President Says U.S. Withdrawal From Iraq Would Give Victory To Enemies
- George W Bush's father supported Hitler in the 30's? Um, in 1939 he was 15 years old.
As for Prescott Bush, The Anti-Defamation League has stated, "Rumors about the alleged Nazi ties of the late Prescott Bush, the grandfather of President George W. Bush, have circulated widely through the Internet in recent years. These charges are untenable and politically motivated."
Did I mention that George H. W. Bush was 15 years old in 1939? - Reply to this comment

- Very interesting analogy in light of the fact that grandfather Prescott, and father George Sr, both had strong ties and ownership/dealings with Hitler and the Nazi's prior to 1942 or 1943. George Sr in fact, was strongly urged by congress at the time to divest his (lucrative) holdings with Nazi Germany, or lose his legilature position, and forfeit any further political desires.

- Interesting analogy, since grandfather,Prescott Bush, and George W's father, the former president, were both involved in supporting the Nazi's and Hitler during the 30's and up to our declaration of war when former president Bush, then a congressman was strongly urged to break all ties and investments with Nazi Germany.

- Bush and Rumsfeld have been busy comparing the Iraq war to WWII and coming close to saying that anyone who doesn't agree with them is comparable to a Nazis supporter. If we are going to talk about history, what about what happened in 1979 to another "superpower" called the Soviet Union and its "adventure" in another Islamic country called Afganistan! The red army was in the country for 10 years and had to leave with its tail between its legs. The war there bankrupted the USSR, caused tens of thousands of casulaties, and caused the fall of the communist government in the USSR. What about that history GWB, DC, and Herr Rumsfeld???

- Despite what the Bush Administration would have people believe, WW 2 & the war in Iraq have almost no similarities. The U.S. did not declare war against Japan or attack them until they first attacked & declared war against us. The U.S. did not declare war or attack Germany or Italy until they first declared war against us. In regard to WW 2, FDR & his Administration had no choice but to call the nation to arms in response to declarations of war by Axis nations. Unlike the current Administration, FDR really did follow the rule of war as a last resort. Before the U.S. attacked & invaded Iraq, the Iraqi government had made no threats of substance, military or otherwise, against the U.S. & had no military designs against the U.S. GW himself has admitted that Iraq played no role in the attacks against the U.S. on 9/11. The reasons for these 2 wars could not be more dissimilar & it is extremely deceitful for the Bush Administration to try to make it appear as if the reasons are similar.

- Ah, as far as your Napoleon reference, that would be wrong. The French occupied Prussia from 1806-1813, Napoleon put his brother on the Spanish throne in 1808 and he held power until 1813 and his other various relatives ruled in the Netherlands, parts of Italy and many of ther German states were formed into the Confederation of the Rhine in 1806 which Napoleon controlled until 1814. The ruling House of Bourbon did not return to Spain until 1813, the kingdom of the Two Sicilies until 1814 and the French army of occupation remained in Prussia until driven out in 1813. The House of Orange was restored in the Netherlands in 1814 after eight years of control by Napoleon's brother who had been installed as king.

- Ok, if you want to have a way to win this war in Iraq, take your lessons from the past. Both Alexander and Napoleon took over countries. But the lesson that Bush apparently did not learn from history is that they only occupied the countries for a short time (longest was about a year and a half) after which they gave the country back to whomever ruled it in exchange for an oath of fealty.
