Barack Obama should invest federal money in tactics and technology. Kabul must take the lead in this offensive. Intelligence is more important than patrol. NATO follows a routine and the Enemy uses the element of surprise. A direct attack from Afghani Troops is a better choice. Sophisticated weapons and technical equipment will result in rebel casualties.

Seriously, Learn from the Viet Nam War, Pullout and let them have their country back to ruin or succeed. Viet Nam turned out OK. 63000 dead from that fiasco!

I think you mean 63000 AMERICAN dead. The actual total is about 2 million. Why do Americans always forget about the other side? They didn't even try to count the Iraqi dead!
by tautomer July 6, 2009 5:21 PM EDT
Americans don't forget the 2 million, Democrats do because it was John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson's war along with the Democrat Congresses of the day. Democrats similarly gave us, WW1 (wilson), ww2 (roosevelt), korea (truman), vietnam (kennedy, johnson)..... now Obama continues the legacy by expanding AfPakistan.

The dead from Democrat Wars stretch to well over 75 MILLION! Thn Democrats complain about 4000 casualties!! LMAO

TNisgoodenoughforme-Your son is there because he wants to be there. He chose to be a Marine for reasons most will never understand and if he tried to explain, most would call him names and question his sanity. Men and Women like your son have been going off to Wars around the World since this Nation was founded so that others may never have to see, feel or experience the pain, suffering and misery they will endure. Our Nation is filled to the brim with ungrateful name calling cowards who would belittle your son and you for giving him birth. I thank you and I thank your son and to hell with the rest. (Drug money fuels the militant Islamic war machine that will, if given the chance, strike American families again).

Your are correct Yes my son did choose to be a US Marine & I am very proud of him. I just want to know why we are there, thats all. What is the reason? Is it a war on drugs kinda of thing? As for my son, he does not question why & just does as he is ordered & trained. I do not ask nor question what he does, I feel like as a mom my job is to support him in any way I can & questioning his reasons or the preseidents isn't going to help him. He has a job & thats is to protect & serve. Again I will say its me the mom who doesn't understand 100%. When I heard one news channel only speak of the drug issue I was a little confused. I thought that was only a part of the reason.
God Bless out Troops

Your post is an insult not only to our military, but to all our fellow Americans! PROVE your statements about my fellow Americans!!

I have yet to see anyone on these message boards or in any news item, nor in any gatherings...never have I ever heard or read about anyone calling our brave military sons and daughters any derogatory names whatsoever!!!

Such hate has blinded your eyes, and clouded your mind as to the truth!

TNisgoodenoughforme....surely you know that WE THE PEOPLE cherish all of our military members! A person can be against the reasons for invading a country...yet still support our people in uniform doing all that they are asked to do for our country....10000 times over!

Last I looked....Osama bin Laden is still on the loose. Remember him? Supposedly the source and support money behind the attacks in our country on 9/11? In addition, promises were made by Bush to the people of Afghanistan, promises that were never kept.

I'll keep your son in my good thoughts, as well as all of our young men and women in uniform. Please rest assured, Marine Mom, that the rest of our fellow Americans feel the same way. I don't know where this hateful poster lives, but I wonder if he is actually an American.

Peace! God Bless Our Troops, Marine Mom!

Sloughfoot, I am the first to admit when I am wrong. I owe you an apology. I questioned your statement regarding "ungrateful name calling cowards who would belittle your son." Tonight, on this message board, for the first time ever, I am seeing comments that I never expected to see again....at least derogatory statements against our military that were all to common during the Vietnam War.

I still disagree with you that our Nation is filled to the brim with ungrateful name calling cowards....but you no longer have to prove to me that there are some American citizens who certainly meet your description. Unfortunately.

Because Obama won his election on not continuing the same old "failed policies of the Bush Administration".....So he is coming up with his own failed policies.

No one has conquered Afghanistan since Alexander the Great! A community organizer from Chicago will fail too

I love our Troops, my son is a Marine & I support the troops. But. Why are we there? Is it the Taliban or poppy? One news channel this weekend only brought up the poppys over there for a reason to fight. Is this a war on drugs? Again I love our Troops, but they do what they are commanded to do. Why is Obama doing this?

Here in the UK no politician is answering that question sensibly either. I'm losing count, but I think 8 UK soldiers have died there in the last week. Our government doesn't tell us how many were seriously wounded, but it has to be at least 20.

Is it simply because our politicians can't admit that they were wrong to start this war? Everyone now knows that invading Iraq was morally wrong (and also a failure), but I think they simply can't admit that exactly the same is true of Afghanistan.
by hower4 July 6, 2009 2:53 PM EDT
The Soviet Union was the most recent to fail in Afghanistan, with about 15,000 dead and an amazing 450,000 wounded or sick. Apparently most of these were a result of hepatitis and typhoid. Of the American soldiers who manage to return alive, you can expect tens of thousands to return permanently crippled with disease as well as with severe wounds.

AFGHANISTAN HAS NOT BEEN CONQUERED IN OVER 2000 YEARS! WHY DOES AMERICA THINK IT CAN?
by ibsteve2u July 6, 2009 4:31 PM EDT
lolll...no doubt "the poppy" plays a significant role. There are many people with a vested interest in seeing "the war on drugs" prolonged, and the fact that some serious percentage of the massive profits that the aforementioned war on drugs enables goes to support terrorism no doubt plays a role.

The "war on drugs" is a snake eating its own tail...

Yes it was to save the heroin business, plus try and stabilize the area so the oil pipeline could be completed. Only the very stupidest of the stupid believe it was to fight a war on terror. A group of terror dudes lead by CIA operative Osama Bin Laden was NO threat to the western world.

I say you are an Obamabot...No mother of a marine would write such dribble.

Unfortunately your son proved to be too stupid to make rational decision and decided to become a tool in the hands of neocon crusaders. Hope your other children are better than this rotten apple

Do we have Taliban in our midst? Surely no American would spout such drivel! We have Free Speech in our country, Sir/Madam. However, you are lucky to be a coward who can hide behind your keyboard!
