- For years, many of us in southwestern Pennsylvania thought we knew Jack Murtha. He supported a strong national defense and voted in line with the conservative cultural values of our community.
But in his determination to gain more power for himself, he has cast those values aside. Now he apparently cares more about cultivating the respect and the votes of the liberal Democrats who make up the House Democratic caucus than he cares about cultivating the respect and the votes of those he was elected to represent right here in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Add to that his mounting woes on the ethics front -- designation by an independent, liberal congressional watchdog group as one of Congress's "most corrupt" Members, and a demand for a federal investigation to determine whether or not he broke the law by trading tens of millions of dollars in earmarked federal appropriations for hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions ...
And now, for the first time ever, the release of the 26-year-old, never-before-seen full FBI ABSCAM videotape of Jack Murtha meeting with undercover FBI agents ...
And you come to the inescapable conclusion: If you thought the Jack Murtha of 2006 was the same man you voted for in elections past ...
You don't know Jack. - Reply to this comment
- Murtha is probablly THE most unethical anti-American in the GOVERNMENT..... DO Democrats have ANY discernment?

- The Forgotten Murtha Scandal
By Rick Edwards 7 03:56 PM 7 October 24, 2006 7 Permalink
The Mark Foley scandal overshadowed another apparent scandal which was breaking on the same day:
The second scandal%u2014most likely still unknown to you, almost three weeks after it went public%u2014is the unveiling, for the first time ever, of the full 54-minute FBI Abscam surveillance video showing U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha (D.-Pa.) negotiating a $50,000 cash bribe from a man he believed to be an agent of a rich Arab sheik%u2014but who was in reality an undercover agent for the FBI.
The video, available at www.YouDon%u2019tKnowJack.org, proves that Jack Murtha has been lying for 26 years about his involvement in Abscam, the biggest congressional corruption scandal in history.

- Pee Wee Herman would be a more respectable person to hold this office. Murtha was almost kicked out of office for his "controversial" actions. Pelosi says she wants to make the most ethical congress in history....HA HA HA HAH HAHAH...what a joke. Is this a game to the democrats?? Is this whole war thng a big joke to them? Judging by the lunatics they choose to lead them it must be.

- And so the power struggle begins. You can't satisfy all the people all the time. I suggest the dems try very hard to get their acts together and go on to perform great acts of government for ALL the people. We voted for a change and that also means to stop the arrogrance, the megalomania, the damaging bipartisanship, the bs, and knock down the ivory towers.
Like never before, we will be watching every move and with the force of the internet will broadcast every wrong. Just do your jobs with the dignity your profession demands, nothing more, nothing less. - Reply to this comment
- It's not likely Bush would have so easily been led
by Cheney and his cronies into believing that war was the best way to deal with Iraq's dictator, if he'd been personally exposed to war. (His Dad had been, and didn't support his son.)
But that's done and behind us. Congress must not
be distracted from our urgent needs with lengthy investigations of how/why we got into Iraq --except for one aspect -- which also ties very
tightly to our energy crisis and economic ills.
Cheney makes one past VP (Spiro Agnew) look like a piker. Looking into how he set up huge profits for Halliburton can lead to stopping those life-threatening diversions of restoration funds. And exposure of his secret dealings with the energy industry magnates can lead to recovery of immense disruptions to our economy.
Bush erred by trusting Cheney, and by refusing to
acknowledge he'd made terrible choices, especially
relying upon Cheny & Rumsfeld, instead of Powell
and military leaders in the midst of it all. He
woke up to these realities a few weeks too late.
Now he'll share the consequences of his errors
with the Democrats, if they fail. Cooperating to ensure a bipartisan route out of this mess will help remove some tarnish from his legacy. - Reply to this comment
- Hopefully, the new regime recognizes a bipartisan
approach, of focussing on getting out of Iraq the
quickest and least disruptive way, is the nation's
top priority. We must all concede that process
will take much longer than we like. The strife
prevailing in the Mideast has been going on for
centuries, and our concept of democracy won't be
effective in curing radical religious fanaticism.
To properly build defenses against insurgencies
throughout the globe requires we unite and heal
ourselves, and restore respect for our leadership
and strengths, from all those dependent upon us.
For success, it's critical we rely upon military expertise; also magnify our Human Intelligence
assets worldwide. Our most effective leaders will
have personal military histories, and thus Murtha
can be effective -- as will John McCain -- who'd
best lead us through the next several rigorous
years.
Don't tie yourselves so tightly to either party!
Support our leaders on THEIR MERITS -- judge not,
party affiliations. Contemplate how we might
benefit from Lieberman being VP to Mc Cain ???!!! - Reply to this comment
