I agree that the UN is a corrupt mess. But pulling out is not the answer. If we did, it would become an organization totally out of control, with great ability to do us harm. At least while we are part of it, we have some measure of control.

With regard to Bolton, I think we could do better. His diplomatic skills are marginal.

"The U.N. is completely worthless, corrupt, and not worthy of this country's time and especially our money, without which the U.N. would cease to exist."

Is that why the US didn't pay it share yet ?

Bush couldn't even get Bolton accepted when we had a Republican congress - Bush had to give him a "recess appointment". What makes him think anyone has changed their minds?

I think that Kevin Federline should be the next U.N. ambassador. He has all the tools to succeed. It would surely increase Dubbyahs poll numbers in the "dumb ***" demographic....which probably comprises about 50% of the country according to the latest poll results.

K-FED FOR AMBASSADOR!!11

grazzinggoay-klukluxklan approach indeed, I didn't know senator byrd was up for the job. Now, other than this capable man, who by the way, looks out for us in that corrupt organization, whom would you want? Someone who will let us be steamrolled. The UN is a mess and the Oil for Food scandal never got the press it deserved.
pakaal-UN basher? Evidently you are a member of the America is awful and everything is our fault club. Just who would you like for the job?

Janem4, I%u2019m sure a lot of posters confuse you with other posters with similar ID%u2019s who are much more vitriolic. But aren't you being a bit disingenuous?

Insulting Sen byrd unnecessarily, pointedly insulting other posters, Pakaal and Grazinggoat, by using sarcastic remarks.
Using sarcasm is often as antagonistic and hurtful as actual name-calling.
Reminds me of what a cousin of mine used to do.
He would never use actual cures words, instead he would use words or phrases like, dad burn it, I-golly, gol durn it, and I-gory. One day he chastised me for actually cursing. I really hurt his feelings when I said, %u201CJoe, you curse too, you just spell it differently%u201D.

janem4:

"wontontiger, jh6379 & mcdazz-Yep, when someone insults me because of something I posted then I answer in kind. So, yes, it is about me when someone insults me, ok...As far as taking you to task, well, that means if you post something that I, as a republican, have an issue with (like name calling) or a different view, yep, that's what I'll do...Don't read them, ignore and don't address them or complain to CBS and see if I, and others like me, can get thrown off the site."

I don't think anyone was arguing against your point of view (at least I wasn't).

I think everyone has something to add - regardless of whether I agree with it or not.

I can honestly say that I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican supporter - I will however, criticize policies from both sides when I do not agree with them nor support them.

If I see a party who's policies are aimed at destroying America, the Constitution or sending young men and women off to a needless and senseless war, I will take issue with them - Republican or Democrat.

And yes, your comment "Love the name calling and insults. I see the tolerant left wing is alive and well...Now, let's get some good insults going, shall we.", was hypocritical, because you specifically mentioned only the left wing as being name callers - especially so when Republicans indulge in name calling to the same degree.

Forget the politics - look at the policies and give the new House and Senate a chance before having a go at them.

The election is over and now the hard work begins.Face with enemies from the outside and from the inside although of a different nature. There are many issues we as citizens can demand here is a partial list.Tax overhaul that no longer favors corporations for foreign investment and allows them to avoid taxation, campaign finace reform that becomes publicly finaced and limits individuals to $500 contributions these includes candiates,it also prohibits corporation, lobbyist and your non entity groups from contributing.Engaging the world to confront the problems that face all of us (terrorism)and nuclear proliferation.Raising the mininium wage, health care for all citizens but not a goverment run program, one with govermental oversight.Eliminating the need for illegal aliens by addressing the treaties and tax provisions that spar it.Acountability in public office and term limits.Revocation of benefits to elected officails found guilty of corruption or sexual scandals. No more white collar prisons. This is a partial list of problems that face America. They need to be addressed and all intelligent proposals are welcome.A consensus should be formed of the proposals with petitions signed and submitted to the congress.Add to the list or critic it but let us be civil. The UN is a valuable world body that has its faults and it needs to be addressed equally.

Forget Bolton

The United States needs to get out of the U.N. and the U.N. should set up shop somewhere other than the U.S.A.

The U.N. is completely worthless, corrupt, and not worthy of this country's time and especially our money, without which the U.N. would cease to exist.
