I don't see the Murtha nomination as anything more than Pelosi paying back a political favor.. She owed Murtha... he was the architect who ran the campaign that got Pelosi started on the road to where she is now...
She certainly is intelligent enough to realize the votes weren't there for Murtha, but by throwing her weight behind him, she maintains his support... She is perfectly capable of working adequately with Hoyer also..
This (political favors) is how our system of politics has developed.. As I posted earlier, I am not a big fan of that particular part of our system.. although the "I'll vote for your bill if you vote for my bill" give and take is probably how much of the legislation does get passed..

The answer my freind is that the GOP is still has a majority and the Democrats won't be able to act on Operation Iraqi Freedom until they are sworn in January.

I hope this is not a preview of what conservative talk radio will focus on in 8 weeks when the Democrats are sworn in.

What happened to the "cut and run" sloguns used by the Bush adminstration to describe the Democrats in the election?

Now a conservative whines because the "cut and run" Democrats haven't acted on Iraq yet. I thought the conservative agenda was to "stay the course" in Iraq?

You know, reading through all these posts has me wondering what the hell is wrong with people. Has partisianship become so overwhelmingly powerful that no one cares amymore for the good of the common man or the good of the country. All this bitterness is bad for everyone. This is a democracy. The people voted in a legitimate election. Now let the party that was voted in legislate. The GOP was voted in and they had their turn. The majority of the American people were unhappy with what they were doing and wanted to try something different.

Why all this bitterness?? The dems have been in power for 8 days. Give them a chance to do something before condemning them. So far, there is no reason to be frothing at the mouth.

It is never late to learn. How could it be that Ms. Pelosi backed Murtha is a question that has no good answer, unless it is that when she was promising transparency, honesty, etc., she did not really mean it. Let us hope that she has learned. And if we want a real change for the good of this country, let us hope that she will have Hoyer's support in the future. Because Hoyer does not seem to need her support. What a stupid thing for Pelosi to support that other guy! What a bad start, Madam! Your credibility is on the line, Ms. Pelosi. And maybe your leadership, if there is any in you.

I see a lot of commenters here are getting exercised over the Murtha vs. Hoyer vote. Either the new Speaker was shot down by her own people or she was nuts for backing Murtha. Hey, the vote went to Hoyer by a substantial margin. That shows some independent action, not just blind obedience. Ok, it%u2019s over, let%u2019s move on people.

At least there was real discussion and a real vote. We didn%u2019t have the lockstep Republican reflex action to Delay%u2019s marching orders. Maybe the Republicans can show more independence of thought and action when it comes to legislation and voting. They moved in a Borg hive trace for the past 6 years. They, the Dems and the rest of us need to think and move and act like Americans first and Republicans or Democrats second.

Lets face it rsoxfan, most Americans are by a large moderate. Meaning they are just left of center or just right of center. Most neocons and SP's either have their own talk radio show, prime time FOX show, or become House Majority Leader (just a jab).
