minute, based only on what I have seen and heard I would have to say yes, but thanks to our constitution and justice system I don%u2019t have to do that yet. - Reply to this comment

Janem4, why are you so bitter, could it be that you are so disheartened by, and yet cannot accept the reality of, the obvious gross corruption within your own party that you must lash out at anyone or anything to try to gain some peace of mind?
It must be very depressing when you have to reach so far for something to use in you attacks%u2026 How many times have you used the names Studds or Clinton recently?
No matter how you feel about Jefferson, he is still innocent until proven guilty. His constituents have re-elected him and he will be their representative until and unless he is charged with and found guilty of wrongdoing%u2026. And until then the democrats could not remove him from office if they wanted to.
Don%u2019t you think the republicans would have done so in the last secession? After all, they were in complete control then - Reply to this comment
- This is a total embarrassment for the Democratic party. Funds for rebuilding post-Katrina Louisiana will need to be held up until a commission can be created to make sure that tax payer monies will be spent wisely and honestly. Being a lifelong Democrat my only hope is that Pelosi will relegate Jefferson to the lowliest of subcommittee life. He is NOT deserving of any leadership position on any committee. Jefferson will probably be indicted soon so a special election will need to be held and maybe integrity can be restored.

- It's not the Democratic party's fault he was elected marcodele! You are placing the blame in the wrong place! It's the people who voted him back into office who knew he was a crook! Your right on the fact it's a disgrace! That is why we won't have a good government until people stop voting creeps like him back into office! Until the voting public starts demanding more honesty from politican's! There doesn't seem to be much ethic's with the voting public these days! That's why we have a President who has committed every crime imaginable and not bothered to try and hide his corruption! We need to cleanse ourselves of the stain of a corrupt government! The only way that will ever be done is to demand honesty!

- This is an embarassment for the Democratic party and also the New Orleans region. Basically a majority of the voters have proclaimed "We're still ignorant and proud of it." He will be indicted and imprisoned, just like so many other Louisiana politicians have been after being supported by the same ignorant mindset. "Dollar Bill" is famous in the New Orleans region for enriching himself and his family on the taxpayers backs. He should enjoy this victory while he can because he's going to be cellmates with Edwin Edwards very soon, along with his two closest aides who have already pled guilty to bribery in the same scheme that resulted in $90,000 in unmarked bills in Jefferson's freezer.
The neocons don't need to rejoice over this unfortunate series of events: it is nothing compared to the death, destruction and deficits caused by their fraudulent oil emporer 'Junior.' - Reply to this comment
- I think the results of this election are nothing short of a shameful disgrace! I am seating here this morning and wondering which case is worse: the fact that this stupid (because he is corrupt)congressman was caught with dirty money in his freezer or the fact that despite this allegation the stupid (because they are just stupid) voters of New Orleans elected him again! It is a sad commentary in this country when black voters simply cast a ballot, so that in their opinion that the "Uncle Tom" candidate doesn't win! No wonder that New Orleans is so corrupt. The electorate would rather have a dirty congressman who toes the line in the black community, rather than a honest black politician who is willing to listen to "all" of his/her constituents (REGARDLESS OF RACE). No wonder Marion Barry keeps getting elected in Washington, DC. I have seen this happen time and again in this country to "good" moderate black candidates and the result of this election has just broken the camels back. I am sorry to say this, but black voters must start bringing back their moral fiber to the voting booth. Seeing Mr. Jefferson as a victim of the "white man" is absolutely disturbing. There is no way for him to explain his way out of this situation. Oh and before any black bloggers rake me over the coals for my comments. I am a black man, but a black man who can think for himself. I think that some of you angry black voters would probably call me an "Uncle Tom!"

- "The Democrats" outside Louisiana contributed heavily to Karen Carter's campaign. I'm one of them. Thinking liberals are as dismayed by this outcome as hard rock conservatives.
