We had to go into IRAQ,
they may not admit it,
they may have given another reason...

But we had too..

Saddam was giving money to terrorist that were attacking Israel...
he was giving money to those who lost children (suicide)
he was giving money to those who lost houses (Israel solution)
he was giving money...etc..and he was building to do more..

When you have a government doing that,
then need to be stopped.

I believe Bush and his gang took it too far
I believe Bush and his gang crossed the line..
All they had to do was close the borders
and let everything settle down..

The problem with Bush's Iraq was that he failed to define "success" when he invented reasons to invade Iraq. Without a clear definition of what success means, he is now caught without a withdrawal strategy. If US troops leave and with the situation as it is now, it is a disaster, and therefore a failure. If the troops stay, they are caught between sectarian violence and civil war. Hence, a failure. If more boots are put on the ground, the situation is aggravated because there is now more US troops for target practice by the insurgents. Again, failure. Meanwhile the song "should I go or should I stay" has become the number 1 song on the charts for politicians. If greed was not initially the motive and getting rid of Saddam was the objective, the boots would have been home when Saddam was disposed and SUCCESS! Bush and gang never had an exit plan because they never wanted to leave in the first place. It is like a building without fire escape exits, because there is not going to be a fire, or so Bush thought. Now that the fire is spreading real fast, he has no exits and knocks all over the place hoping he might find one. Sadly, there's none, at least not until a few more hundreds or thousands die. Success has to be defined with clarity. Bush does not know how to stop because he did not know where he was going in the first place. "Failure is not an option" is a slogan. Define "success" and then get out before US of A looses another war.

General McCaffery, says 7 billion a month is diverted from military's modernization for Iraq. Increasig the numbers of troops in Iraq substancially is out of the question, Attacking Iran is rediculous & will result in the world turning against us even more, losing our foothold in the Persian Gulf, & immediate attacks on our 400 mile supply line in Iraq by increased insurgency, & isolating our troops in Iraq.

Seems that women are treated poorly in Muslim countrys, compared to western countries. Second class citizens with little rights. How sad. Are all muslims places like this? Why do they tolerate it? I guess the punishment is so harsh nobody is brave enough to speak up consistently to affect change within. That's too bad. I'm glad I live in the US. Love my country, sometimes don't like it's current government.

Even though I'm a Dem and feel Bush lied to get into Iraq. I understand the desire and noble cause of spreading democracy. That's great, we should do what we reasonably and humanely can to help democratic institutions everywhere. But it's more than that. It sounds great, but to do it means death and heartache and destruction. It's a sorry cold business when you have to start killing and maiming and destroying. War must seem to most Americans something like a John Wayne movie, nice and clean and sterile and the US can do no wrong. But killing stinks and there's just got to be a better way in almost every case. It's pathetic man still does this, and if we, the US, the greatest nation ever, can't show the world the way to this kinder-smarter-lets-talk-dont-kill world, wow - man is small, our leaders don't deserve our support.

I appreciate your sincerity, but I disagree about our leaders and the Iraq war. I am an independent and supported what Bush was doing too long. If we had not gone into Iraq, we might have finished getting Bin Laudin. At that point our military would have looked invincible. We could have spent our time and money on creating peace in the middle east instead of creating a bogged down war that is getting out of control. The UN would have looked a lot worse because of the money they were pocketing during the embargo of Iraq, but instead, the world was so mad at us that hardly any attention was put on the UN leaders and policies. We missed a great PR moment because we wanted to kick out Saddam Hussein. We beat the Soviet Union with pressure and patience. We lost respect and a war because we invaded Iraq.

Who is considered a traitor in the Bush War?
I hope it's not somebody that...
1. Questioned authority
2. Expressed an honest opinion of dissent

These are the people I admire. The ones with the courage and strength to go against the grain.

I think Bush had it in for Iraq for whatever reason (pick your theory) and sold the war on what they knew was incomplete and weak evidence and flat out adjusted what they said to get the citizens worked up for war. I think what they did was criminal and so out-there, most Americans so stunned by it they can't even see it and get mad. Of course, we kicked the Iraqs quickly, we spend gigantic $$$ on our military, we should have won quick and we did. But what happended since is pathetic. So poorly led and planned for, it's shameful.

j-whitman sez.

"Our White House never served in the military".

Just for the record, FDR was never in the military but signed the largest draft in the history of our nation.

He was "apointed" Sec. of the Navy. that's it.

I'm a Dem by nature. I'm glad they took back some control in the political process, but I'm a realist too. I don't really expect a lot to change. Politics will likely go on as usual for the most part. I wish there was at least one more viable political party, but how would that improve the average citizens life not just of America but the world too. I'm pretty disillusioned by politics. I often muse it would be a better place to have a truely enlightened, benevolent dictator running things. Of course, I kid. Anyway, I hope the Dems can get this Iraq thing fixed with a good solid realistic plan (oh boy, I'm asking for it) and deal more with domestic issues for a while. Ther'e s alot of things this country needs to spend time and money on.

Liberal and proud of it. But I respect the rights of others as long as they respect mine.

I sense hesitation in putting Jesus in the left wing. That is good because I don't think He would be part of either. He is definitely not a Democrat or Republican because they are just after the money and power. They distort the truth all the time. You will never find God in distortions. You might find heathens, Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc. in distortions, but you won't find God there.

I didn't mention "cut and run" in the sense of being cowards. I meant that we caused the problem and now that it is a mess, we are going to run from our responsibilities and let the Iraq people pay the consequences. I agree with you that decisions should always be evaluated as we move through history.

j-whitman and peacethinker, it's always going to be extremism and fear that motivate people at the edges to do what they do, whether it's a suicide bomb or a carpet-bomb. Extreme idealogies are great motivators, but the actions are usually reprehensible.

Yeah, enough God talk, back to going Big, Long and Home. (Gawd that sounded rude!).

Peace,, I believe our far right religions combined with radical neo-con policies have everything to do with this war... It won't change untill these people understand Bush is just a man (a corrupt man) & God doesn't talk to him either.

Even though I'm not religious, I think Jesus was a good role-model. He was kind and forgiving and helped the needy as depicted. That's all fine and well. I'm all for those things. But those things were nothing new, it had all been said in other words or thoughts by others. It wasn't devine, it was just decent common sense. Ahh yikes, we're off on religion, guess it's time to head back for the topic, i.e. what to do in Iraq to finish this Bush-quest out as quickly and honorably as we can while doing as little harm as possible. Hmmmmm.
