Jwhitman- we are supposed to be Nation Builders, but we haven''t been lately... have we?
What you are saying sounds perfectly logical..however days, weeks, months, years of battling rockets, suicide bombers, security checks, kidnappings can take a toll on a nation.
Meanwhile their government are trying to make a peace agreement where the first condition is halt to all attacks and hamas just continues

Israel does not always act like they want peace. I wish they would. Sometimes they are at the mercy of their own brand of extremism just look over the last ten years, how it goes from one prime minister to the next. How they change sometimes. Peace in the world would be the most wonderful occurance. I would love to see it in my time. I don''t think I will but I can always hope.

J-Whitman You are right. The Palestinians should have a homeland. We should support democracy as often as we can, whenever we can. Posted by lindaredtail

I''m glad we all 3 agree on that one....
now convince a brainwashed society and fanatic

factsearcher,,, How is it not in our national intrest ??? Aren''t we the Nation Builders ??

America needs it''s credibility back, showing unbiased support for Palestine would be a good starter, & demanding Israel stop with the settlements, open up their highways so people can get access to human needs whould be a beginning

Just as an addition. What angers other countries about our support for Israel is the double-standard. The intelligence about them having nuclear weapons is very strong. We want Iran, North Korea, and other nations inspected by the IEA. Yet when the subject of Israel being inspected comes up before the UN Security Counsel we have consistantly used our veto power to stop it. Why? Posted by lindaredtail

Because Israel wants democracy and peace like us, Great Britain.. similar qualities

The war is not over...so how can it be a failure?...The only way it will be a failure is if all the whiners out there get their way...and pack up their marbles...and go home....This is all about ''resolve'' America. (that''s how we won WW2)...something I fear most fat and lazy Americans know nothing about.

In my opinion, we are bound to support any nation including a Palestinian governed state in the persuit of our national intrests & encouraging democracies. -- Not just Israel Posted by j-whitman

Absolutely! Now the operative word you said was: our national interests...
That is why we don''t support palestinians

MORE CONSERVATIVE FAILURE:

The war in Iraq has become "a major debacle" and the outcome "is in doubt" despite improvements in security from the buildup in U.S. forces, according to a study published Thursday by the Pentagon''s military educational institute.

The report, released by the National Defense University, raises fresh doubts about President George W. Bush''s projections of a U.S. victory in Iraq just a week after Bush announced that he was suspending U.S. troop reductions.

The report carries considerable weight, McClatchy said, because it was written by Joseph Collins, a former senior Pentagon official, and was based in part on interviews with other former senior defense and intelligence officials who played roles in prewar preparations.

It was published by the university''s National Institute for Strategic Studies, a Defense Department research center.

I don''t disagree with factsearcher. We are bound to Israel. One being that we gave them a nuclear weapon after WWII to use in their last defense. Numerous intelligence sources support that. They have also created several of their own. It is believed that they have possibly five or six from what I read. No one is certain. We are bound to them now because we are partly responsible for what they do with that technology. It is also true that Jewish people are the most persecuted in the world. All of this situation is difficult. The Palestinians who were displaced after 700 years of occupancy until 1948 (which isn''t so long ago) also deserve a place to call home. It must have been terrible to have your land taken from you like that.

hungry1968...On 9/11 these ideological struggles came to "our" country and killed 3,000 of our people...That''s why we are in Afghanistan. If they didn''t attack us...we wouldn''t be there...period.

If you take religion fanatism out of the equation and thoroughly analyze the situation....
Politicaly, economicaly and militay wise we are bound with Israel as allies.
Allies because they helped us in the cold war.
Allies because they are partners in counterterrorism
Allies because they are an asset military wise...weapons, intelligence (their intelligence is desired globally)
Allies because we are also partners in the pursue of new technology (actually they surpassed us)
And again if you take the religion fanatism out... they are our allies as Great Britain is our ally... but better
