clestes, if the rift between the haves and the have nots getts any bigger there will be. Govt is not responding to the will of the people. And if the people feel they can't change the govt, we're going to have big problems.

Hermann Goering wtote: "But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. ... voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." ========
ReichsMarschall Hermann Goering, (the Nuremberg Diary) one of the highest-ranking Nazis who survived to be captured and put on trial for war crimes.=======

Terrific post getcentered!

meboard I doubt there will be riots in the streets, possible but I don't think so.

More likely a mood of extreme cynicism will descend on us, espcially if impeachment proceeding get started and all the dirtiest laundry gets aired. Everybody who is anybody in politics who had anything to do with starting this mess, will run for cover and deny all but will get voted out in 2008 anyway.

Then we will start with a mostly new or only 2 year old govn and begin to fix this mess this boozos in power now have left.

Having a timetable means defeat. NOT having a timetable means defeat. When is GW going to learn that you can't invade a country and not have a plan to deal with the aftermath of that invasion?
Maybe he'll learn after we invade Iran or North Korea? Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Ok folks, step right up and be prepared for pure ambrosia. What we have here is the most mouthwatering, delightful and refreshing drink to have ever been savored by man or woman. Am I talking about vintage champagne? Absolutely not! The world%u2019s finest champagne is rotten swill compared to what waits for you in these glasses. This miraculous drink will tantalize your taste buds and make you a true believer. It will ease your mind and erase all doubt.

%u201CWhere does this fabled elixir come from?%u201D you may ask. I%u2019ll tell you right now. It softly bubbles up sweet and clear from a small hidden spring in the foundation of a secluded basement corner of the White House just under the Oval office. We take the liquid and with scientific precision and loving care evaporate the water from the liquid and leave behind the sparkling jewel crystals of the liquid%u2019s active ingredients. We can take that powder and flavor any water at hand to make this wonderful drink. We call it Neocon Koolaid.

Here. Have some. Ahh! Good! You%u2019re one of US now. Now repeat after me.

"Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay The course"

Good. Very good.

cbscrash07; funny how the administration hasn't used those tapes, which date from the mid-90's, to retroactively justify the invasion. It makes you think that either a) Bush is a terrorist sympathizer or that b) there must be something wrong with them (ie. they're either fake or don't prove a thing).

Hard to believe that FrontPage Magazine or the Weekly Standard could get something wrong.

This war in Iraq is EXACTLY what the experts (the CIA, Pentagon) said it was going to be.

Fools rush in and that is what we did going into Iraq, so calling the people wanting this war stupid or arrogant fits the bill just fine.

GW Bush has nothing to do with the way the military is going to employ tactics.

The military commanders do not want unnecessary deaths, but right now, they are on the ground in Iraq, by order of the President. People are dying all around our troops and they cannot do much about it. They do not know why they are there, or why the people in Iraq started killing each other.

If the experts said it would be this way, why did we not take the time to create a better plan? I think I know part of the reasons: "politics". The party wanting this war needed it to BEGIN quickly or it might never come to pass.

How unfortunate for our brothers and sisters in the military that they can be wasted along side of Iraqi people without a known, true and just cause.

I would rather have a Democrat wasting a billion on helping the poor or disabled or uneducated, than have a neo-con Republican blow a billion on killing tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi and thousands of US service men and women.

To hell with anything closely resembles a Republican. They are not prepared to govern a world power.

If you only knew what Saddam thought of us and what he would have liked to do to us. There is a tape (seized from Iraq after the invasion)where Saddam is talking to (i forget who) but the guy is telling Saddam look we can hit them (US) all we have to do is use trucks and pack them full of explosives. Saddam stops the man and tells him we will let the others do it.

It is clear that repubs will say anything at this point to get elected. They are scared. They should be. Bush has squandered the lives and limbs of far too many American youth in an ill conceived, unplanned, optional war. No overwhelming force, No exit strategy, lots of nation building. Things the repubs always barked about when they were the minority and democrats were trying to justify military force.
Now a civil war has broken out along predictable, ancient sectarian lines because of Bush's inept planning. 800 million or so in funds missing. Three hours of electricity a day in Baghdad. Iraq is now costing $1600.00 A SECOND! Bush is paying to train and equip the militias that our troops then have to fight against in Sadr city! This is a disaster of incredible proportions. Unlike Katrina this one is the fault of two or three men. They sold the American people a bill of goods while the people were still shook from 9/11. They misled us down this path for their own unknown reasons. The reasons they gave the people changed constantly and turned out to be lies or mistakes of insufficient diligence or caution. Their hubris and pride led to their fall as it always does. Now "all the king's horses and all the king's men" cannot put it back together again. We the people will have to figure that one out. Starting 11/7.

God Bless our Troops
God Forgive George Bush

Like Dubya I too am not satisfied. I am not satisfied with not knowing why we are at war with Iraq. Nor am I satsfied that many young Americans have lost their lives in Iraq. Or, that many innocent Iraqi's men, women, and children, have also died. I'm not satisfied with the military leadership that seems not to have a viable plan to finsih this war.I am not saisfied with the way Dubya and cronies have managed this horrific problem, brought on by them. I am not satisfied with the politicians in Washington who do not have a stronger voice in this matter and are ineffectual to accomplish anything in our favor.
Yeah, Dubya, like you, I am also dissatisfied.

If the president, his vice president or the neo-con spin misters had to serve in combat they would never have considered putting us in Iraq in the first place. If their children (sons and daughters) were registered for the draft, or serving in the military, they would not be so fast to send them to a mismanaged and bungled military enterprise under a bunch of military yes men. They dishonor America an those of us who have served, lost family and friends, and who%u2019s sons and daughters now serve. These People running this war I would not trust to make me coffee. Cut and Run is honorable compared to Send and Not Serve, Stay and be Stupid, Chide and be a Chicken Hawk, or Preach values and be a Pedophile. We American People are about to Suspend all these Criminals on November 8. This insanity is almost over. Soon we will start the road to recovery once we vote these criminals out of office. They will leave office the only question is how, by their own vehicle, or Tarred and Feathered and Riding a Rail!

Iraqi Baker Commission note, Please remember that James Baker represented/defended the Saudi Government against the Law Suit filed by the Survivors and family members of the 9/11 attack. So do not expect anything of substance or in the Best Interest of America coming out of the Iraqi Baker Commission as chartered by President Bush.
